Based on the analysis of the traditional methods which require a large amount of computation, a fast algorithm for extracting the characteristic parameters of impulse response signal is proposed. In this method, the signal is processed with the wavelet transform to get the positions of the impulse components by using its characteristic of time-frequency localization. Then the computing interval which is much shorter than that of the traditional algorithm is set with the position of the impulse as the center. The characteristic parameters are extracted by searching the maximum of the correlation coefficient between the fault signal and the Laplace wavelet in the interval. The simulation result shows the method can extract the characteristic parameters quickly and accurately.

A new algorithm for Maximum likelihood blind image restoration is presented in this paper. It is obtained by modeling the original image and the additive noise as multivariate Gaussian processes with unknown covariance matrices. The blurring process is specified by its point spread function, which is also unknown. Estimations of the original image and the blur are derived by alternating minimization of the Kullback-Leibler divergence. The algorithm presents the advantage to provide closed form expressions for the parameters to be updated and to converge only after few iterations. A simulation example that illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is presented.

Many forensic techniques recently tried to detect the tampering and manipulation of JPEG compressed images that became a critical problem in different imaging applications. The retargeting pyramid (RP) method is a good alternative to the well-known Laplacian pyramid (LP) approach for multiscale image decomposition. RP can be obtained by replacing the low-pass filtering and downsampling processes in LP with content-aware image resizing (a.k.a. retargeting), which is a technique being developed in computer vision research. In this paper, we improve RP so that it obtains good scalable image representation. The improved RP is then integrated with a well-known multiscale-multidirection (MSMD) transform, contourlet transform, to construct a saliency-oriented MSMD image representation. In the experiment, our decomposition outperforms the conventional pyramid structures.

This study presents a novel non-invasive method for detecting and classifying neuro-degenerative diseases such as Parkinson's (PD) and Alzheimer's (AD) through automatic speech analysis and artificial intelligence. The analysis of the voice recordings was carried out using different parametric extraction methods based on the MFCC and prosodic coefficients (VOT, Jitter, Shimmer, HNR, ... ) followed by a classification step based on CNN and FC-DNN neural network. These methods made it possible to extract relevant speech parameters and use them for training and classification. The results obtained showed vocal disturbances in mild and preclinical stages of PD and AD such as articulation, prosody and rhythmic abilities. Developed machine learning algorithms were able to detect subjects with PD with 98% accuracy from rapid syllable repetitions and 96% accuracy for subjects with AD from voice parameters.

Neural networks (NN) for imageprocessing in embedded systems expose two conflicting requirements: increasing computing power needs as models become more complex and constrained resource budget. In order to alleviate this problems, model compression based on quantization and pruning techniques are common. Derived models then need to fit on reconfigurable systems such as FPGAs for the embedded system to work properly. In this paper, we present HLSinf, an open source framework for the development of custom NN accelerators for FPGAs which provides efficient support to quantized and pruned NN models. With HLSinf, significant inference speedups can be obtained for typical medical image-based applications. In particular, we obtain up to 90x speedup factor when we combine quantization/pruning with the flexibility of HLSinf compared to CPU.

We evaluate the fidelity/compression performance of fractal transforms over a range of parameters, using an rms error metric. We consider order of approximation, different (fixed) block sizes and various degrees of image searching. We find that higher orders of the Bath Fractal Transform (BFT) are a better means of gaining accuracy at a given bit rate than searching of the image. The best rate/disortion performance is obtained with a lightly quantized higher order BFT, whose optimum block size increases with compression.

Radar signal simulation technology plays an important role in the development, performance and evaluation testing stage of modern radar systems. This paper focuses on the design principles and hardware components of a wideband radar signal simulator based on high-speed DDS technology and Compact PCI bus. The result of joint commissioning between computer software and hardware system shows that this simulator can generate a variety of radar signals reliably and switch quickly among these signals.
