The widespread deployment of IoT systems in the real world today has enabled the generation and collection of an enormous amount of sensor times series. One of the important mining techniques to extract patterns from time series is temporal pattern mining (TPM). Unlike the sequential pattern mining, TPM adds an additional temporal dimension, i.e., time intervals, into extracted patterns, making them more informative. However, adding the extra temporal dimension into patterns results in an additional exponential factor to the growth of the search space, and thus, significantly increases the mining complexity. Current TPM approaches work sequentially, therefore, cannot scale to large datasets. In this paper, we propose distributed Hierarchical Pattern Graph TPM (DHPG-TPM), the first distributed solution that supports large-scale TPM using the leading distributed platform Apache Spark. Moreover, DHPG-TPM employs efficient data structures, distributed bitmap and distributed Hierarchical Pattern Graph that are carefully designed to work efficiently in a distributed environment to enable fast computations of support and confidence. To address the exponential search space of TPM, we design effective distributed pruning techniques based on the Apriori principle and the transitivity property of temporal relations to reduce the search space while minimizing the communication overhead between the cluster nodes. We conduct extensive experiments on real-world and synthetic datasets, showing that DHPG-TPM outperforms the sequential baselines and scales to very large datasets.

In this paper, we introduce the design of an electronic system for automatic control of water pump motors that are used at homes to fill the overhead tanks with municipal water (piped water). The electric signals generated by the water flow sensor and water detector are feed to the microcontroller. Microcontroller process these detected signals to confirm whether water is present in the pipe and to calculate the water flow rate, to activate the relay that controls the switching of the water pump motor. The motor is switched ON if the water is detected in the pipe and its flow rate is greater than the critical flow rate if any one of the two conditions is not met then the motor is switched OFF. This work will be very helpful for people who rely on municipal water. As municipal water comes at random times in a day (in India), this work helps them to make their life easier.

As inertial sensors have matured and sensors that pick up the wearer's vital signs are steadily improving, I will focus in this talk on the underlying information that can be deduced from the vast array of sensor signals that is currently embedded in the latest generations of smartwatches. Especially the fact that smartwatches allow the long-term and continuous monitoring of their wearer's state opens up a plethora of medical applications. Through examples from recent studies, where wristwatches can spot epileptic seizures, stress, smoking episodes, sleep, and activity, I will try to illustrate why more future users will not want to put their watches off.

In this paper we present four new algorithms for solving Minimum Base Problem (MBP) which is known to be NP-complete. The problem arises in wide or dense sensor networks in which a huge number of sensors provides a highly redundant source of information and should be reduced for further processing. In many cases a proper selection of nonredundant subset of the set of all sensors is reasonable both from economical point of view and the computational complexity of processing vast input data by software or hardware. Both exact and approximate algorithms are to be developed and applied for this task. In addition a hybrid metaheuristic shown.

Autonomous systems are able to make decisions and potentially take actions without direct human intervention, which requires some knowledge about the system and its environment as well as goal-oriented reasoning. In computer systems, one can derive such behavior from the concept of a rational agent with autonomy (“control over its own actions”), reactivity (“react to events from the environment”), proactivity (“act on its own initiative”), and sociality (“interact with other agents”) as fundamental properties \n[1]\n. Autonomous systems will undoubtedly pervade into our everyday lives, and we will find them in a variety of domains and applications including robotics, transportation, health care, communications, and entertainment to name a few. \nThe articles in this month’s special issue cover concepts and fundamentals, architectures and techniques, and applications and case studies in the exciting area of self-awareness in autonomous systems.

A smart city has changed the city landscape with the assistance of ICT, and sensor-enabled internet of things (IoT) devices. The development of a ubiquitous connected source environment is to be complicated and global to improve service performance delivery, cost-effectiveness, and using all capabilities of technology resources. For gaining those benefits in the smart city, it is necessary to design a capable ICT architecture. The ICT architecture in the smart city must provide the facility to organize all technology resources, the produced data, network communication orchestration, and services in the large scale of smart cities. In today's smart cities, three main different ICT architecture proposals are available, Centralized, Decentralized -to-Centralized, and distributed -to -Centralized. Centralized ICT architectures are designed based on Cloud technologies. The Decentralized -to-Centralized and distributed -to-Centralized ICT architectures are using the multiple facilities from the joined benefits of edge to Cloud technologies orchestration. In this paper, we first describe these three ICT architectures in smart cities. Besides, we present our proposed Decentralized-to-Centralized and distributed -to-Centralized ICT architectures in smart cities. Second, we show how our ICT architecture can be beneficial for Large-Scale ICT management through different use case studies. Finally, we describe the advantages of our ICT architecture and discuss challenges.
Assembly systems must provide maximum flexibility qualified by organization and technology to offer cost-compliant performance features to differentiate themselves from competitors in buyers' markets. By mobilizat...
