An extensive list of time-sensitive applications requiring ultra-low latency ranging from a few microseconds to a few milliseconds are presented in recent publications and ieee standards. Time-sensitive applications, include industrial, critical healthcare and transportation applications as also applications for Smart Grids and the Internet of Vehicles -- one of the most active research fields of Intelligent Transportation Systems of Smart Cities. In this work, we mainly set our focus on the suite of safety applications which attracts strong interest from the research community, as it aims to avoid road accidents and save lives. The ieee Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) set of standards specifies fundamental real-time characteristics. Nevertheless, as TSN works on Data Link layer (Layer 2 of the OSI model) the benefits of these characteristics fade away when other layers are crossed from the Application layer (Layer 7). Indicatively, recent research works report latencies on the order of tens of seconds when benchmarking Data Stream processing and IoT platforms, and thus they are not suited for time-critical applications. Such platforms mainly use loosely coupled components with asynchronous communication. On Application layer, we propose a novel End-to-End Synchronous, distributed Architecture for Large-Scale, High-Bandwidth, Ultra-Low Latency Data Stream processing. Through our Big Data Stream analysis experiments (4.7 Gbit/s total average aggregated throughput, 1 Terabyte in-memory distributed database, 4 milliseconds average query latency) we have demonstrated the suitability of our architecture for time-sensitive applications such as accident avoidance for the Internet of Vehicles.

parallel computing has become a cornerstone of modern computational systems, enabling the rapid processing of complex tasks by utilizing multiple processors simultaneously. However, the efficiency and reliability of these systems can be significantly compromised by inherent challenges such as hardware failures, communication delays, and uneven workload distribution. These issues not only slow down computations but also threaten the dependability of applications reliant on parallel processing. To address these challenges, researchers have developed strategies like dynamic checkpointing and load balancing, which are crucial for enhancing fault tolerance and optimizing performance. Dynamic checkpointing periodically saves the computational state, allowing for recovery from failures without significant data loss, while load balancing ensures that tasks are evenly distributed across processors, preventing bottlenecks and underutilization of resources. By integrating these mechanisms, this paper proposes a robust framework that improves the reliability and efficiency of parallel systems, particularly in high-performance computing environments where the ability to handle large-scale data processing with minimal downtime is critical. © 2024 ieee.

With the rapid development of edge computing technology, the application of edge computing in smart grids has become more and more extensive. But edge computing has not yet been applied to the operation control of distributed power generation microgrid systems. This article proposes a microgrid-oriented edge computing architecture. First, we introduce the main functions of edge-cloud collaboration. Then we explain the construction plan of the architecture, including the realization of data processing, network communication and security mechanisms. Finally, we introduce the architecture application practice in a rural community in Central China.

The number of open source language models that can produce Turkish is increasing day by day, as in other languages. In order to create the basic versions of such models, the training of multilingual models is usually continued with Turkish corpora. The alternative is to train the model with only Turkish corpora. In this study, we first introduce the cosmosGPT models that we created with this alternative method. Then, we introduce new finetune datasets for basic language models to fulfill user requests and new evaluation datasets for measuring the capabilities of Turkish language models. Finally, a comprehensive comparison of the adapted Turkish language models on different capabilities is presented. The results show that the language models we built with the monolingual corpus have promising performance despite being about 10 times smaller than the others.

Modern enterprises are facing a massive threat from Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), which have risen to be one of the most dangerous challenges in recent years. Since system logs capture the complex causality dependencies between system entities, they have become the primary data source for countering APTs. However, as modern computer systems get more complicated, system logs can pile up in large quantities. Besides, APTs are sophisticated and persistent cyber attacks that can remain hidden in the target for a long time and constantly steal private data. System logs need to be collected and stored for a long duration to enable a complete analysis of APTs. Such a vast amount of log data is challenging for enterprises to store and manage. There are two mainstream solutions for reducing storage overhead. Data compression methods provide an intuitive idea. However, they are designed for general text and lack optimization for system logs. Another solution considers log reduction, which removes redundant system events recorded in system logs by predefined rules. Unfortunately, they are tailored for specific kinds of redundant information, resulting in limited applicability. Realizing that these two solutions adopt two distinct perspectives to reduce storage overhead, they are complementary. Data compression methods shrink the size of log data from their binary form. Log reduction starts from the semantic information of system logs and removes redundant information to reduce storage overhead. Combining both methods maximizes storage efficiency. In this paper, we propose a distributed storage system based on a hybrid compression scheme. To address the above deficiencies, we first identify and merge redundant system events by analyzing and tracing the information flow rather than based on rules. Then, we apply log parsing to preprocess log entries for further storage efficiency. Besides, we design a distributed architecture to optimize compression and eliminate repeated

Lattice cryptography, as a recognized Cryptosystem that can resist quantum computation, has great potential for development. Lattice based signature scheme is currently a research focus. In this paper, the traceable ring signature scheme based on lattice cryptography in the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) environment is studied. Firstly, users' public and private keys are generated on the lattice, which effectively reduces the key size and time cost. Secondly, the scheme also achieves traceability by adding additional information. The scheme satisfies strong unforgeability, traceability, and anonymity. In addition, the traceable ring signature scheme based on lattice cryptography is applied in the IoV environment to effectively protect user privacy. Model communication can not only protect user privacy, but also trace the signer when necessary, achieving a balance between security and privacy. The simulation results show that the average delay of IoV of our scheme is better than that of similar schemes. The research in this paper improves the security of data transmission in the IoV environment, enables it to adapt to the complex and changeable new network environment, and effectively guarantees the information security of vehicles and owners. © 2023 ieee.

Despite state-of-the-art caching strategies, graph analytics pose a significant challenge for prefetching and replacement policies, as their access patterns are often random with low locality. Prior attempts at addressing these issues involved architectural solutions such as specialized graph prefetchers, compressed graph representation stored in a reserved cache section, or graph reordering for custom replacement policies. However, combining these solutions required extensive modifications to the processor architecture. In this paper, we propose Expressive Caching for Graphs (ECG), which masks the graph clustering knowledge with previous cache optimization techniques into the unused bits (ECG hits) of the graph vertex ID. The processor pipeline's specialized graph addressing mode can extract the vertex ID from the graph edge list to request property data while utilizing the masked ECG bits to determine the replacement policy for better caching and prefetching the next related vertex.

High-performance computing (HPC) has become an essential tool for improving the efficiency and scalability of transaction processing systems, especially as data volumes continue to grow in fields like finance, e-commerce, and blockchain. This paper presents a comparative study of parallel and sequential transaction processing methods using an SQLite database. Specifically, the research investigates the impact of HPC techniques on transaction throughput, processing speed, and efficiency by simulating 1,000 user transactions. The study employs Python's multiprocessing module to simulate parallel execution, contrasting it with traditional sequential execution. Key performance indicators, including execution time, transaction success rate, and system efficiency, were analyzed to determine the advantages of parallel processing in a transaction-heavy environment. Our results reveal that parallel execution significantly reduces processing time, boosts throughput, and increases overall system efficiency compared to sequential processing. Additionally, the study discusses how parallel processing techniques can address common bottlenecks in transaction-heavy applications and provide solutions for improving the performance of large-scale, data-intensive systems. The findings demonstrate the potential for using HPC to optimize database operations, particularly in systems where high-volume transaction processing is a critical requirement. Future work will explore advanced parallelization strategies, fault tolerance mechanisms, and integrations with distributed databases and blockchain systems. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on optimizing transaction processing in high-performance computing environments, with potential applications across various sectors, including financial services, e-commerce, and blockchain technology. © 2024 ieee.

The s-step Conjugate Gradient (CG) algorithm has the potential to reduce the communication cost of standard CG by a factor of s. However, though mathematically equivalent, s-step CG may be numerically less stable compared to standard CG in finite precision, exhibiting slower convergence and decreased attainable accuracy. This limits the use of s-step CG in practice. To improve the numerical behavior of s-step CG and overcome this potential limitation, we incorporate two techniques. First, we improve convergence behavior through the use of higher precision at critical parts of the s-step iteration and second, we integrate a residual replacement strategy into the resulting mixed precision s-step CG to improve attainable accuracy. Our experimental results on the Summit Supercomputer demonstrate that when the higher precision is implemented in hardware, these techniques have virtually no overhead on the iteration time while improving both the convergence rate and the attainable accuracy of s-step CG. Even when the higher precision is implemented in software, these techniques may still reduce the time-to-solution (speedups of up to 1.8x in our experiments), especially when s-step CG suffers from numerical instability with a small step size and the latency cost becomes a significant part of its iteration time.

While hierarchically low-rank compression methods are now commonly available in both dense and sparse direct solvers, their usage for the direct solution of coupled sparse/dense linear systems has been little investigated. The solution of such systems is though central for the simulation of many important physics problems such as the simulation of the propagation of acoustic waves around aircrafts. Indeed, the heterogeneity of the jet flow created by reactors often requires a Finite Element Method (FEM) discretization, leading to a sparse linear system, while it may be reasonable to assume as homogeneous the rest of the space and hence model it with a Boundary Element Method (BEM) discretization, leading to a dense system. In an industrial context, these simulations are often operated on modern multicore workstations with fully-featured linear solvers. Exploiting their low-rank compression techniques is thus very appealing for solving larger coupled sparse/dense systems (hence ensuring a finer solution) on a given multicore workstation, and of course - possibly do it fast. The standard method performing an efficient coupling of sparse and dense direct solvers is to rely on the Schur complement functionality of the sparse direct solver. However, to the best of our knowledge, modern fully-featured sparse direct solvers offering this functionality return the Schur complement as a non compressed matrix. In this paper, we study the opportunity to process larger systems in spite of this constraint. For that we propose two classes of algorithms, namely multi-solve and multi-factorization, consisting in composing existing parallel sparse and dense methods on well chosen submatrices. An experimental study conducted on a 24 cores machine equipped with 128 GiB of RAM shows that these algorithms, implemented on top of state-of-the-art sparse and dense direct solvers, together with proper low-rank assembly schemes, can respectively process systems of 9 million and 2.5 million to
