Concerns regarding Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) disparities among the vulnerable populations have been studied widely and extend to vaccine allocation. With the current status of the pandemic, emergence of new variants, and recommendations toward the administration of third and fourth booster shots, understanding the population-level vaccine coverage status is critical for achieving equity in public health outcomes. In a previous population-level study focused on California counties, using the data from U.S. Census Bureau, Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), California Health & Human Services Agency (CHHS), and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we investigated the scope of vaccine inequity. In this research, we modeled the trends of vaccination using the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) and its four components, including "socioeconomic status," "household composition and disability," "minority status and language," and "housing type and transportation." Growth velocity and anticipated maximum proportion of the vaccinated population were modeled based on 9228 data points of daily vaccination numbers from December 15, 2020, to May 23, 2021, SVI, and its four themes. We reported that although vaccination coverage was significantly lower in high vulnerability counties, they are estimated to achieve a higher proportion of vaccinated individuals eventually, particularly based on SVI Theme 3, while predicting that disparities in vaccination rates decrease over time.

Economic sensor networks have always been a boon to disaster management applications due to their ease of setup. Communication is difficult for them due of their vulnerability to a variety of security dangers. This study presents a new routing strategy those guards against both external and internal threats such as hello flooding, eavesdropping, and wormhole attacks. To limit energy dissipation, this method employs a one-way hash chain. Event-driven clustering at the level also saves energy. The suggested technique extends network longevity even when the cluster-based wireless sensor network is under attack, according to simulated results. A 5G wireless sensor network (WSN) is a collection of self-contained nodes that monitor the environment. WSN design goals like as energy efficiency or secure data transmission are primarily measured. With the increasing difficulties of workstation networks, network-based attacks have drawn the attention of various academics from various domains. As a result, multiple intrusion detection systems (IDS) have been built to address various areas of complicated security, such as denial-of-service attacks, worms, viruses, malware, and so on. IDS automation has been designed to safely restore the realization of energy-efficient routing in wireless sensor networks. Intrusion detection and data transmission performed in a secure manner using automatic finite deterministic and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms that determine and follow an optimum path. Routing along the optimal path can restore the overall appearance of a sensor network in wireless technology, and it can be managed using a variety of indicators (such as power expenditure, capacity, network life, active nodes and dead nodes). The threat model and safety objectives for secure routing in wireless networks are discussed in this paper. The simulation was carried out using the MATLAB simulation software. © 2021 ieee.

In this work we present sub-space modeling of strong PUF as a cost efficient solution for PUF enrollment for the designers’ community. Our goal is to demonstrate a method which can reduce the overall cost in terms of number of CRPs required for training, training time and memory. Instead of modifying the estimated model structure, we propose to reduce the complexity of the modeling target. This means to provide secured access to the internal responses of strong PUF during the enrollment and capture internal CRPs to model each sub-component of the PUF independently. It also necessitates to permanently remove the internal access after the enrollment to prevent exposure of the internal responses. This means that the internal responses should not be directly accessible after enrollment. Our sub-space modeling method requires lesser number of CRPs compared to modeling the whole PUF. We experimentally prove that sub-space modeling can significantly reduce the cost of training compared to some of the latest works. For instance, we could model 128-stage 6-XOR Arbiter PUF with just above 90% prediction accuracy with 5000 CRPs. Here the response in the CRP is a vector including the responses of the sub-components. Our results show that sub-space modeling is potentially a cost-efficient solution to enroll strong PUF with high complexity.

This paper is devoted to brief description of new yet having well proven track record experience of distributed fully passive optical sensors system application in the field of accurate, highly sensitive, adoptable and flexible measurement technology for power system equipment monitoring by means of real time current, voltage, temperature, vibration and strain data gathering. Both transmission and distribution power system application examples are discussed. Obstacles and ways of their overcoming are addressed, as well as practical on-hand international implementation experience in various countries (Scotland, Norway) mentioned. Investigation of several operation and maintenance functions for the relay protection systems, namely-fault location and multi-ended differential protection, executable smartly via usage of optical sensors system, carried out. Farther technology implementation for optical current and voltage sensing (as primary pattern) and strain measurement coupled with temperature and vibration (as secondary one) reviewed as a new step of power system equipment comprehensive monitoring and processes digitalization. © 2021 ieee.

Software in modern vehicles is becoming increasingly complex and subject to vulnerabilities that an intruder can exploit to alter the functionality of vehicles. To this purpose, we introduce CAHOOT, a novel context-aware Intrusion Detection System (IDS) capable of detecting potential intrusions in both human and autonomous driving modes. In CAHOOT, context information consists of data collected at run-time by vehicle’s sensors and engine. Such information is used to determine drivers’ habits and information related to the environment, like traffic conditions. In this paper, we create and use a dataset by using a customised version of the MetaDrive simulator capable of collecting both human and AI driving data. Then we simulate several types of intrusions while driving: denial of service, spoofing and replay attacks. As a final step, we use the generated dataset to evaluate the CAHOOT algorithm by using several machine learning methods. The results show that CAHOOT is extremely reliable in detecting intrusions.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is considered an evolving technology, consisting of different types of connected devices that have sensors, specialized hardware, and software. However, considerable challenges related to user data privacy, security, and device integrity are presented by this swift expansion, with digital identity being identified as a significant concern in the online landscape. Established by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) [2], Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) represent a standardized format for defining identity. A peer-to-peer model for managing identity and credentials through self-sovereign identity is facilitated by DIDs, in conjunction with blockchain technology and public-key cryptography. The development of verifiable credentials is enabled by the combination of DIDs and blockchain technology, allowing for the verification of the identities of transacting parties through distributed identity registration and the identification of cryptographic keys necessary for validating electronic authentication during transactions. This integrated framework is regarded as both reliable and trusted. Device registration, verification, and credential revocation are enabled by it. In addition, security is ensured, the privacy of participating nodes is respected, and data integrity is upheld to address several existing challenges, such as data scalability and confidentiality. Trusted management and transaction of IoT data are ensured by the presented IoT data platform. Blockchain, decentralized identifiers, and public key cryptography are integrated by the authors to develop this platform. Self-sovereign identity is granted to each participating device, and dynamic changes in components like consensus algorithms and databases are supported by key features. Being able to anticipate actions is a critical part of many applications nowadays. One of them is autonomous driving, undoubtedly one of the most popular subjects today, where action anticipation can be used to help define how the vehicle should act next. In this work, we present a method for action anticipation in the autonomous driving scenario, specifically to anticipate pedestrian intentions. The method extracts movement features from a video sequence, to which we can add context information from other sensors. These features are used by a deep learning sequential model, which predicts the action being done by a pedestrian. Furthermore, we propose a skeleton completer, which can be used for many other applications. We also explore the concept of decisions under uncertainty, since this is a high risk scenario, and propose an effective method to decide whether or not to anticipate the action. Our methods obtain state of the art results in terms of the anticipation accuracy in two comprehensive datasets.

IoT data are usually exchanged via pub/sub, e.g., based on the MQTT protocol. Especially in the IoT, however, the relevance of data often depends on the geo-context, e.g., the location of data source and sink. In this paper, we propose two inter-broker routing strategies that use this characteristic for the selection of rendezvous points. We evaluate analytically and through experiments with a distributed pub/sub prototype which strategy is best suited in three IoT scenarios. Based on simulation, we compare the performance and efficiency of our approach to the state of the art: Our strategies reduce the event delivery latency by up to 22 times compared to the only alternative that sends slightly fewer messages. Our strategies also require significantly less inter-broker messages than all other approaches while achieving at least the same performance.

Predicting seizures ahead of time will have a significant positive clinical impact for people with epilepsy. Advances in machine learning/artificial intelligence (ML/AI) has provided us the tools needed to perform such predictive tasks. To date, advanced deep learning (DL) architectures such as the convolutional neural network (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) have been used with mixed results. However, highly connected activity exhibited by epileptic seizures necessitates the design of more complex ML techniques which can better capture the complex interconnected neurological processes. Other challenges include the variability of EEG sensor data quality, different epilepsy and seizure profiles, lack of annotated datasets and absence of ML-ready benchmarks. In addition, successful models will need to perform inference in almost real-time using limited hardware compute-capacity. To address these challenges, we propose a lightweight architecture, called ESPFormer, whose novelty lies in the simple and smaller model-size and a lower computational load footprint needed to infer in real-time compared to other works in the literature. To quantify the performance of this lightweight model, we compared its performance with a custom-designed residual neural network (ResNet), a pre-trained vision transformer (ViT) and a pre-trained large-language model (LLM). We tested ESPFormer on MLSPred-Bench which is the largest patient-independent seizure prediction dataset comprising 12 benchmarks. Our results demonstrate that ESPFormer provides the best performance in terms of prediction accuracy for 4/12 benchmarks with an average improvement of 2.65% compared to the LLM, 3.35% compared to the ViT and 17.65% compared to the ResNet – and comparable results for other benchmarks. Our results indicate that lightweight transformer architecture may outperform resource-intensive LLM based models for real-time EEG-based seizure predictions.
