With the rapid development of information technology, people have put forward higher requirements for the audio-visual experience and usage functions of conference spaces. The traditional, single-function conference room configuration can no longer adapt to the diverse needs of modern work and interactive activities. How to achieve efficient management and control, seamless interconnection, and resource sharing of audio systems across spaces, while ensuring the acoustic characteristics and flexibility of each independent space, has become a core issue that needs to be urgently resolved in building a multi-hall, multi-functional conference room cluster. Based on the audio system project of the Academic Center of the Communication University of China, this paper proposes a solution for a conference room cluster audio system based on a distributed architecture. This solution not only overcomes the limitations of traditional systems in terms of scalability, collaborative work, and resource scheduling but also promotes lossless transmission, real-time processing, and adaptive configuration of audio signals. Thus, it ensures the consistency and high quality of the audio experience within the entire cluster, providing practical guidance for the design and optimization of future conference room audio systems.

Detecting and handling network partitions is a fundamental requirement of distributed systems. Although existing partition detection methods in arbitrary graphs tolerate unreliable networks, they either assume that all nodes are correct or that a limited number of nodes might crash. In particular, Byzantine behaviors are out of the scope of these algorithms despite Byzantine fault tolerance being an active research topic for important problems such as consensus. Moreover, Byzantine-tolerant protocols, such as broadcast or consensus, always rely on the assumption of connected networks. This paper addresses the problem of detecting partition in Byzantine networks (without connectivity assumption). We present a novel algorithm, which we call NECTAR, that safely detects partitioned and possibly partitionable networks and prove its correctness. NECTAR allows all correct nodes to detect whether a network could suffer from Byzantine nodes. We evaluate NECTAR's performance and compare it to two existing baselines using up to 100 nodes running real code, on various realistic topologies. Our results confirm that NECTAR maintains a 100% accuracy while the accuracy of the various existing baselines decreases by at least 40% as soon as one participant is Byzantine. Although NECTAR's network cost increases with the number of nodes and decreases with the network's diameter, it does not go above around 500KB in the worst cases.

Intermediate representations (IRs) are fundamental to classical and quantum computing, bridging high-level quantum programming languages and the hardware-specific instructions required for execution. This paper reviews the development of quantum IRs, focusing on their evolution and the need for abstraction layers that facilitate portability and optimization. Monolithic quantum IRs, such as QIR (Lubinski et al. in Front Phys 10:940293, 2022. https://***/10.3389/fphy.2022.940293), QSSA (Peduri et al. in Proceedings of the 31st ACM SIGPLAN international conference on compiler construction. CC 2022. Association for computing Machinery, New York, 2022), or Q-MLIR (McCaskey and Nguyen in Proceedings-2021 ieee international conference on Quantum computing and Engineering, QCE, 2021), their effectiveness in handling abstractions, and their hybrid support between quantum-classical operations are evaluated. However, a key limitation is their inability to address qubit locality, an essential feature for distributed quantum computing (DQC). To overcome this, InQuIR (Nishio and Wakizaka in InQuIR: Intermediate Representation for Interconnected Quantum Computers, 2023. https://***/abs/2302.00267) was introduced as an IR specifically designed for distributed systems, providing explicit control over qubit locality and inter-node communication. While effective in managing qubit distribution, InQuIR's dependence on manual manipulation of communication protocols increases complexity for developers. NetQIR (V & aacute;zquez-P & eacute;rez et al. in NetQIR: An Extension of QIR for distributed Quantum computing, 2024. https://***/abs/2408.03712), an extension of QIR for DQC, emerges as a solution to achieve the abstraction of quantum communications protocols. This review emphasizes the need for further advancements in IRs for distributed quantum systems, which will play a crucial role in the scalability and usability of future quantum networks.

In modern post-disaster rescue missions, the deployment of Multi-Robot systems (MRSs) plays a key role in minimizing injuries and deaths among rescue personnel and civilians involved in the disaster. Achieving optimal MRS efficiency requires the implementation of a well-suited task allocation mechanism and a highly efficient pathfinding algorithm. However, due to inconsistent communication and low bandwidth, traditional frameworks in the mentioned domains may be impractical or may not work well. To address these problems, a novel Bi-Layer Joint Training Reinforcement (BJoT-RL) framework is proposed where, in the first layer, a Multi-Head Deep Q-Learning (MHDQN) is designed to perform task allocation;whereas, in the second layer, a Condition-Constrained Q-Learning (CCQ) is proposed to perform pathfinding. Noticeably, the output of each layer is used in the training of the other layer to realize a tight coupling, hence the innovative joint training. Thorough simulations show that the BJoT-RL framework performs better than state-of-the-art solutions in such applications.

The goal of (network) intrusion detection systems is to identify unauthorized or malicious activities within a computer network. In this work we consider the following theoretical model for intrusion detection systems in large data center networks. We assume that the network is modeled as a leaf-spine-architecture with m spine nodes and n leaves. In a sequence of observation periods, each spine node stores a snapshot of the communication graph and accumulates (an approximation of) the number of alerts caused by suspicious behavior. To identify the responsible malicious nodes, we apply a distributed reconstruction algorithm based on quantitative group testing: In quantitative group testing we are given a binary signal sigma of Hamming weight k along with a querying method. Each query pools multiple entries of s together and returns the sum of the entries in the pool. The goal is to reconstruct s using as few queries as possible. Our contributions in this paper are three-fold. First we mathematically analyze a distributed reconstruction algorithm for the quantitative group testing instance induced by our intrusion detection model. In particular, we analyze the performance assuming a communication graph where each leaf sends Geom(p) many packets to the spine nodes in each time interval, where p is a parameter of the model. Second, we prove that our algorithm achieves a performance that is optimal up to logarithmic factors. Finally, we simulate our approach and provide empirical data that show that our approach works well in practice. The main novelty of our analysis is that the test-design is given by the communication graphs that are accumulated in multiple observation periods. This is in contrast to classical group testing where the algorithm is allowed to decide on the test design, and we believe that our analysis of non-standard test designs is of independent interest to the distributed group testing community.

With the growing reliance on digital systems in today's mobile Internet era, robust authentication methods are crucial for safeguarding personal data and controlling access to resources. Conventional methods, such as knowledge-based and biometric-based authentication, are widely used but still have some usage limitations and potential security concerns, like wearing protective suits/masks or being imitated by attackers with ulterior motives. In this paper, we propose another earphone-based authentication system, namely EarPass, that leverages users' unique head motion patterns in response to a very short period of music segment. Here, we employ a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-based feature extractor to capture and map distinct head motions into a well-separated latent space, achieving high-dimensional data extraction. We demonstrate the consistency, uniqueness, and robustness of head motion patterns through extensive experiments and reach a 98.2% F1-score, indicating superior performance compared to conventional authentication methods. Additionally, EarPass is user-friendly, secure, and adaptable to various environments, including noisy and movement-oriented scenarios. By integrating the authentication system into Android devices, we showcase its real-world applicability and low energy consumption with minimal latency. The source code of EarPass will be open-source to further research and collaboration within the community.

This paper provides a novel solution for developing a virtual keyboard and mouse (VKM) system that is easily manageable and portable. The traditional keyboards and mouse devices take up valuable desk space and are not easily customizable to different languages. On-screen keyboards and 3-D cameras are alternatives, but they also have drawbacks. Our proposed method makes use of computer vision techniques and calls for a mini-projector and a web camera as necessary hardware. The system tracks hand keypoints to detect real-time touch events and uses the Mediapipe tool to detect hands and keystrokes. The mouse functionality is also implemented by monitoring the finger hovering. Through experimentation, we show that our VKM solution can provide an accuracy of >90% for detecting the correct keystroke, with a typing speed of similar to 55 letters/min.

The rapid expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) poses challenges to certain applications, such as Digital Twin (DT). While data from user devices can be filtered by human intelligence, this is not feasible for IoT devices. Owing to the voluminous data generated by IoT devices that require transmission and computing, traditional cloud computing architectures may no longer guarantee the Quality of Experience (QoE), even causing network congestion. To address this issue, we propose a novel Cloud-Network-Edge-Terminal (CNET) model, which includes an intelligent edge layer for filtering IoT data. The computing paradigm shift indicates that the network will provide services at the edge rather than in the cloud, which is so-called service localization. To demonstrate the benefits of service localization, we use integrated user requirement descriptions to measure QoE, specifically the concepts of Service Requirement Zone (SRZ) and User Satisfaction Ratio (USR). Additionally, we conduct extensive numerical simulations to evaluate the model's performance under varying Degrees of Localization (DoL). Our results show that service localization can significantly improve USR even in changing network conditions.

We present our research project on distributed, agent-based control in dynamic environments. We motivate the usage of agents and their difficulties in dynamic environments like the Web, and relate this to the fields of distributed and agent-based systems. We describe our idea of lightweight strategies for agents to adapt behavior on disturbances without relying on centralized mechanisms, and outline objectives and challenges of our project. Finally, we explain our simulation experiments as research method, and discuss our initial results to design distributed, lightweight, scalable agents for dynamic environments.

distributed Deep Neural Network (DNN) inference is a promising technology to explore the distributed resources in edge cloud to realize edge intelligence. Meanwhile the inherent resource sharing nature of edge cloud infrastructure also raises serious concerns on security and privacy. Software Guard Extensions (SGX) emerges as a potential hardware-level solution but its limited secure memory (i.e., enclave page cache) imposes new challenges, especially in contrast to memory-hungry DNN models. A task's performance will be severely affected when its memory footprint is beyond the enclave page cache size, due to expensive secure page swapping. In this case, how to appropriately partition a DNN model and assign the partitions to distributed edge servers to efficiently utilize edge resources for fast secure inference becomes a challenging problem. In this paper, we first show that this problem is NP-hard. We further propose a MEmory-aware distributed Inference Acceleration (MEDIA) algorithm, whose guaranteed approximation ratio is also formally analyzed. We have implemented a prototype system and applied some well-known representative DNN models to evaluate MEDIA's performance. Through extensive experiments, we verify the efficiency of MEDIA by the fact that it reduces the inference time by 19.5%-38.1% in comparison with state-of-the-art approaches.
