In recent years, the growing demand for location-based services has made positioning systems indispensable for mobile device users. Although the Global Positioning System (GPS) is widely used for outdoor positioning, its efficacy is significantly reduced due to obstructions that block or weaken the signal. To address this issue, Indoor Positioning Systems (IPS) offer a viable solution for indoor environments. This paper presents a comprehensive literature review of IPS from sources such as Science Direct and ieee Xplore using the PRISMA flow diagram for systematic review. We explore the latest techniques in IPS, discuss its challenges, and examine its application in various domains to provide an updated overview of the current trends and challenges in the field. We highlight that trilateration and Kalman filtering are the predominant methods for location determination and filtering. © 2024 ieee.

This paper explores an efficient implementation of the sigmoid function on Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) through Piecewise Linear Approximation (PLAN). Recognizing the high computational demands of exact sigmoid calculations, we propose a methodology that leverages Approximate computing techniques to enhance performance. By strategically reducing precision, our approach significantly speeds up computations while maintaining acceptable accuracy levels, thus optimizing resource usage. This tradeoff is particularly advantageous in scenarios demanding high-speed data processing and low power consumption. We demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of our method with empirical results, suggesting its practicality for real-time applications in neural networks and machine learning. © 2024 ieee.

The accelerated urbanisation and the increasing complexity of municipal infrastructure require the implementation of innovative strategies to regulate and improve urban environments. By integrating By integrating Cognitive computing, which combines AI, machine learning, and data analytics, could completely change how smart cities manage their infrastructure. The main goal of this project is to see what the possible benefits are of adding cognitive computing to the systems that are already in place, architecture of smart cities, resource allocation, enable predictive maintenance, facilitate informed decision-making, and provide real-time monitoring. We demonstrate the potential of cognitive systems to enhance the durability, duration, and efficacy of urban infrastructure through the examination of case studies and contemporary technological advancements. The results suggest that cognitive computing is the most effective solution for addressing current urban challenges and, as a result, is the most suitable choice for the development of intelligent cities in the future.

This paper proposes a distributed Green Network Optimization (GNO) with Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL). GNO-MARL combines: (a) Network Utility Maximization (NUM) based network management, given the capacity constraints, on a 'fast' time scale, and (b) network dimensioning which balances the maximal network utility with the 'carbon cost' of the transmissions on 'slower' time scales. Inherent non-convexity of the GNO due to dominance of the idle power in network devices, including routers, makes exact solution of the GNO even by centralized algorithms for realistic size networks intractable. It is known that distributed algorithms may introduce additional to the duality gap loss in the performance due to oscillatory instability. We advocate that this additional loss may be significantly reduced or even eliminated with MARL. This possibility is based on properties of Lagrange multipliers and suggested by known results on reducing the corresponding additional loss in network performance. © 2024 ieee.

Human Activity Recognition has become an increasingly important research area with applications in various domains, including healthcare, sports, and smart home technologies. This study presents a comprehensive approach to human activity recognition using a combination of time-domain and frequency-domain feature extraction with advanced feature extraction techniques along with a voting classifier model. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, a comprehensive evaluation was conducted using publicly available datasets. The results demonstrate that the proposed voting-based ensemble method with hybrid feature extraction significantly improved the accuracy of human activity recognition compared to individual classifiers and other ensemble models. ©2024 ieee.

This study investigates the reduction of execution divergence on graphics processing units (GPUs) through modification of input data arrangement. Execution divergence, which occurs when threads within a GPU warp take different execution paths, can significantly degrade performance. We examine the possibility of mitigating this performance loss by altering the processing order of input data on the GPU. A simple case study of changing letter case in text strings is used to demonstrate the effects of divergence and evaluate optimization techniques. Experiments are conducted using the Vulkan API to implement compute shaders with varying levels of forced divergence. Results show that rearranging input data or modifying execution order can substantially improve performance in divergent scenarios, in some cases approaching the speed of non-divergent code. Additionally, we observe that even for non-divergent algorithms, data remapping techniques can provide modest performance gains. The findings suggest that input data arrangement and execution ordering are important considerations for optimizing GPU compute performance, particularly for algorithms prone to divergence. © 2024 ieee.

Human Pose Estimation is a computer vision technique utilized in various fields such as healthcare, security, and sports to detect the pose of single or multi-person utilizing various machine learning and deep learning methodologies. These methodologies can be applied in a variety of ways, including top-down and bottom-up approaches. Furthermore, this technique can be used with images or videos, as well as in 2D or 3D domains. This paper delves into recent advancements in deep learning methods used for estimating the pose, covering commonly employed datasets, evaluation metrics, and the challenges encountered in this field. It aims to assist new researchers in getting familiar with this technique based on work published between 2019 and 2023, with a spotlight on 2D and omitting 3D. © 2024 ieee.

The progression of communication in the Message Passing Interface (MPI) is not well defined, yet it is critical for application performance, particularly in achieving effective computation and communication overlap. The opaque nature of MPI progress poses significant challenges in advancing MPI within modern high-performance computing practices. First, the lack of clarity hinders the development of explicit guidelines for enhancing computation and communication overlap in applications. Second, it prevents MPI from seamlessly integrating with contemporary programming paradigms, such as task-based runtimes and event-driven programming. Third, it limits the extension of MPI functionality from user space. In this paper, we examine the role of MPI progress by analyzing the implementation details of MPI messaging. We then generalize the asynchronous communication pattern and identify key factors influencing application performance. Based on this analysis, we propose a set of MPI extensions designed to enable users to construct and manage an efficient progress engine explicitly. We compare our approach to previous efforts in the field, highlighting its reduced complexity and increased effectiveness. © 2024 ieee.

The configuration of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) in the context of predictive modelling can provide considerable difficulty owing to the complex nature of their arrangements and the need for meticulous hyperparameter adjustment the present study addresses the issue by proposing a more straightforward methodology for configuring Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) through the R programming language the methodology presented in this study offers a systematic and comprehensive framework, ensuring accessibility and simplicity of implementation. This approach aims to enhance the usability of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) for practitioners who need advanced machine learning knowledge. In order to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed methodology, a series of experiments were conducted on a case study in sustainable energy research. This study makes a valuable contribution to academic discipline by establishing a connection between artificial neural network (ANN) theory and its practical application. This study aims to enhance the accessibility of artificial neural network (ANN) setup and provide significant insights to further progress predictive modelling, specifically focusing on sustainable energy research. © 2023 ieee.
