Spatial modulation (SM) is a promising technique for 5G systems as it guarantees good data rate at reduced complexity. Increased data rate and increased energy efficiency is possible with spatial modulation due to the fact that information is transmitted in the indices of the transmit antenna and also on the constellation symbol. Cooperative Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) technique based on spatial modulation is proposed to reduce the interchannel interference and synchronization problems among transmit nodes and achieve high multiplexing gain in Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs). A cooperative MIMO framework is formed by considering spatially distributed nodes each with a single antenna employing spatial modulation for improving the energy efficiency of WSN. In the proposed technique the theoretical Pairwise error probability (PEP) is derived from the minimum Euclidean distance between the transmitted symbols. The Bit error rate (BER) performance and energy consumption per bit of the proposed technique is presented and compared with the performance of Spatial Modulation (SM)technique. © 2022 ieee.

A Wireless sensor Network is an infrastructure-free wireless network that uses an ad-hoc deployment of a large number of wireless sensors to monitor system, physical, and environmental factors. sensor node energy consumption is a major determinant of wireless sensor network longevity. The distributed Energy-aware Fuzzy Logic-based routing algorithm (DEFL) proposed in this paper aims to strike a compromise between energy efficiency measures balance. For the shortest path calculation, our architecture captures the network state using relevant energy measurements and maps them to cost values. I also added a Redundant Packet Monitoring Algorithm to each sensor node as a recommended technique, which attaches temporary memory to each sensor node and checks it anytime the sensor node senses any data. © 2022 ieee.

The problem of adopting quantum-resistant cryptographic network protocols or post-quantum cryptography (PQC) is critically important to democratizing quantum computing. The problem is urgent because practical quantum computers will break classical encryption in the next few decades. Past encrypted data has already been collected and can be decrypted in the near future. The main challenges of adopting post-quantum cryptography lie in algorithmic complexity and hardware/software/network implementation. The grand question of how existing cyberinfrastructure will support post-quantum cryptography remains unanswered. This paper describes: i) the design of a novel Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) network instrument placed at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a part of the FABRIC testbed;ii) the latest results on PQC adoption rate across a wide spectrum of network protocols (Secure Shell - SSH, Transport Layer Security - TLS, etc.);iii) the current state of PQC implementation in key scientific applications (e.g., OpenSSH or SciTokens);iv) the challenges of being quantum-resistant;and v) discussion of potential novel attacks. This is the first large-scale measurement of PQC adoption at national-scale supercomputing centers and FABRIC testbeds. Our results show that only OpenSSH and Google Chrome have successfully implemented PQC and achieved an initial adoption rate of 0.029% (6,044 out of 20,556,816) for OpenSSH connections at NCSA coming from major Internet Service Providers or Autonomous systems (ASes) such as OARNET, GTT, Google FiberWebpass (U.S.) and Uppsala Lans Landsting (Sweden), with an overall increasing adoption rate year-over-year for 2023-2024. Our analyses identify pathways to migrate current applications to be quantum-resistant.

The advent of the Internet of Things (loT) has opened up a realm of possibilities in developing globally accessible systems and devices. With the current state of internet speeds, these systems offer real-time control, making them more powerful than ever. Simultaneously, the healthcare sector has been witnessing notable advancements, but it also grapples with an increasing number of health issues, with heart problems standing out as a prominent concern in many countries. These problems manifest in various symptoms, some of which can lead to more serious conditions, such as irregular heartbeats. In response to these challenges and leveraging cutting-edge technology, researchers have embarked on endeavors to enhance healthcare devices and render them more readily available to medical professionals. This paper explores the merging of loT technology with healthcare, specifically focusing on the development of a system designed to monitor and record a patient's heartbeat. This is achieved through the deployment of a Heartbeat/SpO2 sensor, and the data is seamlessly transmitted to a mobile application accessible remotely. The outcomes of this study demonstrate that the heartbeat data captured by Arduino is effectively transmitted to the cloud, meeting the system's predefined objectives. This represents a significant stride in harnessing loT's potential to enhance healthcare practices and patient monitoring. © 2023 ieee.

distributed generation (DG) is being integrated into power systems worldwide to reduce fossil fuel consumption and avoid the expense of transmission lines. In addition to the aforementioned benefits, it also poses issues for protection co-ordination, power quality, and the establishment of an islanding condition that must be resolved for proper operation and seamless transition of mictrogrid in islanding mode to perserve reliability. Islanding is an unwanted state that can pose safety risks to utility workers, power system equipments, and customer devices. In this paper, severe consequences of unintentional islanding are discussed and a ROCOF based method for islanding detection for multiple energy resources based system is proposed. Simulation results considering different normal and islanding cases are exhibited, which proves fast detection with effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method. © 2023 ieee.

Operational Transformation (OT) algorithms, at the heart of web-based collaboration, have been studied since the late 1980s and remain a hot research subject. Centralized versions of OT algorithms that can be implemented on top of cloud-based serverless platforms are still unexplored. This poster introduces a Control Loop view of OT algorithms that are modeled by a series of Finite State Automata (FSAs) embedded in a serverless system architecture. A series of nested Finite State Machines (FSMs) dynamically control the co-editing processes. The proposed platform was simulated to demonstrate the correctness of the OT algorithms. Results obtained from the simulation are presented and an interactive demonstration is given.

In recent years, the threat of bushfires in Australia has evolved at an unprecedented rate. With this comes increasing concerns from authorities and operators surrounding the impact of distributed generation systems (DGS) across the country. Though studies have been conducted into the impact of bushfires in Australia and the optimal power flow (OPF) of DGS, there is a lack of research integrating these two concepts. Therefore, this work will aim to analyse the impact of bushfires on the OPF of the Greater Sydney Region's DGS. Following extensive research into both concepts, a bushfire model and an OPF model have been integrated. The integration model outputs power flow data as the Greater Sydney region's DGS is impacted by the fire. When a transmission line is cut off by fire, the unsupplied power demand must be generated and re-distributed from another bus. Inevitably, a penalty cost will be associated with this which leads to an increase in the total operational cost of the system. The results indicate that the potential penalty cost and associated operational cost increase when a transmission line is cut off by fire. An optimal strategy that aims at protecting vulnerable buses and minimizing these costs was defined. This strategy outlines the requirement to further protect Eraring, Sydney West and Sydney North as these buses are the most critical within the network due to their fuel type and role. This work defines a new strategy to help combat the impact of bushfires on one of Australia's most essential DGS and to balance the trade-off between meeting consumer's demand and minimising operational costs. © 2023 ieee.

This work reports a unique photonic crystal based temperature sensor. The modal analysis of photonic crystal fiber structure for the electric field distribution has been presented for X-polarization and Y-polarization. The coorelation analysis between the effective mode index and temperature has been investigated in the sensor using Comsol Multiphysics. The proposed sensor presents the the variation of temperature in the range of 20 degrees to 100 degree celcius which shows the variation of effective of mode index 1.273 to 1.276. The design includes the effective use of C2H5OH (ethyl alcohol or ethanol) as a analyzing medium for the sensing of temperature. The device present the fundamental concept of temperature sensing using photonic crystal fiber which can be employed for the further utilization in complex circuits for various application in Biophotonics, integrated optics etc. © 2022 ieee.

Electric vehicles (EVs) may provide an ecologically sustainable way of transportation. EV charging stations (EVCS) are being developed worldwide to encourage the widespread adoption of EVs. However, the adoption of EVs on a large scale necessitates for the strategic positioning of EVCS across the distribution network. In this paper, the goal of integrating distributed Generation (DG) with real and reactive power correction capabilities is to mitigate the negative impacts of EVCS load on the distribution network. For optimal siting, sizing and operating power factor of DGs with EVCS, nature inspired Marine Predator Algorithm (MPA) is employed. Multiple objective functions, such as active power losses, voltage deviation, the investment cost of DG units, and the voltage stability index, are taken into account. Several scenarios of different number of DG units with EVCS installations are considered to assess the efficacy of the proposed method on 33 and 69-bus radial power distribution systems. The MPA outcomes are also verified by comparing them with the outcomes of the dragonfly algorithm. © 2023 ieee.

Wireless sensor networks are increasingly used for improving the operation of industrial machines and facilities. Such complex and distributed networks are composed of embedded devices. These devices are typically powered by batteries or energy harvesting, and can thus be classified as energy constrained devices. Especially, the embedded devices powered by energy harvesting rely on sufficient harvestable energy. The correct operation of the whole network may depend on the correct operation of a single device. Thus, relevant energy harvesting scenarios must be ideally covered by functional tests of such networks. To be able to emulate different energy harvesting scenarios in combination with the distributed character of such networks, we have developed a distributed testbed based on the robot operating system (ROS). This paper presents the architecture and describes relevant testing aspects for such devices. Furthermore, it introduces a use case for testing wireless sensor nodes supplied by energy harvesting and presents exemplary testing procedure results. Finally, it discusses the advantages of incorporating such testing procedures into a continuous integration process to verify the correct functionality of the embedded devices during development. © 2023 ieee.
