The TCP-100 parabolic trough collectors research facility at Plataforma Solar de Almería (CIEMAT) has replaced the 32 years old ACUREX research plant, widely used in Automatic control research. The new TCP-100 structure poses new challenges in the design of more sophisticated operation modes. This paper presents a hybrid first principles system level model of the TCP-100 facility, which is based on two connected parts: a previously published non-linear continuous dynamic model, and a discrete part modelling the behaviour of an operator. This model is able to cover the different operation modes of the plant and proves its applicability for operation training activities. The discrete part of the model characterizes the operation procedure using both the StateGraph formalism in the Modelica object oriented modelling language, and the Dymola tool. We illustrate the validity of our hybrid model by simulating two different operation procedures applied to the TCP-100 plant model in a typical operation day in which the system passes through several operating modes. © 2020 ieee.

The past decade has witnessed a surge in research activities related to adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) and reinforcement learning (RL), particularly for control applications. Several books [item 1)–5) in the Appendix] and survey papers [item 6)–10) in the Appendix] have been published on the subject. Both ADP and RL provide approximate solutions to dynamic programming problems. In a 1995 article by Barto et al. [item 11) in the Appendix], they introduced the so-called “adaptive real-time dynamic programming,” which was specifically to apply ADP for real-time control. Later, in 2002, Murray et al. [item 12) in the Appendix] developed an ADP algorithm for optimal control of continuous-time affine nonlinear systems. On the other hand, the most famous algorithms in RL are the temporal difference algorithm [item 13) in the Appendix] and the Q-learning algorithm [item 14) and 15) in the Appendix].

In the research and application of Agent-Based Models (ABM), parameter calibration is an important content. Based on the existing state transfer equations that link the micro-parameters and macro-states of the multi-agent system, this paper further proposes to introduce Reinforcement Learning when calibrating the parameters. The state transfer of the agent after learning is used to calibrate the micro-parameters of ABM, and the interaction between each agent and multiple other agents is expressed as the parameters of the agent. The application case study of population migration demonstrates that our method can achieve high accuracy and low computational complexity.

The automatic storage yard is an essential component in the construction of the intelligent harbor. In the process of constructing an automatic storage yard, the distributed crane control system is critical. However, during the operation process of the distributed crane control system, the video switching mechanism randomly assigns tasks to operators by switching surveillance videos, which limits the efficiency of the distributed crane control system. This paper solves the video switching problem as a task assignment problem, and a mixed-integer linear programming model is established. The branch and bound algorithm is adopted to solve the model on Lingo17.0. The experimental results show that the dynamic video switching mechanism proposed in this paper is efficient.

This work deals with the vibration absorption problem on a flexible mechanical oscillator, discretized in one degree of freedom, by using linear and nonlinear absorbers. The passive control of the undesirable oscillations in the primary system is performed with a pendulum absorber (Tuned Mass Damper configuration) as well as by an autoparametric cantilever beam type. This attenuation approach is experimentally validated using a building-like structure which is mounted on a Stewart platform and harmonically excited on its base under resonant conditions and coupled to the two different vibration absorbers mentioned above. The action of the vibration absorption is evaluated from dynamic and frequency domain where the advantages and disadvantages of each passive vibration absorber are mentioned.

The deep learning methods trained with large-scale manually annotated datasets have led to significant breakthroughs in medical image community. However, obtaining such datasets remains a challenging work in medical domain. In this paper, we propose an ACP-based approach named parallel medical imaging (PMI) for analyzing and addressing the small sample problem of medical image recognition. Firstly, we present the basic framework and key techniques of PMI, in which the Artificial imaging systems are constructed to effectively augment the “medical small sample”, the computational experiments are carried out for designing and evaluating the visual models trained with small samples, and the Parallel execution is conducted to achieve closed-loop interaction and optimization in the domain-knowledge guidance. Furthermore, we illustrate a preliminary implementation and application of PMI approach through the case study of mammogram analysis.

Machine learning methods have been widely employed in robotics over the years, and recent developments in machine learning have completely re-shaped problem-solving in the area. Indeed, if we consider multi-objective planning, these models' optimization and learning capabilities can derive more robust strategies. Inspired by the species natural selection mechanism, Evolutionary Algorithms (EA) are among the best known computational approaches available for this purpose. In this scenario, this work proposed an EA model developed to find the best travel trajectory for a quadcopter in the "Desafio Petrobras" challenge. In the challenge, a set of landing platforms that the robot has to visit are displaced in the 3D-space. To find the best trajectory possible, we optimize an EA over a low-level control that can take the quadcopter from point A to B. We vary our fitness function to support more complex decisions. The software-in-the-loop technique was applied for a simulated quadrotor in the Coppelia simulated environment. The proposed approach has shown the capability to generate short trajectories while considering variables like UAV dynamics and energy consumption.

When dealing with complex scenes, human cognitive system can get useful information quickly and accurately. This is because that human visual and auditory systems have the important characteristic of selective attention. In order to simulate and realize this feature, much selective attention computational models have been proposed by scholars in the field of computer vision and auditory, which are of great value and significance to artificial intelligence, video compression, speech processing and other fields. This article provides a review of modelling studies of visual and auditory attention. The deficiency of the current research was provided, together with the future research directions. © 2020 ieee.

The rapid development of economy and technology has led to the increase of electricity demand recently. Thus, grasping the trend and change rules of power load is beneficial to the reasonable planning of power system and dispatching of power resources. As there are certain regularities in the general power load data, we find that, in the general framework and form of sine neural network (SNN), the multiple sine functions decomposition method, also in this paper specifically termed sine functions fitting (SFF), is a kind of effective method for power load prediction tasks based on the analysis of periodic change of power load and long-term change trend characteristics. Considering the fact that the more recent period of power load data has a stronger correlation to future power load, we further propose sine functions fitting with relearning (SFF-R). The SFF-R method can improve the forecasting accuracy of the future power load by strengthening the learning of the power load data in the recent period. Through comparative experiments, it can be concluded that the SFF-R method is superior in predicting future power load trend. The SFF-R method not only achieves good prediction performance, but also has lower computational complexity for practical applications. Finally, the SFF-R method, as an improved method of multiple functions decomposition, is used to predict the trend of power load of twelve countries in the next two years. © 2021 ieee

With the rapid development and modernization requirement of global coal industry, there is an emerging need for intelligent and unmanned mining systems. In this paper, the Intelligent Mining Operating System (IMOS) is proposed and developed, based on the parallel management and control of mining operating infrastructure that integrates the intelligent mining theory, the ACP-based (Artificial societies, computational experiments, Parallel execution) parallel intelligence approaches, and the new generation of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. To satisfy the intelligent and unmanned demand of open-pit mines, the IMOS architecture is developed by integrating the theory of digital quadruplets. The main subsystems and functions of IMOS are elaborated in detail, including a single-vehicle operating subsystem, multi-vehicle collaboration subsystem, vehicle-road collaboration subsystem, unmanned intelligent subsystem, dispatch management subsystem, parallel management and control subsystem, supervisory subsystem, remote takeover subsystem, and communication subsystem. The IMOS presented in this paper is the first integrated solution for intelligent and unmanned mines in China, and has been implemented over ten main open pits in the past few years. Its deployment and utilization will effectively improve the production efficiency and safety level of open-pit mines, promote the construction of ecological mines, and bring great significance to the realization of sustainable mining development.
