Source location accuracy can be dramatically degraded by the inaccuracy in the sensor positions. The sensor position errors need to be taken into account in order to improve the source location estimate. This paper presents an algorithm based on the Taylor-series technique to estimate the location of an emitting source in the presence of random sensor position errors, where the data measurements are angle-of-arrivals (AoAs). The proposed algorithm jointly estimates the source and sensor positions iteratively by using Taylor-series linearization. Simulation results indicate that the proposed method approaches the CRLB accuracy for both near-field and far-field sources.

Deterministic broadband time-varying pulses such as chirp signals are widely used in seismic applications to determine the layering structure of the earth. Various broadband matched field processors (MFP) which have been already developed for use in inversion [1,2] rely on only their frequency distribution so their performance fail in the presence of similar powerful broadband correlated noises. Because chirp and other deterministic time-varying signals have distinct signatures in time-frequency space, we have introduced a cross relation based MFP in time-frequency space that incorporates these signatures in the processing to counter the effect of broadband correlated noises in the received data. Additionally, white noise can be removed by using a Cross-cross relation (CCR) time-frequency (TF)-MFP that contains only cross components of the received signals in its structure. We demonstrate the advantages of this process over the conventional MFPs to date.

The time-reversal field processing technique for active remote sensing is re-interpreted in the conceptual framework of subspace-based signal processing. Although both of these subjects have a long and extensive history, we believe that our work is the first to relate these two rather different signal processing approaches. The concept at the heart of both approaches is the multi-static Frequency Response Matrix (FRM) of the active antenna array. It is a function of array/scatterer geometry (via a suitable Green function) and of the scatterers' reflection coefficients. The time-reversal technique locates the most reflective target by determining the largest singular value of the FRM and the corresponding (right) singular vector. Consequently, it performs well only when the scatterers are "well-resolved," i.e., when the Green function vectors used in forming the FRM are approximately orthogonal to each other. In contrast, we show that subspace based signal processing can be successfully used even when the targets are not "well-resolved.'' Moreover, the performance of our subspace-based schemes can be further enhanced by using wideband signals and combining FRM information from multiple frequencies. The coupling of time-reversal field. processing with subspace methods leads to a powerful approach for locating targets under arbitrary wave-propagation conditions (both near-field and far-field), including arbitrary non-homogeneous media and arbitrary geometries.

In this work, we propose a distributed power control algorithm able to capture the tradeoff between detection capabilities and power consumption for a radar sensor network. This is achieved by modeling the radar sensors as rational agents engaging in a noncooperative game in which the detection threshold and the transmit power are properly designed according to the Nash equilibrium solution. An iterative algorithm based on a best-response dynamics is proposed to achieve the equilibrium point and its performance is compared to that achieved by a uniform power allocation.

Subspace estimation is of importance to high-resolution direction estimation in array processing. In this paper, a new recursive least-squares (RLS) algorithm is proposed for null space estimation, which is used to estimate or track the directions of coherent and/or incoherent signals impinging on a uniform linear array (ULA). Especially by investigating the expectation computation of an inverse matrix, the statistical analysis of the RLS algorithm is studied in the mean and mean-squares senses in stationary environment, and further the mean-square-error (MSE) and mean-square derivation (MSD) learning curves are derived explicitly. The theoretical analyses and effectiveness of the proposed RLS algorithm are substantiated through numerical examples.

In this paper, we apply a nonlinear frequency modulation scheme based on arctangent function to waveform diverse array system to design a transmitted beampattern to focus the signal power at a specific position. Distinct from most of the existing methodologies, the proposed method overcomes the problem that the focusing performance of the signal power will decrease when considering the propagation process of the transmitted signal. As a result, the transmitted signal power can be focused at a desired position and be lasting for a period of time. Numerical simulations validate the theoretical analysis of the proposed methodology.

This paper address the problem of direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of quasi-stationary signals based on uniform linear array with malfunctioning sensors. By utilizing the subspace structures of the local second-order statistics of quasi-stationary signals, a Khatri-Rao subspace approach is developed. Our scheme first collects the local covariance matrices of the source signals and then transfers them into a new virtual linear array which can identify at least twice as much DOAs as to the original physical one. It is also shown that the coprime configuration is a special case of the proposed model therefore the same techniques can be applied directly. Simulations are also carried out for the comparison of the proposed algorithm and state-of-the-art approaches.

In this paper, an alternative Target Density Function (TDF) is proposed to image the radar targets in a dense target environment. It is obtained by considering a novel range and scanning angle plane different from the conventional methods. An alternative method is briefly proposed for smoothing the target density function by taking advantage of Walsh functions. Although the imaging is obtained via the phased array radars, the problem associated with beamforming in linear phased array radar system is bypassed in this new algorithm.

This paper presents two fast and computationally efficient interferometric algorithms that allow high accuracy, unambiguous angle-of-arrival (AOA) estimates to be obtained using physically large wideband antennas that are suitable for electronic surveillance. The performance of the algorithms are compared against conventional interferometric techniques using simulations and are also verified experimentally.

This paper proposes an iterative compensation method to deal with relative change of sound source location caused by rapid movements of a microphone array and a sound source. This method introduces a delay filter that has shifted and sampled sinc functions. This paper presents a concept that applies both the error function of the adaptive algorithms to estimate two-dimensional direction-of-arrival and the coordinate system of a moving microphone array. This method directly estimates the relative directions of the microphone array to the sound source directions by minimizing the relative differences of arrival time among the observed signals, not by estimating the time difference of arrival (TDOA) between two observed signals. This method compensates the time delay of the observed signals simultaneously, and it has a feature to ensure that the output signals are in phase. Simulation results support effectiveness of the method.
