We witness a paradigm shift where entities such as software applications, people, businesses and service providers increasingly interact in virtual rather than physical environments, such as social media, social commerce, and the metaverses. A key issue that emerges in such environments is how one entity can trust another. Here, the concept of trust is considered as a meta-requirement, that is, the level of belief a service requestor has that a service provider will provide the service in a way that meets the requestor's expectations. We refer to the service offering entities as service providers (SPs) and the service requesting entities as service clients (SCs). In this paper, we propose a technique that allows for evaluating trust and assigning reputation to various service providers by considering first their ability to fulfill their clients' expectations or policies, and second the reputation other service clients have, when acting as recommenders for the aforementioned service providers. In this work, service clients and service providers are considered as virtual entities that coordinate with each other, and may include physical users, avatars, micro-services, software agents, smart contracts or any other distributed inter-networked resource, without making any assumptions as to what a service client or a service provider entity is as long as it participates in an interaction.

Internet of Things (IoT) Wearable technology plays a crucial role in assisting the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD), and an efficient model for auxiliary diagnosis of the severity of PD can help reduce the workload for doctors. However, due to the influence of data collection environments and annotators, noisy label data is inevitable, which may have a negative impact on modeling the severity of PD. To address the above challenges, on the one hand, we collected a large number of activity signal data of Parkinson's patients in free-living environments, and on the other hand, we proposed an efficient PD stage assessment framework, which includes a noisy label processing method to alleviate the noisy label negative impact. Specifically, we collected signal data from 15 healthy controls and 68 PD patients through 12 activities, and then we proposed a framework for noisy label detection and correction. The experimental results on real PD data sets demonstrated that the proposed framework achieve 75.9% accuracy in PD stage assessment and significantly improve the classification performance of different types of basic classifiers, which is better than other noisy label detection algorithms and other PD stage assessment frameworks. Overall, in this work, we focus on modeling PD severity in free-living environments using a single wearable sensor and reducing the negative impact of noisy label data to better help PD patients manage the disease. © 2023 ieee.

Over the past few years, there has been a noticeable transition from centralized Industrial Control systems (ICS) to distributed systems. However, the challenges of distributed systems (e.g., communication delays and packet loss) can give rise to undesired situations like deadlocks, which malicious actors may target. To address such conditions, implementing run-time security monitoring can ensure these systems' reliable and secure operation. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach for run-time security monitoring for distributed ICS, extending previous works that focus on autonomous and centralized systems. Our approach makes it possible to specify physical and cyber resources and their changing limitations within a distributed environment. By doing so, our approach offers a valuable contribution to ICS security by tackling limitations introduced by distributed ICS. Furthermore, it provides an efficient mechanism for monitoring the security of these systems in real time. © 2023 ieee.

The data-driven industry has benefited greatly from the edge computing platform. The general architecture places data storage and computation close to the source of the data. Recent industrial applications and machine learning environments necessitate fast data transmission to a centralized data center for further processing. As a result, clients expect low latency when collecting and processing the data. Data processing can utilize edge computing in three different ways. Bots, distributed denial of service attacks, artificial intelligence and machine learning are all examples of DDoS attacks. The goal of DDoS is to impede the availability of network-connected systems. They generate excessive traffic to the targeted servers will deplete the computational and communication resources. Edge computing provides substantial assistance to lightweight devices to complete a complex task. According to the statistics, the attacks are distiibuted denial of service, malware, side channel attacks, authorization and authentication attacks. This research work examines the distributed denial of service attacks on cloud and fog computing, which are similar to edge computing. They offer what appear to be effective solutions to the threat. This study also discusses about the current research challenges and future directions in this field. © 2023 ieee.

To keep up with today's dense metropolitan areas and their accompanying traffic problems, a growing number of towns are looking for more advanced and swift urban taxi drones. The safety parameters that must be taken into consideration may be the most important element in the widespread use of such technology. Most recent aviation mishaps have happened during the landing phase, making this a particularly important safety consideration for Vertical and/or Short Take-Off and Landing (V/STOL) drones. In this study, we focused on improving the fault tolerance of the processor architectures used by the predecessors of Autonomous Landing Guidance Assistance systems (ALGAS), which in turn improves their decision-making capabilities. Furthermore, this is achieved by proposing a fault-tolerant processing architecture that depends on the Gamma Distribution Sliding Window Unit (GDSWU). This proposed GDSWU has been designed completely using VHDL, and the targeted FPFA was the Intel Cyclone V 5CGXFC9D6F27C7 chip. The GDSWU could operate at a maximum frequency of 369.96 MHz, as calculated by the synthesis results of the INTEL Quartus Prime program. The suggested GDSWU core only requires 20.36 mW for dynamic core and I/O power consumption.

In this paper, we introduce PIMAP, an IoT-based system for continuous, real-time patient monitoring that operates in a fully autonomous fashion, i.e. without the need for human intervention. To our knowledge, PIMAP is the first open system that integrates the basic patient monitoring workflow for continuous and autonomous operation and includes sensed data collection, storage, analysis, and real-time visualization. PIMAP's open design allows it to integrate a variety of sensors (custom and off-the-shelf), analytics, and visualization. Other novel features of PIMAP include its deployment flexibility, i.e., its ability to be deployed in different configurations depending on the specific application needs, setting, and resources, as well as PIMAP's self-profiling and self-tuning capabilities. While PIMAP can be applied to various patient monitoring applications and settings, in this paper we focus on the unsolved problem of preventing pressure injuries.

Rapid advances in high-throughput sequencers have made it possible to obtain large amounts of whole genome data quickly and inexpensively. As the amount of data increases, the increase in computation time has become a serious problem. One of the main causes of this problem is file I/O performance. Most pipelines do not implement file I/O suitable for distributed file systems, which are common storage systems in parallel computers used for large-scale analysis. In this study, we developed an I/O system adapted to distributed file systems. In the proposed system, storage access frequency was suppressed by I/O buffers, and thread parallelization by OpenMP was employed. Many real-world applications can be formulated as multi-agent cooperation problems, such as network packet routing and coordination of autonomous vehicles. The emergence of deep reinforcement learning (DRL) provides a promising approach for multi-agent cooperation through the interaction of the agents and environments. However, traditional DRL solutions suffer from the high dimensions of multiple agents with continuous action space during policy search. Besides, the dynamicity of agents' policies makes the training non-stationary. To tackle the issues, we propose a hierarchical reinforcement learning approach with high-level decision-making and low-level individual control for efficient policy search. In particular, the cooperation of multiple agents can be learned in high-level discrete action space efficiently. At the same time, the low-level individual control can be reduced to single-agent reinforcement learning. In addition to hierarchical reinforcement learning, we propose an opponent modeling network to model other agents' policies during the learning process. In contrast to end-to-end DRL approaches, our approach reduces the learning complexity by decomposing the overall task into sub-tasks in a hierarchical way. To evaluate the efficiency of our approach, we conduct a real-world case study in the cooperative lane change scenario. Both simulation and real-world experiments show the superiority of our approach in the collision rate and convergence speed.

Context-awareness is becoming more relevant for smarter modern-day applications. With billions of IoT devices able to monitor a plethora of parameters in near real-time, inferring contextual information at scale while maintaining adequate Quality of Context and delivering in time has been non-trivial for state-of-the-art centralized Context Management systems. Further, handling complex situations and entity relations based on local awareness are areas that still need investigation. In this paper, we propose a novel edge-computing based architecture for distributed contextual intelligence systems that could address these research problems. First, we critically evaluate the current state-of-the-art in context-awareness and establish the necessity of a distributed architecture. Then, our proposed architecture is introduced along with the protocols and algorithms accompanied by real-world examples. The paper also highlights the future direction for research work in the area. © 2023 ieee.

Despite rapid developments in quantum computing, current systems remain limited in practical applications due to their constrained qubit counts and quality. Technologies such as superconducting, trapped ions, and neutral atom quantum computing are progressing towards fault tolerance. However, they face challenges in scalability and control. Recent efforts have concentrated on multi-node quantum systems that connect smaller quantum devices to execute larger circuits. Future demonstrations aim to utilize quantum channels for system coupling, but current methods often resort to classical communication with circuit cutting techniques. This involves dividing large circuits into smaller subcircuits and reconstructing them after execution. Existing cutting methods face challenges such as lengthy search times with increasing numbers of qubits and gates. Moreover, they often struggle to efficiently use resources across various worker configurations in a multi-node system. To address these challenges, we propose FitCut, a novel approach that transforms quantum circuits into weighted graphs. FitCut employs a community-based, bottom-up approach to cut circuits based on resource constraints such as qubit counts on each worker. Additionally, it includes a scheduling algorithm that optimizes resource utilization across workers. Implemented with Qiskit and evaluated extensively, FitCut significantly outperforms existing tools such as Qiskit Circuit Knitting Toolbox, reducing time costs by factors ranging from 3 to 2000 and improving resource utilization rates by up to 388% on the worker side, leading to a system-wide improvement of 286% in accumulated circuit depth.
