The charging of electric vehicles (EVs) via common DC bus charging infrastructure based on hybrid renewable energy sources such as solar photovoltaic (PV) and fuel cell is presented here. The requisite to incorporate renewable energy based distributed energy resources (DERs) is attributed to the escalating concern for decarbonisation with improved power quality requirements. Furthermore, the bidirectional flow of power enables the charging/discharging of EVs during the grid presence/absence modes of operation. In addition, the utilization of common DC bus charging mechanism for EVs, facilitates fast charging capability at higher voltage levels. The satisfactory operation during the grid availability/unavailability is attained through the current and voltage based control mechanisms, along with the seamless transition capability via switching (STS-1/0) of the static transfer switches. Furthermore, in compliance with the ieee standards, the power quality (PQ) improvement is obtained with the utilization of an adaptive comb-filter based current control during the grid-tied mode of operation. The need for improving PQ, stems from the fact that an uninterrupted supply is essential to the critical loads along with an improved power quality. Thus, for validation and corroboration of the system behavior, its performance is authenticated during weak grid conditions, in conjunction with grid connected/islanded modes of operation.

In the realm of cloud computing, the prevalence of intra-phase congestion due to concurrent periodic requests from a multitude of clients frequently results in heightened resource consumption, elongated queuing times, and prolonged response durations. To tackle these challenges, this paper presents a groundbreaking 'Adaptive Out-of-Phase Scheduling' technique, utilizing a server-side PID controller to induce constructive dissonance, strategically phase-shifting clients by delaying subsequent requests based on server feedback, leading to dispersed out-of-phase transitions. The hallmark of our method is its uncomplicatedness, obviating the necessity for intricate execution analysis or elaborate optimal scheduling decisions. Empirical evaluation on an operational web server demonstrates the efficacy of this technique in mitigating resource utilization, reducing response time by half, and significantly decreasing response time variability. Our technique offers an efficient and practical solution to intra-phase congestion in periodic tasks, optimizing both system performance and resource efficacy in diverse cloud computing environments. Our method is scalable, versatile, and aptly adapted for real-world applications, with potential future research exploring fine-tuning and trade-offs in various system setups. By proficiently mitigating the ramifications of simultaneous periodic tasks in an efficient and streamlined fashion, our approach is primed to advance the evolution of more responsive and optimized cloud computing infrastructures, yielding advantages across a wide range of applications and services.

A captivating set of hypotheses from the field of neuroscience suggests that human and animal brain mechanisms result from few powerful principles. If proved to be accurate, these assumptions could open a deep understanding of the way humans and animals manage to cope with the unpredictability of events and imagination. Modern distributedsystems also deal with uncertain scenarios, where environments, infrastructures, and applications are widely diverse. In the scope of Edge-Fog-Cloud computing, leveraging these neuroscience-inspired principles and mechanisms could aid in building more flexible solutions able to generalize over different environments. In this work, we focus on the approaches that center on high-level, general strategies, like the Free Energy Principle and Global Neuronal Workspace theories. The goal of exploring these techniques is to introduce principles that can potentially help us build distributedsystems able to jointly work on the whole computing continuum, from the Edge to the Cloud, with self-adapting capabilities, i.e., dealing with uncertainty and the need for generalization, which is currently an open issue.
