The driver is a semiotic system that interprets and responds to sensory input according to a context. This context is provided by a mental model-an internal representation employed to encode, predict, evaluate, and communicate the consequences of perceived and intended changes to the operator's current state within the dynamic environment. Having constructed computational models of skill-based control, we develop the framework of multiple coordinating mental models via rule-based task switching and present preliminary empirical efforts at identifying and coordinating multiple mental models for human-based car following behavior.

We first elaborate on the definition of an elementary unit of knowledge, called the knowledge unit. Then we define three knowledge operators-knowledge extraction, knowledge generation and knowledge selection-aimed at being the elementary ways of reasoning. These are compared to the traditional deduction, induction and abduction reasoning operators, resulting in the proposal that our knowledge operators could be viewed as generalized interpretations of the standard deduction, induction and abduction reasoning procedures. We finalize by proposing them as the building blocks for universal intelligent systems.

We describe an approach to achieve dynamic adaption of an artificial agent society to environmental changes. Such changes cause sub-optimalities in the agent society design, leading to overloaded or underloaded agents or agent groups in the society. Our approach provides a mechanism to reveal these sub-optimalities by integrating bottleneck analysis to structural self-adaption in a generic multi-agent framework which allows one to incorporate agents of any architecture.
