With the characteristics of low DC-link voltage and wide operating range, thyristor-controlled LC-coupling hybrid active power filter (TCLC-HAPF) is a promising power quality compensator in the medium-voltage-level power system. This paper reviews the design and implementation of different current control strategies for the TCLC-HAPF, which are hysteresis current control (HCC), multi-quasi-proportional-resonant control (MQPRC), $H_{\infty}$ optimal control (HOC), finite-set model predictive control (FS-MPC), second-order sliding mode control (SOSMC) and deadbeat current control (DBCC). Also, their pros and cons are fully discussed. In order to provide a deeper understanding about the steady-state and transient performances of these control strategies, the simulation study is presented under both inductive and capacitive loads.

“Circuits” is a foundational technical course required for undergraduate and diploma students in electrical, control, and information-related fields. This paper analyzes the characteristics of the first six national high-quality circuit MOOCs. A MOOC content system was designed based on the principles of focusing on student learning outcomes, independent knowledge points, and coherent explanation of competency points. The online open course “Circuits” was constructed following the key points of artistic courseware layout, rigorous yet engaging knowledge delivery, interactive online and offline engagement, and video production that includes smiles, humor, and wit. The course was launched on the Chinese University MOOC platform with excellent operation, and it received the National Top-level Online Course award in 2020.

In this work we analyze the problem of computing the regions of attraction of a well-acknowledged model in the framework of diabetes modeling and control, the model by Topp et al. Despite the importance of this pioneering model in the literature of mathematical models of diabetes progression, to the best of our knowledge a clear representation of the regions of attraction of specific target sets under suitable conditions appears to be lacking. We address this problem by means of a method employing moment-sum-of-squares (moment-SOS) hierarchy that we exploit to assess the validity of a general computation of the regions of attraction performed through a Monte Carlo simulation. Addressing the problem of the knowledge of certain region of attraction, this work paves the way to future research aimed at exploiting a polynomial version of diabetes progression models to leverage optimal control problem design via occupation measures and momentSOS hierarchy.

In this paper, an active intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) assisted secure integrated sensing and simultaneous wireless information and power transfer system is proposed with the power splitting (PS) model adopted. Aiming to maximize the harvested power while satisfying the constraints of the integrated sidelobe level ratio and secrecy rate, an optimization problem is formulated to jointly determine the appropriate transmit beamforming, artificial noise (AN) vectors, PS ratios, as well as the amplification factors and phase shifts of the active IRS, which is non-convex and intractable. To overcome this challenge, we leverage semidefinite programming to transform it into a convex counterpart, and propose an alternating optimization algorithm to obtain a solution for the original problem. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme compared to benchmarks.

Nowadays, as more and more senior citizens have retired and lived alone at home, the population aging issue is becoming serious. For this elderly group, their health and safety deserve more attention. In this paper, we design an emergency communication system to facilitate the health and safety monitoring of the elderly people living alone. The system consists of both hardware and software parts. The hardware part includes Raspberry Pi, sensors and LoRa modules. Among them, Raspberry Pi 4B+ is the core control board, and the Sense-Hat is an integrated board of sensors to collect relevant data. The LoRa modules are used to transmit data between the terminal and the gateway. The software part includes communication protocol, channel hopping strategy, fall detection algorithm and WeChat applet. Among them, the communication protocol combined with the channel hopping strategy can improve the quality and efficiency of communication between the gateway and the terminals, and the fall detection algorithm can monitor in real-time whether elderly people are incurring falling danger. Once a fall occurs, a warning message will be reported to the gateway, and then reported to the OneNet cloud platform and WeChat applet, so that the family members (say, sons or daughters) who are far away from home can know the situation of the elderly people at home. The system is helpful to realize remote nursing of the elderly people living alone. © 2022 ieee.

Simultaneously transmitting and reflecting intelligent reflecting surfaces (STAR-IRS) can assist in achieving full-space signal coverage enhancement. Considering eavesdropping channels, a downlink system model with full coverage of STAR-IRS enabled unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) secure communication is proposed. The aim is to attain the maximal value of the energy efficiency (EE) by exploring the joint resource allocation of the system. To solve this coupling problem, the lower and upper bounds of the sum-rate for legitimate and eavesdropping users are derived respectively, and Lagrange duality theory is employed to deal with the power control problem. Then the reflection/transmission amplitude splitting coefficient optimization of STAR-RIS using the Hybrid whale-bat (HWB) method in energy splitting (ES) mode are considered to fully exploit the performance gains brought by STAR-IRS deployment. Finally, the simulation verifies that the proposed joint design scheme can enormously promote the EE and safety performance of the system.

The optimal neuroprosthetic control paradigm seeks to minimize the differences between artificial and natural physiology regarding subjective embodiment and dynamic performance. This study introduces a volitional control system integrating an electromyography (EMG)-driven musculoskeletal model with a finite state machine (FSM) impedance controller. A Hill-type muscle model is used to simulate the Gastrocnemius (GAS) and Tibialis Anterior (TA) muscles around the ankle joint. The system activates these muscles using input from ankle sensors and EMG data from antagonist muscles. To improve functionality and responsiveness, muscle parameters are optimized using a surrogate-based optimization approach. The impact of EMG control on a hybrid controller was analyzed, focusing on muscle activation during the stance phase. Two controllers were tested on a transtibial amputee for level-ground walking and stair ascent. Insights were gained into optimizing muscle activation for better gait dynamics. The model-based design technique was employed to automate validation, verification, and coding, reducing manual steps and errors. For level-ground walking, both hybrid controllers behaved more like an impedance controller than an EMG control. Disabling EMG control during plantarflexion with controller 1 prevented excessive plantarflexion, leading to a more natural gait. controller 1, which used the TA muscle exclusively during controlled dorsiflexion, demonstrated greater repeatability. During stair ascent, both controllers allowed the user to place their toe first at each step, closely mimicking a natural gait pattern. controller 2 exhibited better repeatability and slightly higher torque at the start of the controlled dorsiflexion phase, simplifying the control strategy and reducing computational effort.

This paper presents the design and testing of a portable, low-cost Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) biosensor measurement device. The device integrates a QCM with Resistance monitoring (QCM-R) measurement system and a microfluidic system, managed jointly by a computer via a Python application. The QCM-R measurement system comprises front-end electronics and a digital architecture based on Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) for accurate oscillation frequency measurement. The microfluidic system includes four piezoelectric micropumps interfaced with a dedicated measurement chamber, ensuring precise fluid flow control and delivery to the QCM sensor surface. The system is operated in feedback with a microcontroller through a flow sensor, enabling real-time adjustments and constant fluid flow rates. The measurement chamber, designed for both dynamic and static measurements, was realized using Masked Stereolitography (MSLA) techniques and low-cost PVA based resin. The device performance was evaluated through microfluidic system testing and measurement chamber performance testing. The results demonstrate the device potential for advanced biosensing applications, facilitating onsite testing, rapid results, and potential for mass deployment in resource-limited settings.

With the rapid development of computer science, neural network (NN) has received widespread attention. However, it is mainly used as a black box in identification and prediction, which is highly complicated. Its explainability should be mentioned when it is used in real applications. So, this paper derives the explainable control scheme to make sure its theoretical rigorousness. Then a straightforward explanation of the neural network controller using a block diagram is given to help researchers to reproduce the method. Since the detailed design of the neural network should concern the principle of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), this analyses the real PMSM system and finds the control performance characteristic, especially in spontaneous disturbances. Unlike the black-box neural network, the recurrent radial basis function neural network (RRBF) controller method is proposed, guided by overshoot. Because various PMSMs have various performances of speed changing, three key functions of RRBF are proposed to check which variant is the most suitable for reducing the overshoot. Finally, the RRBF method is implemented in STM32, and its effectiveness in the experiment is checked.

This article presents a study on the use of photovoltaic panels for storing electrical energy intended to power an HVAC unit placed in a residential room. To highlight this aspect, two specific scenarios will be considered. Thus, we aim to analyze whether the generated and stored energy is sufficient to fulfil the thermal comfort requirements of the user, while also considering the primary objective of minimizing energy consumption. To achieve this goal, the HVAC unit will be controlled by implementing a fuzzy system that determines its optimal activation based on the comfort level obtained from the user. The fuzzy system presents as inputs both environmental parameters and specific personal perception parameters of the user. The research results provide an insight into the efficiency of implementing photovoltaic energy storage systems for residential applications and propose solutions for optimizing energy consumption in the context of ensuring adequate thermal comfort. Thus, the study contributes to the development of sustainable and personalized energy solutions for smart homes.
