Brain tumors are one of the life-threatening forms of cancer. Previous studies have classified brain tumors using deep neural networks. In this paper, we perform the later task using a collaborative deep learning technique, more specifically split learning. Split learning allows collaborative learning via neural networks splitting into two (or more) parts, a client-side network and a server-side network. The client-side is trained to a specific layer named as the cut layer. Then, the rest of the training is resumed on the server-side network. Vertical distribution, a method for distributing data among organizations, was implemented where several hospitals hold different attributes of information for the same set of patients. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first paper to implement both split learning and vertical distribution for brain tumor classification. Using both techniques, we were able to achieve train and test accuracy greater than 90% and 70%, respectively.

This paper contributes a method designed to enable autonomous distributed 3D nuclear radiation field mapping. The algorithm uses a single radiation sensor and a sequence of spatially distributed and robotically acquired radiation measurements across a discretized 3D grid to derive a radiation gradient. The derived gradient is probabilistically propagated to unknown components of the map to further guide a curiosity-driven path planner by identifying the next most radiologically informative point given available information. To demonstrate the method, we develop a resilient micro flying robot capable of autonomous GPS-denied navigation that integrates a Thallium–doped Cesium Iodide (CsI(Tl)) scintillator and Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPm) combined with custom–built pulse counting circuitry. A set of experimental studies is presented inside an indoor facility within which actual radioactive uranium ore sources have been distributed.

The continuous evolution of additive manufacturing allows to produce innovative objects that are adopted in several diverse fields of applications. This trend can be further enhanced by the spreading of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) paradigm which ensures effective interconnection among distributed, possibly heterogeneous, components and allows remote access by means of commercial devices such as PCs, tablets and smartphones. In this paper, we address a large additive manufacturing project which effectively exploits an IIoT architecture by embedding sensors (temperature, humidity, light, etc.) within the produced artifacts, so that they can make available diverse measurement data collected during both the production process (in real-time) and the subsequent lifetime of the artifacts, enabling further off-line analyses. This clearly represents an innovative and challenging feature that needs to be adequately investigated. To this regard, after describing the automation system of the project, we focus on the wireless system that implements the collection of measurements by the sensors within the artifacts. The design process led to the selection of a Low Power Wide Area Network, namely LoRaWAN, as a suitable communication solution. In this respect, we present here the tests performed to assess the actual feasibility and performance of such network in this specific application context. The obtained results are encouraging, since the sensors within the artifacts revealed able to exchange the required measurement data with the automation system in an effective way.

Content sharing via device to device (D2D) communication is considered as a promising method to improve the performance of cellular network. However, in D2D networks, the placement of multimedia content is still an complex and urgent issue. Hence, it is significant to figure out a fine-grained content collaboration placement and delivery strategy in D2D networks. For the efficient utilization of the storage and downloading capacity of user devices, we introduce a distributed content segment sharing strategy. In order to improve QoE with limited network resource, such strategy provides users multimedia service with differentiated quality. Then, we formulate QoE-driven D2D content segment placement with service differentiation as a submodular maximization problem, and a polynomial time algorithm is proposed. Simulation results shows that proposed algorithm outperforms the algorithms without distributed content segments sharing mechanism in terms of QoE. It also demonstrates that proposed algorithm has better on the performance of cache content diversity and fairness. © 2020 ieee.

In recent years, wireless sensor networks have been used in a wide range of indoor localization-based applications. Although promising, the existing works are dependent on a large number of anchor nodes to achieve localizations, which brings the issues of increasing of the cost and additional maintenance. Inspired by the cross-technology communication, an emerging technique that enables direct communication among heterogeneous wireless devices, we propose an anchor-free distributed method, which leverages the installed Wi-Fi APs to calculate the distance instead of traditional anchor nodes. More specifically, for the asymmetric coverage of Wi-Fi and ZigBee nodes, we first design a progressive method, where the first unknown node estimates its location based on two Wi-Fi APs and a sink node, then once achieving its position, it acts as the alternative sink node of the next hop. This process is repeated until the new members can obtain their positions. Second, as a low-power technology, ZigBee signal may be submerged in strong signals such as Wi-Fi. To overcome this problem, a prime number is deployed to be the Wi-Fi broadcasting period based on the numerical analysis theory. Among lots of prime numbers, we have the opportunity to select an appropriate one with the relatively small packet collisions. Last, numerical simulations and experiments are performed to evaluate the proposal. The evaluation results show that the proposal can achieve decimeter level accuracy without deploying any anchor node. Moreover, the proposal demonstrates the anti-interference ability in the crowded open spectrum environment.

The number of distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks using IoT devices has increased in recent years. Reasons for this growth include the security limitations of IoT devices, the number of devices, and their geographic distribution. Developing mechanisms to detect and mitigate DDoS attacks in this scenario is a current challenge in the area of network security. In the literature review, it is seen that recent academic works still tries to find the best way to combat this type of threat, with proposals that need to be tested against modern datasets that contain a diversity of modern denial of service attacks. This work proposes a detection module for an IoT controller that uses Machine Learning (ML) techniques to classify network traffic. The system was designed in the Software-Defined Networks (SDN) context and evaluated on an emulated platform using three actual and well-know datasets present in the literature. The results, at a sampling rate (S-R) of 20% of network traffic, show a high precision (P-R), above 93%, a low false alarm rate (FA(R)), and detection rate (D-R) of attacks above 96%, using a low profile emulated device.

This research focused on developing accuracy to determine the fire point of a building using Wireless sensor Network (WSN) which had been spread unevenly and in motion. At present, the constraints faced by WSN that are distributed unevenly are the weak level of accuracy of the data obtained, which can be caused by the weakness of the WSN itself, namely resource limitations in the form of bandwidth, power, delay, latency, and computing. Therefore, an intelligent algorithm that functions to process data based on the unevenly distributed WSN was needed to get better accuracy in building fire determination information. This study used 2 types of algorithms, namely K-Nearest Neighbor(k-NN) for the grouping of positions from the scattered WSN, and the Decision Tree algorithm to determine the outcome of a building fire decision based on each of the grouping results. From testing of 20 WSNs that implemented the 2 algorithms mentioned earlier, the results obtained were in the form of an accuracy rate of 70% and an average error of 30%. © 2020 ieee.

Wireless energy charging has emerged as a very promising technology for prolonging sensor lifetime in Wireless Rechargeable sensor Networks (WRSNs). Existing studies focused mainly on the 'one-to-one' charging scheme that a sensor can be charged by a single mobile charger at each time, this charging scheme however suffers from poor charging scalability and inefficiency. Recently, another charging scheme - the 'multiple-to-one' charging scheme that allows multiple sensors to be charged simultaneously by a single charger, becomes dominant and can mitigate charging scalability and improve the charging efficiency. Most research studies on this latter scheme focused on the use of a mobile charger to charge multiple sensors simultaneously. However, for large scale WRSNs, it is insufficient to deploy just a single mobile charger to charge many lifetime-critical sensors, and consequently sensor expiration durations will increase dramatically. Instead, in order to charge as many as lifetime-critical sensors, the use of multiple mobile chargers for charging sensors can speed up sensor charging significantly, thereby reducing their expiration durations and improving the monitoring quality of WRSNs. However, this poses great challenges to schedule multiple mobile chargers for sensor charging at the same time such that the longest delay among the chargers is minimized due to multiple critical constraints. One such an important constraint in multiple mobile chargers is that each sensor cannot be charged by more than one mobile charger at each time, otherwise, the sensor cannot receive any energy from either of the chargers. In this paper we address this challenge by first formulating a novel longest delay minimization problem that is NP-hard. We then devise the very first approximation algorithm with a provable approximation ratio for the problem. Measurements carried out in the field require power consumption planning so sufficient amount of measurements can be carried out without battery recharge. If instantaneous results report is expected, then communication and data storage, processing resources also have to be proportional to the load expected. Latency of the data transmission, processing and reporting should be maintained within acceptable limits. It communicates with cloud service using the smartphone as intermediate node. Paper presents the analysis of the power consumption and data latency versus operational modes. Models have been developed, accounting the data acquisition algorithm and data transmission protocols. Analysis results can be used to estimate the sensor and gateway service life from one charge or maximum time between measurement initiation and report delivery. It was found that both sensor and gateway could sustain their operation from one charge over one day operation. As of latency, it was found that single core single server solution can maintain just few users simultaneously. More servers are needed for larger users pool: e.g. 200 servers are required to service 10000 users.

Hall Magnetic sensors for particles detection have been explored over the past decades. It has been mentioned that the detection has the potential in the applications of biomedicine and environmental monitor. In biomedicine, numerical researches of Hall sensor have been achieved for detecting bio-markers magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). On the contrary, Hall sensor for environmental monitor is seldom investigated. This paper carries out a pioneering investigation on Hall sensors for air quality detection. A modelling base on finite element method (FEM) software COMSOL is established to quantify the ability of Hall sensors in the measurement of micrometer-sized magnetite particles distributed in the air. Meanwhile, as the development of environmental magnetism in recent years, the modelling has the potential to provide the first protype of portable sensors for the detection of microsized magnetite particles in the air in the future.
