In this paper a detailed insight into implementation of selected control theory algorithms is shown. These algorithms have been successively implemented using an object oriented programming language while considering a computation cost optimization and preserving the overall code readability. The resulting product, a form of a numerical computing library, can be afterwards found suitable for various control oriented engineering applications, especially those having limited hardware resources (e.g. embeddedsystems). Finally, the whole implemented framework was deployed in a STM32 micro-controller based and real-time application designed for temperature control of a physical system.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is often characterised by distal tremor, affecting the patient's hands and preventing them from performing daily tasks. There has been an increase in tremor suppression orthoses in the last decade, specifically containing active components that employ bio-signals for closedloop control. However, most sensors tend to focus on the motion output for tremor detection, which is prone to inaccuracies and can hinder the responsiveness of the system. With the integration of machine learning in real-time tremor detection, this would enable the analysis of more complex signals, such as the muscle activation patterns of the subject's forearm, which would give us indications on tremorgenic states based on the contractions rather than the resulting kinematics. This study therefore investigates the use of mechanomyography (MMG) as a sensing modality for muscle activity, and its capacity to detect tremor in a real-time setting for applications in tremor suppression devices. Wrist tremor is induced through transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, which enables the assessment of this approach as a proxy to PD tremor, and the ability of the MMG to work in conjunction with stimulation. Results show that the MMG-based algorithm was capable of effectively detecting when visible tremor was present, based purely on the muscle contraction patterns. This paves the way towards the use of MMG in closed-loop control systems of tremor suppression devices.

Synchronization of sensor devices is crucial for concurrent data acquisition. Numerous protocols have emerged for this task, and for some multi-sensor setups to operate synchronized, a conversion between deployed protocols is needed. This paper presents a bare-metal implementation of a Tri- Level Sync signal generator on a microcontroller unit (MCU) synchronized to a master clock via the ieee 1588 Precision time Protocol (PTP). Cameras can be synchronized by locking their frame generators to the Tri-Level Sync signal. As this synchronization depends on a stable analog signal, a careful design of the signal generation based on a PTP-managed clock is required. The limited tolerance of a camera to clock frequency adjustments for continuous operations imposes rate-limits on the PTP-controller. Simulations using a software model demonstrate the resulting controller instabilities from rate-limiting. This problem is addressed by introducing a linear prediction mode to the controller, which estimates the realizable offset change during rate-limited frequency alignment. By adjusting the frequency in a timely manner, a large overshoot of the controller can be avoided. Additionally, a cascading controller design that decouples the PTP from the clock update rate proved to be advantageous to increase the camera’s tolerable frequency change. This paper demonstrates that a MCU is a viable platform to perform PTP-synchronized Tri-Level Sync generation.
