Since the late 20(th) century, there has been an increasing demand and interest for stretchable, bendable, and flexible electronics for different applications, such as medicine, wearable devices, and in industry applications. Unlike most image sensors, which are planar and inflexible, in this work, an ultra-thin image sensor is performed as a Hybrid System in Foil (HySiF) by using Chip-Film Patch technology, which is a concept for high-performance and ultra-thin flexible electronics. The technology allows the integration of ultra-thin chips and widely distributed electronic components, such as sensors, microcontrollers, or antennas, in thin flexible polymer film, using CMOS-compatible equipment and processing. In order to characterize this image sensor embedded in foil, an adapter board for the Andvantest 93000SOIC test system was developed. This paper demonstrates production process of the HySiF and its behavior and performance. In addition, the applications and future work of this bendable image sensor in foil system is discussed.

The state-of-the-art Internet of Things (IoT) innovation known as the Autonomous Gas Reservoir Management System (AGaRMS) totally changes the most common way of overseeing gas supplies. AGaRMS uses sensors that monitor gas levels and a distributed architecture that forecasts patterns in gas use to ensure that gas refills occur at the right time. Complex AI calculations examine verifiable information, current weather patterns, and usage patterns to estimate when gas will run out. This, then, prompts robotized booking sales to be transported off the supplier. Likewise, AGaRMS appeals to the savvy progression of energy, which empowers strong gas usage. The framework's flexibility and versatility make it reasonable for use in private and business settings, further developing production network productivity, reducing working expenses, and improving the client experience. The AGaRMS system offers a smart method for managing gas leaders that work with gathering effective power energy practices and streamlining gas provisioning processes. AGaRMS optimizes the gas supply chain and improves the user experience by catering to a wide range of residential and industrial applications with its flexible and scalable design. © 2024 ieee.

Perceiving the dynamical environment both visually and tactilely is crucial for the survival of animals, and therefore, is considered of importance in robotics research. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in vision-based tactile sensors due to their high sensing resolution and robustness to environmental changes. However, almost all vision-based tactile sensors make only partial use of the camera, specifically, only when contact occurs, and stay idle at other times, which results in a waste of the camera information bandwidth. In this paper, we propose a new visual-tactile dual-modality sensor called SpecTac, which can visually inspect the environment and make tactile observations. The main novelty of the sensor is the use of ultraviolet (UV) LEDs and randomly distributed UV fluorescent markers. When the LEDs are on, those markers will be bright and can easily be distinguished and tracked from the background. Besides, by controlling the on and off of the UV LEDs, due to the switchable visibility of those markers, the sensor will switch between visual and tactile sensing mode. The qualities of tactile and visual perception are evaluated quantitatively by force estimation, visual triangulation and visual feature matching. By combining both modalities into one compact sensor, the information from the camera is better utilized, and it is hoped that the sensor will achieve more flexibility in the motion of the robot arm, especially in tasks where the workspace is narrow.

In this paper, we present the design and development of a novel optical tactile sensor that uses a single-pixel color light-to-frequency converter (TCS3200) and spectral decoding to recognize presses at different positions. This innovative approach overcomes the limitations associated with camera-based sensors, such as increased manufacturing costs and shape restrictions, enabling potential integration as a skin-like layer over a robot's body. Our proposed direct light propagation structure demonstrates enhanced sensitivity and a broader measuring range compared to traditional reflection structures. Using Ecoflex as the elastomer, the sensor's design incorporates a three-layer structure, including an LED layer, an elastomer layer, and a color sensor layer. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed sensor performs well in localization tasks, achieving over 95% accuracy using multi-target regression for rendering poked positions. This study demonstrates the potential of single-pixel-based tactile sensors in various applications and provides a foundation for further exploration in this area. © 2023 ieee.

This paper compares three different methods for signal alignment called dynamic time warping (DTW), modified dynamic time warping (mDTW) and cross-correlation (CC). RR signals from two different sensor systems, a commercial Wellness Wearable System (Smartex, Italy) and custom-made BACQ system with multi-electrode array (Tecnalia, Sebia) are aligned by DTW, mDTW and CC. Several metrics such as correlation coefficient, reliability, root mean square method and Bland-Altman plots are calculated in order to show the performance of these three methods. All measures indicate that mDTW outperforms other methods. In addition, only mDTW successfully trimmed the beginning and the end of longer signal to match the short one. © 2023 ieee.

Air pollution has devastating impacts on the well-being of people, creatures, and ecosystems and the stability of the environment. The proportion of contaminants and strange circumstances in an area may be precisely monitored by an air pollution monitoring system, which has been recommended to mitigate and control air pollution. Furthermore, numerous IoT-related technologies have been created to analyze and monitor different metrics of air quality to lessen air pollution's negative effects. This Internet of Things (IoT)-based approach aims to track pollution in various locations, focusing on urban areas, utilizing a network of interconnected sensors. It's proposed that different stations be located in other parts of cities. Stations update the IoT cloud with data regularly. A smart sensor is a device that can collect data from its surrounding environment and analyze it using onboard computing capabilities after detecting a particular input. This article suggests an Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled smart sensor Interface (IoT-SSI) system for monitoring the air quality in densely populated places like shopping complexes. The sensors like MQ-2, MQ-4, MQ-5, MQ-6, MQ-7, MQ-8, and MQ-135, Temperature, and Humidity sensors are embedded to monitor the air quality. The platform's sensor networks use advanced processing utilizing multiple-input-single-output neural networks to get gas concentration values that account for temperature and humidity. The realtime readings from the sensor fusion model give a vast amount of data collecting and digitally providing services on these capabilities. In addition, it looks at various scenarios where IoT air quality monitoring technologies were tested and successfully passed in shopping complexes. © 2023 ieee.

In parallel and distributed file systems, caching can improve data performance and metadata operations. Currently, most distributed file systems adopt a write-back data cache for performance and a write-through metadata cache for simplifying consistency. However, with modern file systems scales and workloads, write-through metadata caching can impact overall file system performance, e.g., through lock contention and heavy RPC loads required for namespace synchronization and transaction serialization. This paper proposes a novel metadata write-back caching (MetaWBC) mechanism to improve the performance of metadata operations in distributed environments. To achieve extreme metadata performance, we developed a fast, lightweight, and POSIX-compatible memory file system as a metadata cache. Further, we designed a file caching state machine and included other performance optimizations. We coupled MetaWBC with Lustre and evaluated that MetaWBC can outperform the native parallel file system by up to 8x for metadata-intensive benchmarks, and up to 7x for realistic workloads in throughput.

Autonomous systems are operating without human intervention. This requires them to have a good model of themselves and their environment to ensure they operate safely towards their goals. Within a confined or static environment, a simple model can be enough to achieve this requirement. However, if we intend to have autonomous systems to operate intelligently within as well as together with their environment, a model alone will not suffice. Limitations and assumptions of the models and the initial prototypes that informed the modelling process, as well as environments never encountered while in prototyping stage, eventually render the model of a deployed system inaccurate. We can overcome this issue by updating the model at runtime. This is considered a digital shadow as it will reflect the current state of the environment at runtime. When this digital model is not only updated at runtime and reflects the current state but also is able to provide feedback to the real system at runtime, we consider this a Digital Twin (DT). Over the past years, DTs have become not only an essential tool in the development of cyber-physical systems but also an integral part of intelligent autonomous systems.

Large-scale wireless sensor networks have become an invaluable tool for dense spatiotemporal modeling of urban air pollution. When coupled with complex nonlinear regression schemes, they become an unparalleled tool capable of dynamic, autonomous sensor calibration as well as completely latent parametric inference. In this work we present T-3 : The Tiny Time-Series Transformer, a hard-shared multi-target deep neural network based on the Transformer Encoder architecture and designed for multivariate realtime inference at the edge of large-scale environmental sensor networks. We demonstrate our approach by deploying T-3 to an active pollution monitoring network, where it is tasked with the multi-target output of calibrated particulate matter and temperature, as well as the latent inference of tropospheric ozone, using fused time-series measurements from the onboard sensors as input. We show that T-3 greatly outperforms classical linear regression techniques while matching accuracy of current state-of-the-art nonlinear regression architectures at a fraction of the footprint size.
