The purposes of this study were to investigate the effects of target locations on the demand of postural stability and to compare the involvement extent of bilateral lower limbs. The postural stability was measured by individual feet center of pressure (CoP). The proximal and distal end of the CoP line and the maximum CoP displacement in anterior-posterior direction were determined by custom-written Matlab programs and were expressed as percentage of foot length. Side of foot and target location interaction effects were significant only on CoP maximal anterior-posterior displacement (p = .008). The target location didn't affect the proximal end of the CoP line (p = .265) either did it affect the difference between feet as measured by the same parameter. The target location affected the distal end of the CoP line (p < .001) and the CoP maximal anterior-posterior displacement (p < .001 ) significantly, but only the later parameter showed the difference between feet when the targets were far/in the middle (p < .001) and on the paretic side (p = .008). The pedeography also show the target effects on CoP and different extent of bilateral limbs involvement. Change of target location can change the extent of the involvement of bilateral limbs and the parameters in this study were effective to show the effects. The relationship between CoP measures and neuromuscular control of the lower limb needs further investigations

Upper-body rehabilitation is a prime component of therapy sessions for individuals diagnosed with a neurological disorder. One of the most common causes of mobility impairments in children is Cerebral Palsy;it affects 3.1 of 1000 of those born in the US annually. Thus, the development of effective therapies is of significant interest, especially for this target population. Prior research has validated that early intervention enhances the individual's quality of life. A recent innovative approach to upper-body rehabilitation therapy is SuperPop VR, a virtual reality serious game shown to increase motivation and performance in children during physical therapy sessions. Previously, a humanoid robotic playmate, the DARwIn-OP, was used to interact with users during game sessions as a socially interactive therapy coach. The goal of the study in this paper is to determine whether appearance matters - i.e. if a different robotic platform is utilized as a therapy coach, will there be a difference in user performance? The kinematic parameter of movement time is used in this analysis. We also analyzed user intrinsic motivation with and without the humanoid robot. The results show that no statistical difference was found in user performance across platforms, thus indicating that socially interaction versus appearance is the primary criteria for enhancing rehabilitation goals when integrating a robot with SuperPop VR.

The well-known vehicle detectors utilize the background extraction methods to segment the moving objects. The background updating concept is applied to overcome the luminance variation which results in the error detection. These systems will meet a challenge when detecting the vehicles in the traffic jam conditions at sunset. The vehicles will cover the road surface so that the background information cannot be smoothly updated. Once the traffic is released, the existing background is not suitable for the moving segmentation. The main contribution of this paper is that an efficient vehicle detection approach is proposed to improve the detection accuracy in traffic jam conditions. The land mask decision gives the land information and the merged boundary box rule is presented to realize vehicle detection. The signed square normalized correlation coefficient calculation is addressed, and it is applied to vehicle tracking. The experimental results show that this approach works well in highway and urban area with high accuracy

This paper represents the next step in the development of the recently proposed single objective metaheuristic algorithm - Self-Organizing Migrating Algorithm with CLustering-aided migration and adaptive Perturbation vector control (SOMA-CLP). The CEC 2021 single objective bound-constrained optimization benchmark testbed was used for the performance evaluation of the modifications of the algorithm. The presented modifications were invoked by the results of CEC 2021 competition, where the SOMA-CLP ranked 7th out of 9 competing algorithms. This paper introduces three modifications of population organization process focusing on one particular phase of the SOMA-CLP algorithm aimed at exploitation. All results were compared and tested for statistical significance against the original variant using the Friedman rank test. The algorithm modification and analysis of the results presented here can be inspiring for other researchers working on the development and modifications of evolutionary computing techniques.

In this article, a model migration strategy based on subspace separation is proposed for process monitoring by taking advantage of common information between an old process and a new process. Firstly, a global basis vector is extracted and deemed to enclose the cross-set similar correlations. Then two different subspaces are separated from each other in the new dataset. The kernel principal component models are developed for the common and specific subspace respectively, and the monitoring is carried out in each subspace. The proposed strategy is illustrated with a simulated fed-batch penicillin fermentation. The results show that the strategy is effective.

In our research, we have studied the autonomous running control system of the automatic guided vehicles (AGV) used in the manufacturing facilities using the tablet PC. The moving direction of automatic vehicle is controlled by the results of image processing methods on captured images of the tablet PC. In the image processing step, after detecting edges we obtain wall-floor boundaries by analyzing those edges. By applying the least square method on the wall-floor boundaries, we calculate the moving direction of the AGV. To improve the accuracy of the moving direction, we divide the edge detection image into grid cells and remove all edges in cells with sparse edges. Furthermore, we divided all boundary points into vertical subdivisions, estimated unusual small boundaries and discarded them. As a result of our research, the running distance of the AGV was improved from 10 meters to the whole length of the testing course. The distance of testing course is 100 meters long.

The late twentieth century is actively working to conserve electrical energy. Street lights are vital;however they are expensive, consequently, there is a need to manage the system so that it becomes economical while also conserving energy adequately. Manually operating the street lights is a time-consuming and labor-intensive task. For this endeavor, we were inspired to create a street light monitoring system via automation, that could vastly exceed present street light control techniques. Because street lights are now handled continuously, there is a moderate waste of energy and effort. Using our technique, street lights may be turned on and off automatically, allowing us to adjust the intensity and energy consumption. This waste is also seen in places with low traffic at night where street lights are being used unsustainably. Our method guarantees that using a light-dependent resistor (LDR) and an infrared sensor (IR sensor), we can measure the density of traffic in the vicinity of the outdoor brightness and even the luminosity of ambient brightness in the immediate neighborhood, and use both data to control the street light's using SCADA function. © 2022 ieee.

This paper considers the problem of vehicle suspension control from the perspective of a Vehicle-to-Cloud-to-Vehicle (V2C2V) distributed implementation. A simplified variant of the problem is examined based on the linear quarter-car model of semi-active suspension dynamics. Road disturbance is modeled as a combination of a known road profile, an unmeasured stochastic road profile and potholes. Suspension response when the vehicle hits the pothole is modeled as an impulsive change in wheel velocity with magnitude linked to physical characteristics of the pothole and of the vehicle. The problem of selecting the optimal damping mode from a finite set of damping modes is considered, based on road profile data. The information flow and V2C2V implementation are defined based on partitioning the computations and data between the vehicle and the cloud. A simulation example is presented.

Multi-variate time series forecasting plays a crucial role in addressing key tasks across various domains, such as early warning, pre-planning, resource scheduling, and other critical tasks. Thus, accurate multi-variate time series forecasting is of significant importance in guiding practical applications and facilitating these essential tasks. Recently, Transformer-based multi-variate time series forecasting models have demonstrated tremendous potential due to their outstanding performance in long-term time predictions. However, Transformer-based models for multi-variate time series forecasting often come with high time complexity and computational costs. Therefore, we propose a low time complexity model called Fourier U-shaped Network (F-UNet) for multi-variate time series forecasting, which is non-Transformer based. Specifically, F-UNet is composed of low time complexity neural network components, such as Fourier neural operator and feed-forward neural network, arranged in a U-shaped architecture. F-UNet conducts channel and temporal modeling separately for the multi-variate time series. The U-Net constructed based on Fourier neural operators is employed to achieve channel interactions, while linear layers are used to realize temporal interactions. Experimental results on several real-world datasets demonstrate that F-UNet outperforms existing Transformer-based models with higher efficiency in multi-variate time series forecasting.
