Tradition single-model adaptive signal processing system faces many difficulties. when it is applied in complex signals processing and different conditions, such as constant frequency wide-band signal, fast-varying signal and changed disturbing conditions. In this paper, multi-model adaptive signal processing systems based on multi-model adaptive control structure is presented.

A system of networked smart motors is developed to reduce complex cable harnesses. Motor control signals are sent over the DC power bus line and received by motors with integrated power amplifiers and controllers. Unlike traditional AC power line communication, the noise level and signal attenuation are much lower for the DC power bus communication. This allows for high fidelity, broadband communication among many smart motors without bulky, costly cables. A modem is designed to exploit the features of the DC power bus communication. Experimentation is done to verify that the DC bus line is indeed useful for communication. An experimental setup was developed to identify the noise spectrum and signal transmissibility of the consolidated power-signal line. Optimal carrier frequency and filter parameters are then obtained based on the experiments.

intelligent signal processing provides a wealth' of technologies, such as fuzzy logic, neural network, evolutionary computation that can be applied to the design and operation of communications systems. In this article, we present applications of fuzzy logic to problems in mobility management of heterogeneous wireless communication network, which including location management and handover management. In both cases, multiple criteria should be considered to implement multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) because of the heterogeneity of the different system entities (the user, the terminal, the services and the network). Fuzzy based MCDM method is presented for access network selection and the vertical handover decision. © 2003 ieee.

For a class of nonlinear continuous time systems x = f(x) + Bu + d, when the nonlinear function f(x) is bounded or satisfies linear growth condition with un-known growth coefficient, we first prove that x falls into a compact set, then two adaptive regulators are proposed based on the approximation capability of direct basis function networks. According to the Lyapunov stability theory, the control algorithms are proved to be globally stable, the state of closed-loop system is uniformly ultimately bounded and the control law is continuous.

Au intelligent robot platform for autonomous systems with vision capabilities has been developed by the University of Applied Sciences Brandenburg in cooperation with SME's. The system will be suitable as a research and education platform for universities, a basis for industrial applications and for private developers of robots. This paper presents an architecture overview and application details of the RCUBE system. RCUBE will be available in 2 modular versions: 1. a cost-effective platform for reactive robots and private developers 2. a performant platform for intelligent robots with image processing capabilities suitable for research, development and education in the field of service robotics (Fig.1). The system consists of 3 ready-to-program hardware modules with a basic software layer. They can be combined in different configurations. The modularity provides the flexibility to configure an RCUBE system for different application areas, but also single modules can be used in applications such as autonomous intelligent cameras or planning robots (e.g. lawnmower, vacuum cleaner). A key feature is the capability to autonomous image processing combined with sensors and actors, small size and low power consumption. RCUBE opens the way to small independent seeing robots. © 2003 ieee.

This paper presents a new visual gesture recognition method for the human-machine interface of mobile robot teleoperation. The interface uses seven static hand gestures, each of which represents an individual control command for the motion control of the remote robot. All the important aspects to develop such a interface are explored, including image acquisition, adaptive object segmentation with color image in RGB, HLS representation, morphological filtering, hand finding and labeling, and recognition with edge codes, template matching, and skeletonizing. By choosing processing methods and procedures properly, a higher ratio of correct recognition and a faster speed are achieved from the experiments.

This paper presents a new teaching method that effectively integrates IT technology into teaching and teaming process. The method is well suited for teaching engineering subject in large class and contains three major components: conceptual visualizing, just-in-time teaching, and knowledge transferring. The success of the method is based on an all-in-on Educator-to-Learning portal that provides course material management, dynamic tutorial publication, intelligent tutorial diagnosis, multimedia demonstrations for visualization of difficult concepts, online simulation, virtual laboratory, and etc. The new method brings a new learning experience to students in a learner centered environment.

In the presence of sensor gain and phase uncertainties for sensor array, the problem of High-resolution estimation of DOA-Doppler frequency for multiple targets signals is addressed. Making use of rotational invariance technique and collecting data of targets signals at two known carrier frequencies, the proposed method in this paper can estimate DOA-Doppler frequency of multiple targets accurately. Simultaneously, sensor gain and phase factors can be estimated precisely, then the manifold of sensor array can be calibrated in the following step. Simulation and practical example results illustrate that this method has superior Performance. © 2003 ieee.
