The ieeejournal of selectedtopics in Quantum Electronics (JSTQE) invites manuscript submissions in the area of Silicon Photonics. Silicon photonics has been the subject of intense research activity in both industry and academia as a compelling technology paving the way for next generation energy-efficient high-speed computing, information processing and communications systems. The trend is to use optics in intimate proximity to electronic circuits, which implies a high level of optoelectronic integration. This evolution towards silicon-based technologies is largely based on the vision that silicon provides a mature integration platform supported by the enormous existing CMOS manufacturing infrastructure which can be used to cost-effectively produce integrated optoelectronic circuits for a wide range of applications. The deadline for submission of manuscripts is October 1, 2013.

This special issue of the ieee Transactions on Biomedical circuits and systems comprises expanded versions of selected papers presented at the 2010 ieee International Symposium of circuits and systems (ISCAS 2010) held in Paris, France, from May 30 to June 2, 2010. The main theme of ISCAS 2010, Nano-bio circuit fabrics and systems, was highly synergistic with the focus of the Transac tions on emerging advances at the interface between circuits, systems, and biomedicine. Starting from a comprehensive list of 120 papers that were presented at the Biomedical circuits and systems, Sensors, Neural systems, and Live demonstration sessions at the symposium, we selected eight papers which were highly rated by the ISCAS 2010 reviewers and which represented different areas of biomedical circuits and systems. After a thorough peer-review process, we selected a final set of papers for this Special Issue, covering circuits and sys tems-related topics in neural prosthesis, bio-telemetry, power management, and stimulators. While there were undoubtedly many other excellent papers that were presented at the ISCAS 2010, in this compilation, we strived to include high-quality papers that cover diverse areas of interest for the readers of this journal.
