This paper presents a virtual reality application developed for engineering students aiming to help them develop their skills to correctly interpret the geometrical tolerances for orientation, like parallelism, perpendicularity and angularity, according to the latest Geometrical Product Specification (GPS) Standards. The previous studies focused on the impact of mobile learning on student achievement show that the method could be one promising educational method. The educational applications used on mobile devices develop a friendly environment and generate a positive effect on learning. Having spatial skills is essential for engineering students who need to imagine different shapes and orientations. The authors have discovered based on their experience in teaching courses like computer aided design and tolerances and dimensional control, that many students have difficulties with understanding 3D spatial geometry and the transitions between 2D drawings and 3D parts. This kind of skills can be developed through specific training with appropriate tools, like the virtual reality application developed and presented in this paper. Based on a long research the authors managed to develop this training application that offers the viewer a 360-degree view of different mechanical parts presenting 3D geometrical tolerances annotations according to the latest GPS standards. The developed application also presents 3D models of the meaning based on the skin model, the tolerance zones, the condition of conformity as well as the datum features.

Traffic management systems are used to efficiently use the available highway infrastructure and to improve traffic safety. For example, traffic on the Dutch highway is measured and controlled using around 6000 roadside units (RSUs). Despite the many similarities between these RSUs, variations exist in the number of components and configuration of an RSU. This results in a labor-intensive, error-prone design process of supervisory controllers for all possible configurations. In this paper, supervisory control theory is applied to RSUs. It allows designers to create a correct-by-construction supervisor, using models of the system and the control requirements. Due to the variations between RSUs, it is not feasible to make a model for each RSU individually. Therefore, a configurator is proposed which allows for generation of models for any given RSU configuration. The generated models are then used to create a supervisor that adheres to the specified requirements. The use of a configurator reduces the possibility of man-made errors and allows to easily create models for a large number of systems. As a proof of concept, a model for a representative RSU is generated.

In order to realize automatic detection of corrosion on the piston rod of hydraulic hoist of hydropower station, it is important to find the location of corrosion and prevent oil leakage of hydraulic hoist and the blocking of control valve or other adverse consequences. A quick and convenient inspection robot for piston rod of hydraulic hoist is developed. Firstly, according to the specific working requirements of the piston rod of the hydraulic hoist of hydropower station and the basic principle of the robot, the structure scheme of the design of the testing robot is put forward. Then the robot control system is designed for the detection robot, and the basic idea of image recognition is introduced. Next the human-computer interaction interface is designed. Finally, the performance of the detection robot was tested to verify whether the reliability of the robot and the accuracy of image recognition meet the design objectives, and to ensure that the performance of the piston rod detection robot meets the design requirements. © 2021 ieee.

We present a scalable methodology for the agile physical design of tile-based heterogeneous system-on-chip (SoC) architectures that simplifies the reuse and integration of open-source hardware components. The methodology leverages the regularity of the on-chip communication infrastructure, which is based on a multi-plane network-on-chip (NoC), and the modularity of socket interfaces, which connect the tiles to the NoC. Each socket also provides its tile with a set of platform services, including independent clocking and voltage control. As a result, the physical design of each tile can be decoupled from its location in the top-level floorplan of the SoC and the overall SoC design can benefit from a hierarchical timing-closure flow, design reuse and, if necessary, fast respin. With the proposed methodology we completed two SoC tapeouts of increasing complexity, which illustrate its capabilities and the resulting gains in terms of design productivity.

Processing-using-DRAM (PUD) is a processing-in-memory (PIM) approach that uses a DRAM array's massive internal parallelism to execute very-wide (e.g., 16,384-262,144-bit-wide) data-parallel operations, in a single-instruction multiple-data (SIMD) fashion. However, DRAM rows' large and rigid granularity limit the effectiveness and applicability of PUD in three ways. First, since applications have varying degrees of SIMD parallelism (which is often smaller than the DRAM row granularity), PUD execution often leads to underutilization, through-put loss, and energy waste. Second, due to the high area cost of implementing interconnects that connect columns in a wide DRAM row, most PUD architectures are limited to the execution of parallel map operations, where a single operation is performed over equally-sized input and output arrays. Third, the need to feed the wide DRAM row with tens of thousands of data elements combined with the lack of adequate compiler support for PUD systems create a programmability barrier, since programmers need to manually extract SIMD parallelism from an application and map computation to the PUD hardware. Our goal is to design a flexible PUD system that overcomes the limitations caused by the large and rigid granularity of PUD. To this end, we propose MIMDRAM, a hardware/software co-designed PUD system that introduces new mechanisms to allocate and control only the necessary resources for a given PUD operation. The key idea of MIMDRAM is to leverage fine-grained DRAM (i.e., the ability to independently access smaller segments of a large DRAM row) for PUD computation. MIMDRAM exploits this key idea to enable a multiple-instruction multiple-data (MIMD) execution model in each DRAM subarray (and SIMD execution within each DRAM row segment). We evaluate MIMDRAM using twelve real-world applications and 495 multi-programmed application mixes. In this paper, a broadband driver module is realized for control of a single transmon Qubit. The driver module comprises a IQ up-conversion mixer designed for operation at 4 K, implemented using a 28-nm CMOS process as a prototype for multi-Qubit control. The RF port of the driver module offers the conversion gain of 0.3 ± 3 dB at 4 K over the frequency range of 4 to 10 GHz, with a total DC power consumption of 11 mW. The power handling capability larger than −35 dBm enables to effective driving of the Qubit. The driver module performance is demonstrated through the successful control of a single Qubit. Furthermore, the fidelity of 99.32% is measured by injecting a 4.34-GHz π-pulse signal with a duration of 20 ns, determined through Rabi oscillation experiments.

Many safety-critical real-time systems operate under harsh environment and are subject to soft errors caused by transient or intermittent faults. It is critical and yet often very challenging to apply fault tolerance techniques in these systems, due to resource limitations and stringent constraints on timing and functionality. In this work, we leverage the concept of weakly-hard constraints, which allows task deadline misses in a bounded manner, to improve system's capability to accommodate fault tolerance techniques while ensuring timing and functional correctness. In particular, we a) quantitatively measure control cost under different deadline hit/miss scenarios and identify weak-hard constraints that guarantee control stability;b) employ typical worst-case analysis (TWCA) to bound the number of deadline misses and approximate system control cost;c) develop an event-based simulation method to check the task execution pattern and evaluate system control cost for any given solution;and d) develop a meta-heuristic algorithm that consists of heuristic methods and a simulated annealing procedure to explore the design space. Our experiments on an industrial case study and synthetic examples demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

Access monitoring and control system are a set of software and hardware for restricting and registering the entry and exit of objects to a given territory through special transitions. Reliable operation of these systems is an important element of security. Electromagnetic interference may impair the function of access control systems. One of the causes of system malfunctions can be electromagnetic interference through the power supply network. The article analyzes unintentional and deliberate sources of electromagnetic interference through the power supply network. a simulation model is proposed and the results of modeling electromagnetic interference in an access monitoring and control system when exposed to electromagnetic pulses through a power supply network are presented. The results obtained are in good agreement with experimental data. © 2021 ieee.

This paper proposes a Hardware-in-the-Loop sim-ulation (HiLs) tested via square Helmholtz coils as a relative magnetic field generator. In technical terms, the HiLs is an indispensable tool for engineering design during rapid proto-typing of attitude determination and control algorithms for the turning parameters that control the attitude of the satellite, since most of the satellite's mission relies on its attitude, making this system one of the most essential to the satellite's operation. More-over, performing controlled experiments with the parameters for developing adaptive control algorithms improves the overall efficiency of the satellite's kinematic system. The conceptual design of a proposed system architecture can be composed of the electrical currents of 2.4-meter square Helmholtz coils produced by a low-level microcontroller equipped with a DC-motor driver by a pulse-width modulation (PWM) signal through real-time connection to an orbit propagator using a high-level computer. This research focuses on the attitude dynamic of satellites through the interaction between the Earth's magnetic field (EMF) and the magnetotorque in the satellite. To apply this phenomenon, the intensity and the direction of the magnetic field must be identified through Biot-Savart's law. Along with the EMF, the reference position is calculated using the standard general perturbations satellite orbit model (SGP4), and the intensity is modeled based on coefficients from the 13 th edition of the international Geo-magnetic Reference Field (IGRF). Therefore, this paper presents a detailed development of a HiLs testbed for distributed attitude determination and control systems (hardware and software co-design, protocol, and control theory). China is a large nation of breeding industry and has a big demand for poultry products. In terms of the level of automation and management of poultry farms, there is a certain gap compared with the developed countries. In this paper, based on the researches on application of automation equipment and Internet technologies, we design a large-scale breeding farm automation control monitoring system by using the upper computer software and the lower computer PLC, which can applied to the whole production management process.
