We consider a point-to-point wireless commu-nication with a multilevel quadrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM) and energy constraints. In this context, this paper addresses the problem of the spectral and energy efficiency trade-off for a realistic system model. Our researches focus on the power amplifier model, which depends on transmission power, drain efficiency and peak-to-average ratio (PAR). While they have been extensively studied in previous research, far too little attention has been paid to the influence of PAR and drain efficiency in the spectral and energy efficiency trade-off. This study provides new insights into the estimation of the system energy consumption and the choice of the optimal spec-tral efficiency while introducing a realistic system model based on a hardware-dependent power amplifier energy. Furthermore, we investigate the influence of PAR and drain efficiency parameters on this trade-off. Our study reveals that this hardware-dependent system model plays a significant role in energy saving, and that the induced reduction of spectral efficiency goes in the direction sought by embedded systems. Moreover, our research underlines the importance of considering the drain efficiency exponent as having a real impact on the energy consumption.

Complete and up-to-date map data plays a critical role in many contemporary and future applications such as autonomous driving level 3+. In terms of crowdsourcing, a data basis can be created that meets these stringent requirements without dedicating additional resources. With ROADR, we present a holistic platform to gather knowledge about a road network and its properties to further enhance either semantic or syntactic information. The privacy-by-design platform uses a smartphone application to collect crowdsourced data and performs local machine learning. Only less sensitive data is forwarded to a centralized platform that aggregates and processes information from the crowd to provide value-added information found in a vehicle's trajectory. Also, the paper provides a thorough analysis of the respective Floating Phone Data indicating two exemplary events, namely traffic light and traffic circles. Our evaluation shows that the recognition is done in real-time but in a resource-efficient way.

There are more and more researches in intelligent tire base on safety issues. Tire pressure monitor system (TPMS) can be called an application of intelligent tires that are currently a very popular tire monitoring device, it provides pressure and temperature information for drivers. The information can let drivers understand their tire’s status through simple information. Not only pressure and temperature can affect safety, but also tire’s use mileage. The tire wear has some relation to safety. The mileage has been defined by tire spec. The different tires have different specs and the tire wear status cannot be defined clearly. The wear status is hard to get that is because the vehicle condition, use scenario and situation are complicated. Drivers can’t understand how many miles did the tire use and what status the tire. This paper proposed a method to estimate and monitor tire mileage and wear base on simple sensors. G-sensor and hall sensors are common sensors in applications. The method will use these simple sensors to implement the method. Drivers can accord information to evaluate the tire status and decide the timing to replace the tire. It can help drivers to increase safety during the drive and provide a solution to support intelligent tire function.

Client mobility is a fundamental challenge when accessing the current Internet, especially in the context of vehicular networking because of its intermittent connectivity nature. Meanwhile, today's network applications are evolving from host-to-host communication to content retrieval, and fostering new designs of Information-centric networking (ICN) protocol and system optimized towards this end. In this paper, we present SOFTSTAGE, a client instructed ICN-based network layer function that effectively manages the edge caching to perform reactive content staging to improve vehicular content delivery without any assumption about the client mobility pattern. Experimental results based on an implementation in eXpressive Internet Architecture (XIA) shows that SOFTSTAGE achieves up to 10x throughput gain in vehicular networking environments.

Yet, in many situations, dynamic scaling can be used to meet formulated runtime targets despite significant performance *** paper presents Enel, a novel dynamic scaling approach that uses message propagation on an attributed graph to model dataflow jobs and, thus, allows for deriving effective rescaling decisions. For this, Enel incorporates descriptive properties that capture the respective execution context, considers statistics from individual dataflow tasks, and propagates predictions through the job graph to eventually find an optimized new scale-out. Our evaluation of Enel with four iterative Spark jobs shows that our approach is able to identify effective rescaling actions, reacting for instance to node failures, and can be reused across different execution contexts.
