Hybrid energy storage converters can enhance photovoltaic power systems' dynamic response and stability. However, traditional linear controllers exhibit deficiencies when controlling bidirectional DC-DC converters. To address issues such as DC bus voltage sensitivity to nonlinear converter noise, photovoltaic output power, and load disturbances, a control strategy for hybrid energy storage converters based on dual-loop LADRC is proposed. A disturbance model of the main circuit is established by analyzing the operation principles of the hybrid energy storage converters. The design of a voltage-current dual-loop LADRC controller is completed based on this disturbance model, integrated with power division to achieve an overall control strategy for hybrid energy storage converters. Simulation results demonstrate that compared to traditional proportional-integral controllers, the dual-loop LADRC-based control strategy reduces DC bus voltage amplitude fluctuations by 39.4% and decreases settling time by 25.0%, exhibiting superior dynamic response and disturbance rej ection capabilities in power response and DC bus voltage support.

SummaryIn this study, we demonstrated light shift detection in a running atomic clock using the multi-photodetection method. This method enables the observation of atomic resonances with different intensities using the intensity distribution of the laser beam. As it requires only two photodiodes to detect light shifts, it is easily applicable to miniature vapor-cell-based atomic clocks such as chip-scale atomic clocks and miniature atomic clocks.

We propose a biomimetic propulsion system inspired by the spinal motor control mechanisms of zebrafish, allowing the submersible to adapt its propulsion strategy in real time based on real-time feedback from the environment. The design consists of two components: a neurological model and a topological model. The topological model is derived from Navier-Stokes equations to simulate fluid dynamics, coupled with topology optimization methods to optimize the shape and surface interactions of the submersible with water. To evaluate the effectiveness of the system, we tested the system under two control conditions: open-loop configurations and closed configurations. The experimental results demonstrated that the topology and topological mod-els achieved significant improvements in energy efficiency and traversal time, compared to a control set-up. This design allows us to extend the operational range and duration of underwater vehicles, enabling more extensive and sustainable exploration of the ocean floor. This technology has far-reaching implications for ocean exploration, climate research, and underwater robotics. Moreover, the scalability of our design allows for potential applications in larger underwater vehicles as well as in multi-agent systems where multiple underwater vehicles work together.

Vertebrate flyers perform intermittent flights as bounding or oscillating flights for power management. Intermittent flights and the resulting oscillating height during flapping and soaring provide the means of increasing speed without increasing flapping speed. These maneuvers and their robotic biomimicry have remained unexplored so far, which, if understood, can lead to aerial robot designs with endured flight operations. This works attempts to achieve robotic bounding flight using Northeastern’s Aerobat platform. Aerobat can dynamically morph its wings by collapsing them rapidly during each gaitcycle. We present a launcher designed that allows bounding flight experimentation of Aerobat in a computer-aided fashion. We augmented Aerobat with a plural tiny thruster to stabilize its unstable roll, pitch, and yaw dynamics. This paper presents our control design based on extending Aerobat’s states to accommodate unobservable aerodynamic forces and offers experimental results to support our proposed approach.

Studies on efficiency and performance of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) involves the complicated interactions of optic, electronic, magnetic, quantum and thermal characteristics of materials and structures of LEDs. Therefore, efficiency and performance of LEDs are generally investigated by measurements and aided via theoretical analysis. While the analytical formulas of material properties and structures of LEDs are sensitive and difficult to obtain for calculating the efficiency and performance of LEDs, it is still essential for academic and technological developments to propose the analytical model of efficiency study based on material properties and structures of LEDs. With the progress in the analytical formulas of material properties and structures of LEDs, the analytical method for the study on the efficiency of LEDs is proposed in this paper and applied to the efficiency predictions of AlGaInP and InGaN QW LEDs. The results are compared with the available measured data and agree with these obtained by measurements. The results indicate that the variation of efficiency of InGaN LED with forward current increases very rapidly at initial forward current and then slowly decreases with the increasing forward current. However, efficiency of AlGaInP LED hardly decreases with the increasing forward current after the rapid increase of efficiency at the initial forward current. The possible reason is that the series resistance of AlGaInP LED is lower than that of InGaN LED.

Due to the frequent occurrence of system frequency security problems caused by integrating wind power generation into the grid, new frequency Modulation measures are urgently needed. To ensure the economy and safety of power grid operation, it is necessary to provide energy storage systems for wind farms. In this paper, energy storage batteries are utilized to participate in the primary and secondary frequency Modulation of the power system, and an equal-proportion control algorithm for improving the SOC imbalance of energy storage batteries was proposed. This algorithm can jointly determine how the power deviation signal generated by frequency Modulation is reasonably distributed to each energy storage battery unit based on the different SOC of each battery unit of the energy storage battery and its operating status (charging and discharging) so that the energy storage battery can not only support the frequency Modulation of the power grid but also improve the imbalance problem of its own SOC. The simulation results reveal that using energy storage batteries to regulate frequency can well meet the active frequency support capability of the new power system, and introducing the equal-proportion control algorithm can also improve the imbalance problem of SOC.

Supply chain security is an interesting facet of modern system-on-chip security. While other attacks (control flow, information flow, side-channel, etc.) may be of interest in specific application domains, supply chain confidentiality attacks are almost always possible in virtually every SoC. These attacks include device counterfeiting, overproduction, reverse engineering, illegal recycling, etc. Because supply-chain is a blanket attack space, a security architecture that provides assurance against it is an open research topic. Minimum security threats include protection against counterfeiting, reverse engineering, and illegal recycling across all lifecycles of the device. In this paper, we present SOCRATES, a minimum security architecture that provides security against such attacks. SOCRATES is a viable candidate, especially for low-power and area designs.

In recent years many embedded system products are shipped with Android system installed as their operating systems. Building an installable system image file of Android, however, is not trivial and there is no graphical user interface (GUI) for the official Android build system. Although quite a lot of guiding information and helpful resources are available in addition to the official documentation provided by Google, it is not uncommon that the building process failed due to some subtle mistakes and the developer felt frustrated. When system customization is desired, such as tailoring the source code or removing some unnecessary modules from the source code, the burden is even greater because the building rules of Android system lack enough flexibility and Android system has become bigger and more complicated during the past years. It is not only very challenging but also very difficult, if not impossible, to implement the desired tailoring without help from certain analysis tools. This paper presents the development of a GUI based integrated building environment for Android. The main goal is to help smoothly and easily build a custom system image of Android via providing GUIs and integrating the functions needed and desirable in carrying out the building process. The contributions of this work mainly include: (1) an approach to analyzing the module dependency of Android source code that helps remove unnecessary modules or features in customizing Android system image;(2) the GUIs that help users easily and quickly build an Android system image;and (3) an integrated building environment that helps achieve building automation of Android. This integrated building environment therefore is useful and helpful in building Android system images.

The use of computer vision in mechatronics is one of the most important and rapidly increasing fields of science and technology today. Modern mechatronics engineers must be familiar with these types of simple and inexpensive programmable control systems. The open-source control system designed in the Python Open CV library is described in this paper as a mechatronic educational prototype "ball and plate"with customizable configuration options. Positions for the educational prototype were constructed in 3D print techniques during the phases of computer-aided design, and an experimental manageable platform with camera feedback was exhibited. The purpose is to change the set point position in order to control the ball's position. Two-degrees-of-freedom mechatronic system with computer vision USB HD camera as feedback and DC servomotors as actuators. Using the Arduino platform and Python script-based open-source control system tools, you may change the color, PID controller parameters, and indirect control the movement of servomotors via PWM signals. This enables students to build and test position control algorithms for various round object forms and colors. Students can use the presented mechatronic platform to further their education by learning about the meaning of computer vision in mechatronics and the working principles of PID controller feedback. © 2022 ieee.

With the continuous progress of society, the problem of traffic congestion is becoming increasingly serious. However, when an unmanned vehicle is driving on the highway, it is unavoidable to encounter situations such as vehicle collisions and rear-end collisions. In order to effectively solve this problem, this article proposes to use machine vision technology to deal with such events. By using a computer image recognition system, the required recognition information can be analyzed and extracted to obtain the required results. At the same time, the video data also needs to be converted into digital signals and output to the control unit to realize the automatic collision avoidance function. This article tests the performance of the active collision avoidance algorithm of driverless cars. The test results show that the recall rate of the collision avoidance algorithm is between 0.7-0.89, and the highest collision avoidance accuracy can reach 0.97. This shows that this method can greatly improve the safety performance of driverless cars and create a safer and more convenient travel environment.
