Intelligent agriculture has the potential of increasing sustainability and productivity in the field of agriculture and livestock, through efficient and precise use of resources. Thus, this technology gives the possibility of promoting growth in developing countries through automation and control of repetitive farming activities, such as monitoring the level of water and feed in the feeders, which allows farmers to save time. However, the implementation of an automatic feed and water level control system in a livestock enclosure requires a large investment in silo scales, which may be too expensive for an SME. Thanks to the evolution of IoT devices, it is possible to reduce the cost of this implementation while integrating new functionalities and interactions through the interconnection of devices with cloud solutions. This work presents a new system that allows to monitor the quantity and quality of food and water in a silo by estimating volume in real time. Moreover, it has an additional functionality;temperature and humidity estimation in a livestock enclosure. The hardware system will be managed by a multi-agent system in charge of the processes of managing the data, managing the quantity of food and water supplied to each feeder. The use of a multi-agent architecture allows for the development of a distributed solution that provides great possibilities for future analysis, for example through a massive data analysis. The case study results demonstrate the effectiveness of the system, it has provided the ideal amount of feed and water to the animals, controlling the quality of grain and water, reducing the number of colics caused by overfeeding. In addition, the time the farmer must spend on the farm reduces considerably.

Continuously monitoring sensor readings is an important building block for many IoT applications. The literature offers resourceful methods that minimize the amount of communication required for continuous monitoring, where Geometric Monitoring (GM) is one of the most generally applicable ones. However, GM has unique communication requirements that require specialized network protocols to unlock the full potential of the algorithm. In this work, we show how application and protocol co-design can improve the real-life performance of GM, making it an application of practical value for real IoT deployments. We orchestrate the communication of GM to utilize the properties of a state-of-the-art wireless protocol (Crystal) that relies on synchronous transmissions and is designed for aperiodic traffic, as needed by GM. We bridge the existing gap between the capabilities of the protocol and the requirements of GM, especially in the case of periods of heavy communication. We do so by introducing an in-network aggregation technique relying on latent opportunities for aggregation that we exploit in Crystal's design, allowing us to reliably monitor duplicate sensitive aggregate functions, such as sum, average or variance. Our results from testbed experiments with a publicly available dataset show that the combination of GM and Crystal results in a very small duty-cycle, a 2.2x - 3.2x improvement compared to the baseline and up to 10x compared to previous work. We also show that our in-network aggregation technique reduces the duty-cycle by up to 1.38x.

Self-driving network is an emerging network automation design principle for building next generation autonomous networked systems based on machine learning algorithms trained on real-time experiences, i.e., network state measurements. However, existing network measurement techniques are designed on centralized architecture leading to considerable control overheads in wireless networks. In this work, we designed and implemented a distributed In-band network telemetry system (S-INT) and Wireless Network Operating System (WINOS) for self-driving wireless networks. On one hand, our proposed S-INT system significantly reduces network measurement overhead by embedding telemetry into flowing data traffic with a specialized packet header. WINOS system, on the other hand, seamlessly integrates programmable measurement, i.e., the proposed S-INT framework, with the programmable network control, while providing rich APIs to facilitate fast implementation of machine learning algorithms for intelligent and distributed network control. To show the effectiveness of our proposed system design, we implemented a multi-agent reinforcement routing as a traffic engineering application to optimize end-to-end delay performance. To the best of our knowledge, our implementation is the first one in the literature that enables multi-agent reinforcement learning algorithm to run on an actual physical wireless multi hop network.

The advances in computers and communications in the ongoing Fourth industrial revolution have not been matched by corresponding advances in the power grid. Fifty-year-old problems of the grid remain, such as uncontrolled blackouts, lack of automation, and uncertainty about replacing aging equipment. In the Ukraine war, attacks on the power grid have drawn attention to limiting spreading blackouts. CTs and PTs for monitoring high voltage lines remain large and expensive structures. Human operators are required at substations, and much of their decisions are taken over the phone. New developments in sensors, communications, smart electronics are today allowing a smarter more automated grid. Aging transformers and generators nearing end-of-life can be better monitored and replaced. Load shedding can be smart and pre-planned, so that low-priority feeders, neighborhoods, households and equipment are disconnected first. A blackout from cascaded tripping of generators can be arrested by remote disconnection of loads equivalent to the lost generation. The new smart grid may be based on the structure of the internet, with distributed and non-centralized sensors and computations. The multiple inputs from sensors and various operation conditions are an excellent candidate for AI. Methods have been proposed here for prioritizing and shedding loads automatically and remotely before overstressed generators are tripped. A disconnection of a generator is simulated in the ieee 36 bus, following shedding of an equivalent amount of load, so as to arrest the blackout. According to existing trends, improved smart grids will become a major growth area in the coming decades.

In context to advancements in technologies, there exist a variety of sensors that are incorporated within the fields for obtaining vital as well as auxiliary information. Among various areas of implementation for Wireless sensor Networks (WSN), agriculture is one such domain that has experienced revolutionary advancements over the past few years. Favorable outcome for agricultural practices completely depends on correct identification and selection of sensor. In order to administer the agricultural issues in today's date, deployment of sensors has become a necessity within the domain. The basic vision of this research article is to shed light on various agricultural sensors that are available in today's date followed by proposing a framework that suggests the precise amount of fertilizer requirement by the field after accessing various associated parameters. The study proposes Requirement Based Decision Support System (RbDSS) after evaluating various parameters, i.e., Soil moisture (Sm), Soil temperature (St), Soil humidity (Sh), Volumetric Water Content (VWC), and Electrical conductivity (EC). The results of the experimentation depicts decrease in the consumption of fertilizers by 24.68 %. © 2020 ieee.

Cyber resilience has become a strategic point of information security in recent years. In the face of complex attack means and severe internal and external threats, it is difficult to achieve 100% protection against information systems. It is necessary to enhance the continuous service of information systems based on network resiliency and take appropriate compensation measures in case of protection failure, to ensure that the mission can still be achieved under attack. This paper combs the definition, cycle, and state of cyber resilience, and interprets the cyber resiliency engineering framework, to better understand cyber resilience. In addition, we also discuss the evolution of security architecture and analyze the impact of cyber resiliency on security architecture. Finally, the strategies and schemes of enhancing cyber resilience represented by zero trust and endogenous security are discussed.

With the growing interest in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) complemented by its high functionality and easy accessibility, UAVs are now applied to a variety of fields from delivery services to military surveillance. As much as it holds potential in various positive applications, UAV-associated threats on sensitive facilities and public safety with its increased involvement in illegal activities and terrorist attacks have triggered active research in Counter-UAV (CUAV) systems. The velocity of UAVs has a large impact on the collision distance between UAVs and facilities of importance, and with malicious intent, it could cause a disastrous outcome. In this paper, we propose a UAV threat assessment algorithm that classifies the threat level of UAVs based on the velocity change and distance from the facility of importance. The proposed algorithm was tested and compared with our previous algorithm through simulation. From the simulation results, we were able to confirm that analyzing the velocity and the type of velocity variation of a UAV based on its distance from the target can improve the accuracy of UAV threat assessment compared to our previous study that only utilized the different type of velocity variations. The results of this research are expected to be utilized in CUAV systems on predicting the threat of hostile UAVs and securing mitigation time to the posed threat, and research should further be continued on the velocity factor of UAV threat analysis.

distributed applications enhance their execution by using remote resources. However, distributed execution incurs communication, synchronization, fault-handling, and security overheads. If these overheads are not offset by the yet larger execution enhancement, distribution becomes counterproductive. For maximum benefits, the distribution's granularity cannot be too fine or too crude;it must be just right. In this paper, we present a novel approach to re-architecting distributed applications, whose distribution granularity has turned ill-conceived. To adjust the distribution of such applications, our approach automatically reshapes their remote invocations to reduce aggregate latency and resource consumption. To that end, our approach insources a remote functionality for local execution, splits it into separate functions to profile their performance, and determines the optimal redistribution based on a cost function. Redistribution strategies combine separate functions into single remotely invocable units. To automate all the required program transformations, our approach introduces a series of domain specific automatic refactorings. We have concretely realized our approach as an analysis and automatic program transformation infrastructure for the important domain of full-stack JavaScript applications, and evaluated its value, utility, and performance on a series of real-world cross-platform mobile apps. Our evaluation results indicate that our approach can become a useful tool for software developers charged with the challenges of re-architecting distributed applications.

In order to ensure the safety and reliability of the cross core piezomagnetic resistance sensor, the finite element static analysis on the main structure and shell of the sensor was carried out by ANSYS Workbench software, and the stress and deformation distribution of each structure under different external force conditions were studied. The modal analysis of the main structure of the sensor was carried out to study the dynamic characteristics. The natural frequencies and corresponding vibration modes of the first six modes were obtained. The results show that under the given conditions, the sensor structure met the strength requirement, and the stress was concentrated in the groove of its shell. With the increase of external force, the maximum equivalent stress and total deformation of the main structure and shell of the sensor increased linearly, and the deformation of the shell changed rapidly;The calculated natural frequencies of the sensor under different orderscan provide a theoretical basis for its structural dynamic design. © 2020 ieee.

The problem of data transmission in wireless sensor networks (WSN), with real time guarantees, is an issue that has important references in the international scientific community, but that still does not have a solution that can completely satisfy this requirement [1]. Therefore, real time data transmission with WSN is considered an open issue with many possibilities of improvement. In this sense, this document presents a new procedure to ensure this type of transmission with WSN, particularly from the planning of the resources available for data transmission in the network, taking as a reference the ieee 802.15.4 standard. © 2020 The Authors.
