During a minimal invasive neurosurgery it is necessary to know precisely the 3D position of the surgical instruments and their relationship and interaction with the anatomy of the human brain. Today, on developing countries many surgeons still operate without 3D visual aids, managing instruments in the blind. With this idea we developed a new technique of Computer Assisted Surgery (CAS). We developed a new neuronavigator called Neuropanacea. It consists of our image processing software, the electromagnetic tracker for the localization of each one of the surgical instruments in the surgical room, and a personal computer (PC). The procedure for registration of these points captured using an electromagnetic tracker with the 3D space coordinates of the volume might be too complex. The main problem consists on finding the geometrical homogeneous transform to apply it to the acquired points with the electromagnetic tracker, and the registration of the fiducial markers visualized on the 3D volume. If we have the sorted correspondence of each one of the points in both systems, it is always possible to find a homogeneous transform into another system. However, in most of these cases we do not have this orderly set. One method to solve this problem is the iterative closest point (ICP). This work refers to the original algorithm of ICP. From this implementation we proposed two improvements for its correct convergence. The mean square error using the original algorithm was reduced from 2.1 ± 0.5 mm, to less than 0.5 mm. © 2010 ieee.

We design and implement a web-based open laboratory information management platform called WOLIMP which is an integrated portal and enables users to better understand the open laboratory’s comprehensive overview,research projects and results. WOLIMP provides an effective news management,application and review issues,laboratory document management,dynamic catalog management,and user-access control management as well. WOLIMP offers a comprehensive overview of the research projects and results of laboratory. Users are able to create personal space which is autonomously managed. They are also allowed to express their options and show their academic views on academic research. By using OOAD,we design the whole system and complete UML diagrams. Finally we implement the system using J2EE and SQL Server 2005. It achieves functions such as releasing laboratory arrangements,dissemination and application information of open issues,and the display of the results. The system has a friendly interface and improves the management level of open laboratory.

Current system security strategies are failing and cannot be fixed by security engineers alone. The reason for failure is evident: the attack community operates as an intelligent, multi-agent, self organizing, system-of-systems - with swarm intelligence, tight learning loops, fast evolution, and dedicated intent. Next generation security must engage in true co-evolution, engaging in this arms race with systemic self-organization that leverages community and other forms of multiagent architectures at least equally agile to the adversary in six observed common characteristics: self organization, adaptable tactics, reactive resilience, evolvable strategies, proactive innovation, and harmonious operations. These concepts cannot be effectively employed by security engineers on sufficient scale without first being enabled by system engineers working at the architectural level. But even then, without appreciation and concurrence by decision makers, self-organizing strategies will fail to gain sufficient deployment. The principal impediment to developing and fielding these strategies is not lack of know-how, but rather lack of a common language and vision that can remove the decision-maker distrust of self organization and unite system engineers and security engineers in architecturally synergistic solutions. This article reports on a cross-discipline pattern project that is discovering and cataloging patterns of self-organizing system-of-systems security. Pattern cataloging projects generally collect best practice history within a single domain. This cross-domain project is necessarily looking into many domains to find recurrent patterns across ecological systems, biological systems, social systems, network systems, enterprise systems, multi-agent systems, ad-hoc networks, unmanned autonomous systems, and others. This paper reports the findings of an empirical investigation into developing and managing an embedded system project in the context of structured process management. This research adopts an interpretive case study approach and explores project managers' and developers' experiences in embedded system development within a turbulent environment. The study describes the complex undertaking of managing embedded system development, which, in this case, involved improvisational and bricolage practices. It analyses the various influences on the management of an embedded system development project in this setting, along with the organizational responses to such influences. The paper indicates that improvisation and bricolage might be possible tactics for coping with challenges, and lead to a smooth transition of organizational processes. In this case setting, best practices and principles became informal rules and standards, both of which enabled the project manager to cope with difficulties throughout the project. © 2009 ieee.

Aimed at the deficiency of research and development in management information system for dam safety monitoring (DSMMIS) at home and abroad, considering the developing demand of dam safety monitoring and management, DSMMIS based on B/S (Browser/Server) have been researched. Based on B/S, the system is designed and realized by adopting ***(C#) technique and SQL server 2005 database, mainly including drafting of the development goal, selection of the development environment, design of the overall structure and system function, and realization of program, etc. The system, with friendly interface, convenient utility and high reliability, has been used successfully in many dam safety monitoring projects such as BiKou, showing good operation condition, being capable of managing all kinds of dam safety monitoring information promptly, accurately and conveniently, monitoring the safe operation of the dam timely. ©2009 ieee.

One of the most significant complexities of managing concurrent engineering (CE) projects is the identification and mitigation of project risks. The challenges that project managers encounter are compounded by constantly evolving business requirements and the large volumes of data involved in such projects. In this research, rapid prototyping techniques were used to accelerate the process of developing prototypes of a web-based risk management system to address such challenges. Based on the concept of Model-Driven Architecture (MDA), InfoMAP (Information Modeling and Application Prototyping) was developed as an Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF)-based Rich Client Platform (RCP) application to encapsulate relationships between information and system components. In particular, relationships and properties of risk types were parameterized to facilitate quantitative and qualitative refinements. InfoMAP models are made up of maps, which consist of alternating actions and entities (Zhou, 1996). The risk management system used these models to generate data structures and template-based user interfaces at run-time. There are four main models in the system: context establishment, risk identification, risk analysis, and risk monitoring. The context establishment model helps users to identify systemic problems and adopt consistent mitigation strategies through the use of shared risk profiles and management priorities. Based on this contextual information, the risk identification model provides a structured process that guides users in responding to questions that are used to determine the level of risks in projects. Using the inputs to the previous two models, the risk analysis model is used to generate suggested risk likelihood and consequence values based on historical data from previous projects. This paper describes a research project that investigated the feasibility of using contextual reasoning to supervise the collaborative work of knowledge workers. In complex projects that require contributions from various experts but whose interaction may be limited to a web-based collaborative tool, proper management of the project is essential to ensure that the project objectives are met. This is typically the job of a project manager. We assert that having situational awareness is likewise essential to managing a project, and we utilize Context-based Reasoning (CxBR) as the tool of choice for implementing situational awareness in an agent that assists project managers. We use rocket design and manufacture as the domain to evaluate our approach. We make use of public domain rocket design software developed by NASA as a guide to the domain. The paper describes the investigation and the related works involved in collaborative design project, as embodied by designing and building a small rocket.

This paper mainly focused on exploring the intelligent living-space issues of daily life especially when mankind steps into 21st century leading by concept of 3C Since Japan and Korea have invest a lot of resource in researching and developing digitalizing living-space man v years, those strategies really upgraded the competition potential of country,v economy and created man v related brand-new industries for 3C Taiwan now positively touches into this category of manufacturing industry by initiating from Far-eastern Constructing Co. Ltd, which proposed "Digitalized Community" and began the research category of the intelligent living-space. In this paper, an intelligent living-space based on blue-tooth system was practically designed and implemented in a living room, which was supported by the Taiwan Education Ministry under "projects of Improving Teaching Superiority Taiwan colleges", and the whole system was finally proved to be successful with its steady functions. The related techniques developed included software developing of blue-tooth modules, hardware design of interface transition between blue-tooth and RS-232, decoding of message pack-age, pairs matching, and communication mode switching in multi-modules. The study purposes of the system are : 1. To study the related techniques of blue-tooth modules and its communication mechanism implemented in an intelligent living-space, 2. To research and develop a remote control system or monitoring system with the blue-tooth communication system. 3. To develop the interface between blue-tooth module and RS232 mounted on any microprocessor or PC.

In this paper we address the issue of monitoring students' and groups' activity in online collaborative learning environments. This issue is especially important in the collaborative e-learning context, since an efficient monitoring process can provide valuable information to online instructors who may guide and support the development of collaborative learning projects. We have developed and tested an information system model which facilitates the automatic generation of weekly monitoring reports derived from data contained in server log files. These reports provide online instructors with visual information regarding students' and groups' activity, thus allowing for a quick and easy classification of students and groups according to their activity level. Therefore, entities with a low activity level are identified as soon as possible and just-in-time assistance can be established for them. Furthermore, instructors can use these monitoring reports to forecast potential problems-such as students' dropouts or possible conflicts inside the groups due to unbalanced distribution of tasks- and take operational and tactical decisions oriented to avoid them.
