This paper presents integration of software services of smart-sensors into distributed process automation systems using the IEC 61499 architecture. This solution enhances interoperability of IIoT devices and reduces system integration effort. Benefits of IEC 61499 for implementing systems with smart sensors mixing both change and time-based signals have been proven. This also promises reduced power requirements of the field devices.

Industrial automation is undergoing a tremendous change due to the proliferation of the concepts, the Internet of Things (IoT), Cyber-Physical systems (CPS) and tactile internet, which enables the interconnections of factory floor devices and enterprise network on a wider and fine-grained scale. Vision sensor deployments are getting great momentum in factories, as it improves the quality and productivity of the systems being inspected. Smart Vision sensors[1] removes the need of the additional infrastructures for running the image processing algorithms and vision applications, by directly running the vision logic on the device and control/monitor the various parameters on the field based on the image processing outputs. Industrial vision sensor (IVIS) is an industrial smart camera, which has a CMOS image sensor[2] and a powerful on-board processing system capable of supporting machine vision applications, for improving the product and process qualities and thereby improve the yield and profit. IVIS is capable of extracting application-specific information from the captured images and make decisions based on the image processing algorithms implemented on the system, to realize stand-alone intelligent and decision-making automation system. In this paper we present the design and development of IVIS, its application domains and preliminary test results.

Feedback-based optimization algorithms use real-time measurements to update the optimal control for the underlying system which may not be fully identified. Recently, we have developed a distributed feedback-based algorithm [1] that avoids the requirement of fast communication between central computing and local actuator/sensor agents. This paper extends the work by greatly reducing the number of copies of variables involved in the distributed feedback-based algorithm, which results in faster convergence and lower communication requirement. The main idea is to leverage the specific structural properties of the admittance matrix for distribution systems with tree network topology. We also show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in simulations.

distributed generators (DGs) are a dependable alternative for providing customers with affordable and reliable power. It is described as an electric power source connected to the distribution network or the customer's premises. To get economic, technological, environmental, and regulatory benefits, it is required to plan DGs optimally in terms of size, placement, and type. In this paper, optimal sizing and placement problem of DGs has been addressed. A multi-objective formulation considering loss reduction in conjunction with improvement in voltage profile has been formulated. The analysis has also been conducted through variation in weighting factors. An enhanced version of conventional particle swarm optimization (PSO) called as Butterfly-PSO (BF-PSO) has been used for DG sizing and placement. The study has been carried out for the ieee 33 bus radial distribution feeder. The results obtained through BF-PSO has been compared with PSO in order to establish its superiority.

Network virtualization recognized as an enabling technology for the forthcoming networks is utterly popular. One of the main challenges of network virtualization is called the virtual network embedding problem. Virtual network embedding (VNE) aims to allocate a set of virtual machines onto a set of interconnected physical hardware in the cloud computing environment. Traditional exact solutions, considered as a time-consuming process to achieve a global optimal solution, have been proofed to be NP-hard. On the other hand, some existing heuristic solutions tend to decouple VNE problems into two stages: virtual node mapping (VNoM) and virtual link mapping (VLiM). Undoubtedly, these kinds of decomposition would result in low acceptance ratio and inefficient substrate resource utilization. In this paper, we propose a distributed parallel Genetic Algorithm combined with graph theory for solving VNE in one-stage. Our proposed algorithm achieves better performance than previous baseline solutions while meeting the stringent time requirements for online VNE problems.

In this paper a case study is performed to optimally allocate real power injections at unity power factor as DG on the ieee 33 bus radial distribution system using a modified Grey Wolf Optimization method. The study is performed in MATLAB. The main objective of this study is to explore the effectiveness of using the modified algorithm in improving the system voltage profile and in reducing the total system line losses. The objective function is modeled as the total system line losses which shall be subject to equality constraints in power-flow and inequality constraints in voltage level. The obtained results are then compared to the outputs from using other optimization techniques including the classical grey wolf optimizer method as well as other metaheuristic methods such as Particle Swarm Optimization, and Bat algorithms. Furthermore, two runs are performed for each of the modified algorithm as well as the classical algorithm to investigate the effect of tightening the voltage constraint has on the algorithms' performances.

All-to-all communication has a wide range of ap-plications in parallel applications like FFT. On most supercom-puters, there are multiple cores in a node. Message aggregation is an efficient method for smaller messages. Using multi-leader to aggregate message show significant improvement in intra-node overhead. However, compared to one-leader aggregation, existing multi-leader design incurs more message count and less aggregated message size. This paper proposes an Overlapped Multi-worker Multi-port all-to-all (OVALL) to scale the message size and parallelism of the aggregation algorithm. The algorithm exploits the all-to-all multi-core parallelism, concurrent commu-nication, and overlapping capabilities. Experiment results show that, compared to systems built-in MPI, OVALL'implementation achieves up to 5.9x or 18x speedup compared to MPI on different HPC systems. For the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) application, OVALL is up to 2.7x (8192 cores, system A) or 5.6x (4800 cores, system B) faster compared to built-in MPI on peak performance.
