The structure of the decision support system for controlling the color characteristics of polymer products based on fuzzy models is presented, the application of which will reduce the amount of scrap in production, reduce the size of production costs, as well as reduce the degree of environmental pollution. The observed system includes a module for evaluating color characteristics from fuzzy models, which makes the system hybrid, using both deterministic and fuzzy models in work, which allows you to more efficiently and qualitatively cope with the task of analyzing the color characteristics of polymer productions. © 2021 ieee.

Trusted execution environment (TEE) promises strong security guarantee with hardware extensions for security-sensitive tasks. Due to its numerous benefits, TEE has gained widespread adoption, and extended from CPU-only TEEs to FPGA and GPU TEE systems. However, existing TEE systems exhibit inadequate and inefficient support for an emerging (and significant) processing unit, NPU. For instance, commercial TEE systems resort to coarse-grained and static protection approaches for NPUs, resulting in notable performance degradation (10%–20%), limited (or no) multitasking capabilities, and suboptimal resource utilization. In this paper, we present a secure NPU architecture, known as sNPU, which aims to mitigate vulnerabilities inherent to the design of NPU architectures. First, sNPU proposes NPU Guarder to enhance the NPU’s access control. Second, sNPU defines new attack surfaces leveraging in-NPU structures like scratchpad and NoC, and designs NPU Isolator to guarantee the isolation of scratchpad and NoC routing. Third, our system introduces a trusted software module called NPU Monitor to minimize the software TCB. Our prototype, evaluated on FPGA, demonstrates that sNPU significantly mitigates the runtime costs associated with security checking (from upto 20% to 0%) while incurring less than 1% resource costs.

This paper presents the design and implementation of a pocket-sized electronic system for quantifying glucose levels in diabetic patients by measuring a byproduct of the chemical reaction of glucose oxidation, such as hydrogen peroxide. A novel Nano Wire sensor obtained the current versus the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration relationship. The system utilizes a modified amperometric electrochemical sensor circuit topology named "Strong Follower" (SF) to measure current signals from 1 μA to 11 μA accurately. The SF circuit includes active control loop feedback to maintain the output voltage in line with the input voltage, ensuring accurate and stable measurements. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system in quantifying H2O2 concentrations. Experimental tests were conducted using currents of 1, 5, 10, and 15 μA. Additionally, using general-purpose electronic components helps reduce the overall implementation cost, making it more accessible for diabetes healthcare applications.

In an effort to shift the paradigm of power conversion, acoustic resonators pose as compact alternatives for lossy magnetic inductors. Currently, the acoustic resonator’s restricted inductive region between its series and parallel resonances constitutes a major bottleneck, which is further diminished due to spurious modes. Prior work has partially addressed this issue by the introduction of various design guidelines tailored to the material and the mode of interest, but can only provide a limited spurious-free region. Alternatively, a separated grounded ring on LN operating in the first order symmetric lamb mode (S1), maintains optimal device performance with a large fractional spurious mode suppressed region, but has been shown to experience voltage breakdown at high power near the ring at different potentials. Hence, we propose a new spurious mode suppressing design leveraging a thickened active ring in lithium niobate (LN), maintaining high Q and k 2 while also reducing resistance at resonance (R r ), and mitigating breakdown effects.

This paper is about the design and integration of a novel offshore aquaculture feeding system based on IoT and AI techniques. An intelligent feeding system with fodder volume control and throwing accuracy can not only reduce waste and labor but also improve feeding efficiency. The proposed feeding system is connected to a cloud providing the volume to feed which is predicted according to various on-line environmental data such as temperature and water quality. Furthermore, the fodder throwing trajectory is detected and controlled through AI vision techniques. © 2021 ieee.

In industrial control systems (ICS), programmable logic controllers (PLCs) directly control and monitor physical processes in real-time such as nuclear plants, and power grid stations. Adversaries typically transfer malicious control logic to PLCs over the network to sabotage a physical process. These control logic attacks are well-understood containing machine instructions in network packets and are likely to be detected by network intrusion detection systems (IDS). On the other hand, return-oriented programming (ROP) reuses blocks (or gadgets) of existing code in computer memory to create and execute malicious code. It limits or eliminates the need to transfer machine instructions over the network, making it stealthier. Currently, ROP attacks on control logic has never been discussed in the literature to explore it as a practical ICS attack. This paper is the first attempt in this direction to explore challenges for a successful ROP attack on real-world PLCs, including maintaining a continuous (control logic) scan cycle through ROP gadgets, no user input (to cause a buffer overflow) to overwrite the stack for gadget installation, and limited ROP gadgets in a PLC memory to find blocks of instructions equivalent to the high-level constructs of PLC programming languages (such as instruction list, and ladder logic). We identify and utilize typical PLC design features (that we find exploitable) to overcome these challenges, which makes ROP attacks applicable to most PLCs e.g., no stack protection, and remote access to certain PLC memory regions via ICS protocols. We demonstrate two successful ROP attacks on the control logic programs of three fully-functional physical processes, i.e., a belt conveyor system, a four-floor elevator, and a compact traffic light system. The first ROP attack manipulates a PLC’s current control logic and has two variants involving either a single or multiple gadgets; the second ROP attack constructs a control logic from scratch using gadgets

In this paper, a Battery Management system (BMS) is designed and implemented to enable fast balancing of a 4S1P battery pack, which contains four Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) cells connected in series. The proposed Master-Slave architecture supposes a single Master node and four Slave nodes which communicate using a controller Area Network (CAN). The Master node receives the measured parameters (voltage, temperature, balancing state) from all Slave nodes, detects if the battery pack is charged, compares the cells voltages, takes the decision which cell to be balanced, and transmits the balancing command to a specific Slave node. Also, the Master node has the role of protection for undervoltage, overvoltage, and overtemperature, by disabling the battery charger or the load. Each Slave node acquires cell data and enables passive balancing of that cell using high power resistors. The measured parameters and the operating states of the BMS can be also transmitted through the CAN-bus to other Electronic control Units (ECUs), for example an LCD display.

Advancements in hardware architecture and system design have enabled the transformational pivot towards cloud-computing. The rising cost of on-premise, vertical scaling, and maintenance combined with the rise of workload heterogeneity have fueled this paradigm shift. Furthermore, increasingly demanding use-cases for storage and High-Performance Computing (HPC) as well as the emergence of new workloads such as machine learning and big-data have motivated research into network traffic analysis, resource disaggregation, job scheduling, and orchestration in a bid to reduce total cost while maintaining high performance. A prime focus of this research is the communication performance of collectives, which comprise a significant portion of the communication of many of the aforementioned workloads. In this paper, we characterize the performance of MPI_Allreduce, which is used extensively in HPC and Deep-Learning (DL) training workloads in cloud environments. We demonstrate several key insights including that the Ring algorithm performs better than the Rabenseifner algorithm under conditions of high congestion and packet drops. We further illustrate detailed performance analysis under different assumptions and provide recommendations on how to address issues that can manifest.

The multi-pumping resource sharing technique can overcome the limitations commonly found in single-clocked FPGA designs by allowing hardware components to operate at a higher clock frequency than the surrounding system. However, this optimization cannot be expressed in high levels of abstraction, such as HLS, requiring the use of hand-optimized RTL. In this paper we show how to leverage multiple clock domains for computational subdomains on reconfigurable devices through data movement analysis on high-level programs. We offer a novel view on multi-pumping as a compiler optimization — a superclass of traditional vectorization. As multiple data elements are fed and consumed, the computations are packed temporally rather than spatially. The optimization is applied automatically using an intermediate representation that maps high-level code to HLS. Internally, the optimization injects modules into the generated designs, incorporating RTL for fine-grained control over the clock domains. We obtain a reduction of resource consumption by up to 50% on critical components and 23% on average. For scalable designs, this can enable further parallelism, increasing overall performance.

The paper analyzes approaches to the engineering of multi-agent robotic systems for agricultural production processes, including harvesting. The system is presented in the form of typical state machines for simulating the states of robots with implicitly defined scenarios that allow automatic planning and monitoring of tasks in real time. The structure and the HDL-model of a group control system for autonomous robots and related devices for picking fruits and berries operating as part of a multi-agent group have been formed. In experiments on modeling a group of robots for tasks with implicitly defined scenarios, examples related to the collection of fruits and berries are considered. The simulation results fully confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms for the automated generation and execution of scenarios. © 2020 ieee.
