Mobile Edge computing (MEC) places computing and storage resources on the network's edge, which opens the door for implementing an entirely new set of delay-sensitive and compute-intensive applications in constrained IoT devices. Nevertheless, from the perspective of an IoT device, using MEC introduces several challenges that need to be addressed. One is the proper execution and resource utilization of device-native and edge-dependent tasks, especially when considering multi-task edge applications. Current real-time schedulers do not contemplate factors inherent to the nature of MEC, such as shared resource utilization, dynamic execution site migrations, the influence of remote computing, etc. Therefore, this paper introduces an agent embedded in IoT devices to provide real-time schedulers with mobile edge computing awareness. Moreover, the performance of the proposed solution is assessed by running two multi-task edge applications in the smart vehicles domain, depicting a considerable task throughput enhancement when compared to existing real-time schedulers.

real-time and accurate position estimation is critical for various multi-robot applications and serves as a prerequisite for location-based multi-sensor data analysis. However, it is often impeded by energy, sensing, and processing limitations. In this work, we study the problem of information-seeking in localization and navigation in multi-agent systems, which aims to navigate mobile agents while reducing position errors. We formalize information-seeking as reducing spatial uncertainty and introduce an efficient motion controller based on artificial potential fields superimposing attractive, repulsive, and information-seeking forces. We evaluate the effect of information-seeking on localization and mission planning in a simulation study with non-collaborative and collaborative localization approaches.

The single-path code paradigm [1] has been conceived to generate real-time code that is highly temporally predicable, making worst-case execution time analysis trivial. The software/hardware architecture proposed in [2], which only supports a time-triggered message interface, builds on the singlepath code paradigm and static scheduling of tasks. The presented execution model in that paper yields software that is time-predictable by construction, and therefore supports timepredictable communication in a networked system. In this paper, we present the dual-path code paradigm that extends the execution model presented in [2]. In particular, this paradigm improves schedulability of an end-system, through the notion of observable event [3], [4], and supports energy efficient scheduling of regularly polling tasks at these end-systems, by exploiting the 1-1 correspondence between (input) events and (output) responses of tasks. The dual-path code paradigm is therefore particularly suitable for the construction of timedeterministic and efficient networked hard real-timeembeddedsystems.

There is a growing interest in increasing the flexibility and the mobility of industrial infrastructures to support novel industrial applications. To support this change, industrial networks must provide real-time guarantees while integrating a great variety of traffic over a cohesive network infrastructure. Specifically, there is special interest in the integration of wired and wireless communications in the industrial domain. We present a solution that integrates a time-Sensitive Networking Ethernet network with a low-power 6TiSCH IoT network and discuss the implementation alternatives and their implications on delay and resource consumption. The main goal is to experimentally identify the research challenges and necessary enhancements for interoperability between constrained battery-driven wireless communication with the time sensitive wired networks.
