This paper describes characteristics of engineering of computer-Based systems (ECBS), and the need for formal undergraduate education of engineers in this discipline. The tasks to be undertaken by CBS engineers are outlined They form the requirements for the preparation of the ECBS Bachelor program. The paper describes in detail topics/courses specific to the program and lists conventional topics/courses The paper addresses some of the anticipated problems encountered in the development of the topics/courses. The proposed ECBS Bachelor curriculum is being developed by the Education and Training Working Group of the ieeecomputer Society ECBS Technical Committee. The current report is prepared as a working report to be presented at the ECBS01 conference and as a basis for the discussions of the Working Group during the ECBS01 conference and workshop in Washington. A final version of the curriculum will be published following ECBS01 conference.

This paper deals with recognition of complex shape;the method used is based on minimization of prior knowledge. So we work on both representations of image features and object shapes linked to photometry and geometry propreties. A fuzzy representation is used which is defined by independent membership functions of geometric distorsion, such as rotation, zoom and deformations due to the complexity of natural objects. Fault detection in industrial process is a popular research because it is very important for production and quality. In this paper, we proposed a novel method, integrated complex network theory with support vector machine(SVM), for fault detection of associated complexsystems. The proposed method takes global information of measured variables into account by complex network model and predicts whether a system has generated some faults or not by SVM. The experiments show that this method works well and can be a useful supplement for fault detection of associated complexsystems.

The IFIP TC10 Working Group 10.1 'computer Aided systems Theory' Committee Meeting at the Vienna University of Technology on the 30th Semptember, 1999, resulted in expressing the interest to support a joint workshop with the ieeecomputer Society TC-ECBS focused on Formal Specifications of computer-Based systems (FS CBS) owing to a substantial overlap in this research domain. The ECBS Executive Committee has supported origination of the ieee/IFIP Joint Workshop on FS CBS following the ECBS'2000 conference. Following the success of the current FS CBS Workshop, the FS CBS will be established as a persistent working group that will support annual Joint ieee/IFIP Workshops with ECBS conferences.

Brain-computer Interfaces (BCI) can provide innovative solutions beyond the medical domain. In human research, visuospatial attention is often assessed from shifts in head or gaze orientation. However in some critical situations, these behavioral features can be dissociated from covert attention processes and brain features may indicate more reliably the spatial focus of attention. In this context, we investigate whether EEG signals could be used to enhance the behavioral performance of human subjects in a visuospatial attention task. Our results demonstrate that a BCI protocol based on adaptive or warning displays can be developed to shorten the reaction time and improve the accuracy of responses to complex visual targets.

The description of natural phenomena from different Earth Observation (EO) activity domains is represented by complex processes that involve a solid understanding of the phenomena, the syntactic and semantic description of the proposed solutions, the experimental data collection, and the analysis and interpretation of the results. Such a use case scenario is modeled as a collection of operators that are able to generate in a finite amount of time a valid output, based on a range of input data sets. The current paper aims at identifying the main EO data processing types and providing a set of basic operators that represent the core of the KEOPS (Kernel Operators) system. At the moment, several researches are conducted to find the best solution of integrating this system within the BigEarth platform, but the main idea is to use KEOPS as a plugin that can fit within any EO related platform that aims at processing spatial data. One main advantage of using the KEOPS system is the possibility of easily extending its core dataset with new operators that fulfill the needs of developing complex use case scenarios.
