This study focuses on implementing a real-time control system for a particle accelerator facility that performs high energy physics experiments. A critical operating parameter in this facility is beam loss, which is the fraction of particles deviating from the accelerated proton beam into a cascade of secondary particles. Accelerators employ a large number of sensors to monitor beam loss. The data from these sensors is monitored by human operators who predict the relative contribution of different sub-systems to the beam loss. Using this information, they engage control interventions. In this paper, we present a controller to track this phenomenon in real-time using edge-Machine Learning (ML) and support control with low latency and high accuracy. We implemented this system on an Intel Arria 10 SoC, with optimizations at the algorithm, high-level synthesis, and interface levels to improve latency and resource usage. Our design implements a neural network, which can predict the main source of beam loss (between two possible causes) at speeds up to 575 frames per second (fps) (average latency of 1.74ms). The practical deployed system is required to operate at 320 fps, with a 3ms latency requirement, which has been met by our design successfully.

Ultrasound is a commonly used for medical diagnosis, and it can also be used for therapy. By using a curved transducer, ultrasound waves can be concentrated to create a focused beam that can stimulate tissues or cause thermal damage. Passive acoustic mapping (PAM) can be used with diagnostic ultrasound to monitor treatments and ensure safety. However, PAM is mainly used with closed diagnostic ultrasound platforms, which limits the integration of a full therapeutic ultrasound system. To address this issue, we have developed an FPGA-based ultrasonic therapeutic imaging monitoring system. We have demonstrated that this system is capable of PAM imaging, and offers several advantages including low cost, portability, and high processing power. This system can be dedicated to guiding therapeutic ultrasound. By using FPGAs, we have improved upon existing ultrasound technology, paving the way for more advanced medical procedures. © 2023 ieee.

In recent years, the application of wireless power transfer (WPT) technology has become increasingly popular, and one of the main applications is in wireless charging for electric vehicles. In order to effectively control the external leakage magnetic field of the WPT system, this paper reasonably designs the active and passive shielding structure of the WPT system. Using the 3D electromagnetic simulation software based on the finite element method, we analyze the transmission efficiency, magnetic flux density and the saving of shielding material of the 3kW electric vehicle WPT system with the shielding structure. The result shows that the designed active and passive shielding structure can saves 86.67% of the ferrite material compared with the whole ferrite plate, and improves the system transmission efficiency and significantly improves the distribution pattern and magnetic flux density of the leakage field. © 2023 ieee.

In the field of mechanical machining, measuring cutting force has become increasingly important. As the tool wears during the machining process, it can cause damage and require timely replacement. However, excessive and frequent tool changes can prolong overall processing time and lead to cost wastage. Moreover, if the timing of tool replacement is too late, it may also affect the quality of machining and reduce cost-effectiveness. Currently, most mechanical machining factories still rely on experienced engineers to judge whether the tool needs to be replaced by observing and listening to the machining process. This not only requires a lot of manpower and time costs but can also result in misjudgments. To address the problem of the inability to measure data in real-time during the machining process, this paper proposes a smart tool holder design that installs a sensing system inside the tool holder. The system uses a three-axis accelerometer to measure and analyze data. Additionally, the design uses a wireless power transmission system to provide power to the entire system and wirelessly transmit data to the host for signal processing and analysis. By displaying data through a window interface, the system can achieve real-time monitoring and is expected to have advantages such as fault diagnosis, improved accuracy, and reduced human costs. © 2023 ieee.

The article presents implementation of a computer application for current transformer design, based on classical methods, into the design of specific transformer. The transformer is produced with toroidal magnetic core, based on magnetic material with Flat hysteresis loop and provides galvanic separation in power electronic converters between the power and the control unit. In the previous works the basic requirements to soft magnetic materials for the toroidal magnetic core, design parameters as well the estimation of the current transformer errors are discussed. Also the computer aided design was described and illustrated with a part of the user interface. The new approach in the article is to incorporate a computer application for particular application - design of transformer that operates in current mode. © 2022 ieee.

Software Defined Network (SDN) is a new development direction of computer network technology in recent years. SDN aims to realize the programmability of network. Compared with traditional computer networks, SDN is global, flexible and customizable. With the programmability of SDN, information can be transmitted quickly and accurately and resources can be used effectively, ensuring the safe and reliable transmission of data in the power communication system. By introducing the basic structure of SDN network and taking a city as an example, this paper analyzes the status quo of data communication network of municipal power company and its optimization technical scheme, providing research ideas and engineering basis for the application of SDN technology in power communication network. © 2023 ieee.

In recent years, there has been an active introduction of digital and automated technologies in Russian mechanical engineering and instrumentation industries. Such systems are CAD, CAPP, MES systems, which allow to automate many processes in production. This study is devoted to CAPP (computer-aided process design systems), paying special attention to the methods used for the design of technological processes. The study showed that the search systems of existing CAPP are all based on manual entry of attributes and subsequent time-consuming analysis of search results, technological processes are dialogue mode. And one of the main factors determining the efficiency and competitiveness of the enterprise is a timely developed and established technological process. In order to increase the efficiency of the technological preparation stage of production, it is proposed a new method for designing technological processes in CAPP through the use of machine learning. Thus, the study made possible the development of a new automated process search system for analogue detail. Also the carried out study provides the algorithm, describing a new process engineering method with machine learning tools. © 2024 ieee.

With extensive integration of renewable resources and ever-rising consumer demand, the existing power systems inevitably experience the somber frequency instability problem. This work attempts to design and apply a nonlinear disturbances observer (NDO)-aided improved resilient controller to minimize the frequency deviation of a hybrid power system (hy-PS) following unknown/uncertain system disturbances. The NDO is developed to estimate time-varying uncertain bounded plant disturbance, including parametric uncertainties, load fluctuation, unsteady wind velocity, and unmodelled system dynamics. Subsequently, an active disturbance rejection control is implemented using an improved fractional-order sliding mode controller (iFOSMC) having NDO integrated to cope with system disturbances and offer finite-time asymptotic state convergence to the equilibrium point with least oscillations in control effort. Finite-time convergence of estimation error and asymptotic stability of the developed closed-loop system is also provided by applying the Lyapunov argument to guarantee the reliability of the proposed control algorithm. Besides, the mastery of the proposed NDO-aided iFOSMC compared to other well-known controllers has been demonstrated through comparative study under different perturbed conditions. The obtained system outputs show the high-effective performance of the proposed NDO-aided iFOSMC in terms of faster disturbance compensation, least chattering in control effort, and improved system outputs. The efficacy of the proposed frequency controller has also been tested against false data injection (FDI) attacks in a cyber-physical environment.

To achieve efficient human-robot cooperation, it is necessary to work in close proximity while ensuring safety. However, in conventional robot control, maintaining a certain distance between humans and robots is required for safety, owing to control uncertainties and unexpected human actions, which can limit the efficiency of robot operations. Therefore, this study aims to establish a human-robot cooperation aiding system that concerns both safety and efficiency in a close proximity situation. We propose two Augmented Reality (AR) interfaces to display robot information via AR glasses, allowing workers to see the robot information while focusing on their task and avoiding collisions with the robot. AR glasses can give hands-free communication required for a work environment like warehouses or convenience store backyards, and multiple information levels, simple or informative, to balance accuracy and easiness of human recognition ability. We conducted a comparative evaluation experiments with 24 participants and found that both safety and efficiency were improved using the proposed user interfaces (UIs). We also collected the position, head motion, and eye-tracking data from the AR glasses to gain insight into human behavior during the tasks for each UI. Consequently, we clarified the behavior of the participants under each condition and how they contributed to safety and efficiency.

Multi-user collaboration at research and development (R&D) workbenches in advanced optics laboratories involves updating and documenting the status of hundreds of components. Although there are abundant mixed reality (MR) systems to support the collaboration of spatially co-located users, limited methods are available to facilitate cooperation in the spatial-temporal domain. Inspired by the version control workflow used in software development, we propose RealityGit, a novel cross-reality (CR) system design that leverages the recent advancements of neural radiance fields (NeRF). We illustrate how the NeRF model can be used to channel users with different extended reality (XR) experiences by providing an accurate immersive visual documentation of the historical states of a complex R&D workbench. We demonstrate the feasibility of such a system through an implementation where users could contribute to the version control workflows by integrating historical NeRF scans into their MR devices or providing status reviews by annotating or editing a NeRF model in virtual reality (VR). © 2023 ieee.
