AI in robotics involves the application of efficient algorithm and computational techniques that allows robots to operate independently, learn from the environment and make efficient decisions. However, in current studies, mostly contact methods that cannot be learned and do not respond to change are used despite the progress made in this regard. These approaches often fail to respond in real-time to а certain issue, which can result in inefficiency and low overall operational performance. To overcome these shortcomings, this paper presents a new technique in which DRL (Deep Reinforcement Learning) is used for motion control of a robotic arm and limb in retail automation. DRL allows the robotic system to learn the best motion profiles from playing a game with its surroundings with reduced chances of a less optimum setting due to changing environmental conditions. The most important peculiarities of the proposed approach include integration of enhanced neural structures and realization of automatic learning and decision-making. The effectiveness of the DRL approach is shown to be considerably higher than that of traditional ones, with accuracy reaching 99.3%. Such outcomes speak to the prospects to transform robotics through DRL knowledge and skills to enhance real-time adaptation and increase effectiveness. Lastly, this research enhances the existing literature in AI & Robotics and accordingly establishes the foundation for further developments of intelligent automation systems in various fields. © 2025 ieee.

Hardware-in-The-Loop (HIL) simulators play a critical role in the automotive industry by providing extensive testing and validation capabilities for electronic control units (ECUs). One of the main challenges faced by HIL simulators involves the task of constructing a virtual environment that accurately replicate the behavior of the actual system. Artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms can be useful in generating precise virtual environments for HIL simulations of complex systems. Moreover, minimal latency is essential for establishing a reliable virtual environment. FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) can effectively reduce latency in HIL simulations by providing high-performance computing resources. This paper aims to address these challenge by introducing a machine learning-driven HIL simulator implemented on FPGA. The proposed architecture employs FPGA technology to enhance the computational speed of a temporal convolutional neural network (TCN). © 2023 ieee.

Online traffic simulation that feeds from online information to simulate vehicle movement in real-time has recently seen substantial advancement in the development of intelligent transportation systems and urban traffic *** has been a challenging problem due to three aspects:1)The diversity of traffic patterns due to heterogeneous layouts of urban intersections;2)The nature of complex spatiotemporal correlations;3)The requirement of dynamically adjusting the parameters of traffic models in a real-time *** cater to these challenges,this paper proposes an online traffic simulation framework called automated urban traffic operation simulation via meta-learning(AUTOSIM).In particular,simulation models with various intersection layouts are automatically generated using an open-source simulation tool based on static traffic geometry *** a meta-learning technique,AUTOSIM enables an automated learning process for dynamic model settings of traffic scenarios featured with different spatiotemporal ***,AUTOSIM is capable of adapting traffic model parameters according to dynamic traffic information in real-time by using a *** computational experiments,we demonstrate the effectiveness of the meta-learningbased framework that is capable of providing reliable supports to real-time traffic simulation and dynamic traffic operations.

With the spread of Internet of Things (IoT) different radio communication-based technologies are gaining more attention, and their application in indoor localization problems where GPS signal is not available, becomes more and more relevant. This paper addresses the trilateration algorithm-based position estimation approach in indoor localization;this approach uses Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) value with the Free Space Path Loss (FSPL) model. Comprehensive laboratory measurements were performed with different radio communication-based technologies namely 433 MHz RSSI, 2.4 GHz WiFi RSSI, ultra-wideband (UWB) RSSI, and UWB Time of Flight (TOF). Then, numerical optimization using the Particle Swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to determine the parameters of the FSPL model for each anchor and each technology. This method enabled the utilization of trilateration to calculate the position of the measurement node. The obtained results show that the 433 MHz RSSI and the UWB TOF outperform the other two technologies. Using UWB TOF technology, the achieved accuracy was 165.97 cm. 433 MHz RSSI technology provided the second-best solution with 166.60 cm. WiFi RSSI provided 227.89 cm accuracy, while the worst case was obtained by UWB RSSI with 252.08 cm. The study experimentally validates that the most appropriate measurements are provided by UWB TOF and 433 MHz RSSI, which enables the implementation of these technologies in sensor fusion algorithms. © 2023 ieee.

The operation of coal-fired power plants emits a significant amount of SO2, causing a considerable environmental challenge. Wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) is the mostly used desulfurization method in current practice for address this issue, however, the simultaneous optimization of desulfurization efficiency and cost remains challenging. Aiming to achieve optimal performance and reduce the computational complexity, this paper proposes a novel multi-objective non-dominated sorting beluga whale optimization (NSBWO) algorithm to concurrently optimize desulfurization efficiency and cost. Derived from the NSGA-II framework, the NSBWO algorithm adopts the beluga whale algorithm to generate offspring instead of the conventional genetic algorithm used in the original algorithm. This modification alleviates the concerns about performance dependence on user-defined parameters, enhancing its performance in multi-objective optimization. Experimental results demonstrate that, compared to classical algorithms, NSBWO exhibits superior overall performance and faster convergence speed. Finally, the algorithm is applied to real-world data sourced from the flue gas desulfurization system of a 1000MW coal-fired power plant unit. The obtained results validate the algorithm's effectiveness in optimizing both the efficiency and cost of the wet flue gas desulfurization system. © 2024 ieee.

Hydrogen is one of the most promising and clean energy sources, which is being used in various fields. It has a high explosive potential in the concentration range between 4 to 74.2 vol%. Thus, a suitable monitoring for the early detection of leakages is necessary to prevent serious accidents. Hydrogen is odorless, colorless, and undetectable by the senses of smell and sight. The monitoring of the gas concentrations in the indoor air is therefore of particular importance. In this paper, the testing and integration of a thermal conductivity-based hydrogen sensor is presented. The sensor was tested with hydrogen gas leakages in a chemical laboratory using specific chemical reactions. Furthermore, the sensor was integrated with an ambient monitoring sensor node that is used for the detecting of leakages of hazardous gases in chemical laboratories and industrial locations. The evaluation of the sensor performance revealed that it could be used efficiently for detecting the leakages of hydrogen gas and it is very flexible to be adapted to any system with an I2C communication bus. © 2023 ieee.

Steel production involves many energy-intensive processes. Under the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, it is essential to study the steel production scheduling problems aiming at energy saving to realize the green manufacturing of steel production processes. Aiming at the hot rolling process of high-quality steel products, a novel energy-saving production scheduling problem is studied in this paper. Unlike existing research, this paper additionally considers temperature constraints and the optimization of temperature-keeping equipment assignment in producing high-quality steel products. To solve it efficiently, this paper presents an improved simulated annealing algorithm where destruction and construction strategies from iterated greedy algorithms are embedded into it. Experimental results show that the presented algorithm has obvious advantages compared with other competitive peers. Its excellent solution performance means its great application potential. © 2023 ieee.

Indoor Positioning Systems (IPSs), which commonly rely on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), are gaining attention in various fields due to the emergence of Industry 4.0. In this paper, a novel Weighted K-Nearest Neighbor (WKNN) -based localization algorithm is proposed for the fusion of different wireless parameters. An experiment was set up for evaluation and measurements were performed in a laboratory. The essence of the novel method is that different wireless communication technologies, namely, 2.4 GHz WiFi Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), 433 MHz CC1101 RSSI, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) RSSI, and UWB Time of Arrival (TOA) were combined for localization purposes. The proposed algorithm has two steps. In the first step the technologies are used separately to calculate the searched position. In the second step the average of the estimated coordinates is taken in all possible combination of the technologies. The original WKNN method considers the data together provided by each technology. The proposed WKNN algorithm provided better results in 5 cases than the original WKNN method. The improvement ranged from 0.7% to 15%. The largest improvement was achieved by using WiFi and CC1101 RSSI together, when the average error was reduced from 1.86 m to 1.58 m. The results show that it is worthwhile to adaptively select the appropriate fusion of technologies, as this can significantly reduce the localization error. © 2023 ieee.

computational social systems (CSSs) focus on topics such as modeling, simulation, analysis, and understanding of social systems from the quantitative and/or computational perspective. “Systems” can be man–man, man–machine, and machine–machine organizations and adversarial situations as well as social media structures and their dynamics [1] , [2] . With the advance of the Internet of Things and communication technologies, various kinds of data from diverse areas can be acquired nowadays. As a result, CSSs are becoming ever more complex. Data-driven CSSs aim to conduct pre-competitive research on architectures and design, modeling, and analysis techniques for cyber-physical systems, with emphasis on making full use of big data and artificial intelligence. These applications include transportation systems, automation, security, smart buildings, smart cities, medical systems, energy generation and distribution, water distribution, agriculture, military systems, process control, asset management, and robotics [3] , [4] , [5] . However, due to the progressive transformation from host-centric networking to information-centric networking, CSSs pose fundamental challenges in multiple aspects, such as heterogeneous data generation, efficient data sensing and collection, real-time data processing, and greater request arrival rates. Thus, there is a great need for a powerful way that can deal with emerging issues in data-driven CSSs more efficiently and effectively in the age of big data.
