Under fault ride-through (FRT) mode, inverter-based resources (IBRs) are required to meet current injection requirements in emerging grid codes. The impact of IBRs on system protection may vary depending on the requirements, further challenging the operation of protection system under the influence of IBRs. In this paper, we focus on the impacts of ieee 2800 current injection requirements on distance protection. First, we develop a specified current-limiting scheme to comply with the ieee 2800 standard. During unbalanced faults, the impacts of the current injection on apparent impedance are elaborated analytically. In a modified ieee PSRC D29 system with IBRs, the performance of distance protection is investigated under varying impact factors, including K factors, fault proximity, and fault resistance. The results indicate that the specified scheme alters the magnitude and angle of current vectors, thereby modifying the trajectory of apparent impedance. With the specified current-limiting scheme, the sensitivity of distance protection is improved since the current capacity is fully utilized, but the rapidity of protection decreases due to the phase current scaling when the K factor is large. Hence, the selection of K factors should be based on the converter current capacity of IBRs.

This paper proposes a high-response torque control method for a surface permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) with reduction gearing for interactive operation. In robots performing interactive tasks, backforward-drivability of the geared SPMSM is important. The backforward-drivability is defined as the ease of manipulating the load-side of the geared motor by external forces. Torsion torque control has been proposed to enhance this drivability. However, conventional torsion torque control is limited in response speed due to the high system order and reliance on a minor loop current controller. In this study, we propose a high-response sliding mode direct torsion torque control for the geared SPMSM modeled as a two-inertia resonant system. The proposed method achieves rapid response by eliminating the current controller and controlling inverter switches directly. Numerical simulations and experiments confirm that the proposed method provides high-response torsion torque control.

A smart city's transportation system can be en-hanced if there is an accurate prediction of the traffic flow which develops in an area as time goes on. This article investigates the relative accuracy of predicting traffic flow at target intersections in a city, taking advantage of two models: Tab Net and a hybrid Transformer-XGBoost. Several metrics including Mean Squared Error (MSE) and Coefficient of determination (R2 score) among others were employed to evaluate the models employed. A sequential deep learning model known as Tab Net triumphing in the competition with MSE, RMSE, and MAE being 34.48, 5.87, and 3.73 respectively, and R2 score as high as 0.917, although performing well while enhancing identification of features such as year and junction. On the other hand, while reporting similar R2 score as low as 0.184, the Transformer-XGBoost hybrid model had structuring limitations where complex interdependencies and time variations were involved recording MSE, RMSE and MAE as 338.52, 18.40 and 13.24 respectively. The graphs of residuals and QQ plots served to uncover that the hybrid model failed making a right prediction during high traffic volume days, as general tabnet results shown in the final graphs are more stable. Following investigation of the models in this study, the researchers suggest implementing TabNet as a better option for traffic management explaining its high accuracy and providing valuable guidance for cities. This would result in improvement of the traffic flow prediction, which is highly needed for effective urban mobility solutions.

A race is underway to embed advanced AI capabil-ities into products. These product “copilots” enable users to ask questions in natural language and receive relevant responses that are specific to the user's context. In fact, virtually every large technology company is looking to add these capabilities to their software products. However, for most software engineers, this is often their first encounter with integrating AI-powered technol-ogy. Furthermore, software engineering processes and tools have not caught up with the challenges and scale involved with building AI-powered applications. In this work, we present the findings of an interview study with 26 professional software engineers responsible for building product copilots at various companies. From our interviews, we found pain points at every step of the engineering process and the challenges that strained existing development practices. We then conducted group brainstorming sessions to collaborative on opportunities and tool designs for the broader software engineering community.

In the context of the “dual-high” power grid, the study of grid-connected inverters that enhance power quality while maintaining fault tolerance under unbalanced conditions carries significant theoretical and practical value. Grid-following(GFL) inverters, as a widely adopted type of grid-connected inverter, continue to be a focal point of research. This paper proposes a quasi-proportional resonant (QPR) control method in the aB-reference frame. An impedance model of the GFL system is established through impedance analysis, and the influence of control parameters on system stability is evaluated using impedance stability criteria. Optimal control parameters are identified to enhance dynamic response and stability. Additionally, an improved phase-locked loop (PLL) control strategy is introduced, incorporating an orthogonal signal generator (OSG) with pre-filtering. The frequency-domain response characteristics of second-, third-, and fourth-order OSGs are compared, with the fourth-order OSG selected as the pre-filter for the PLL. This PLL strategy demonstrates robust adaptability to unbalanced grid conditions. Simulation results indicate that the proposed inverter control method achieves a total harmonic distortion (THD) of 0.47% for the grid-injected current under normal operation and 0.50% THD after fault clearance. The PLL method accurately tracks the grid phase during normal operation, fault conditions, and post-fault recovery. These findings validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, providing valuable insights for optimizing the stability and power quality of distributed active distribution networks and advancing the autonomy of distributed generation systems.

The reconfigurable model of the flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) with Petri Net by controllable transitions (CTs) is presented in this work. The Petri Net (PN) can provide effective procedures to solve deadlock handling in the FMS. Accurately eliminating deadlocked states in FMS and dynamic processes demonstrates the effectiveness of CTS. A novelty algorithm is presented to obtain the maximum permissive behaviors with fewer supervisors, which are obtained fully live. S4PRs, a system of sequential systems with shared resources, are used to implement the PNs that are effective and practical for describing the FMS interaction processes. The motivation analyzes and simulates FMS models using the PN simulator to solve the deadlock. The influence of a reachability graph (RG) is essential for detecting the states of deadlocked (DL). This paper focuses on the influence of CTs in PN that are controlling all resource utilization. In particular, the dynamic model of different kinds of FMS can have optimal solutions given by CTs.
