Within a large group of decision makers, varying amounts of both conflicting and harmonious views will be prevalent within the group, but obscured due to group size. When the number of decision Makers is large, utilizing clustering during the process of aggregation of their views should aid both knowledge discovery - about the group's conflict and consensus - as well as helping to streamline the aggregation process to reach a group consensus. We conjecture that this can be realized by using the similarity of views of a large group of decision makers to define clusters of analogous opinions. From each cluster of decision makers, a representation of the views of its members can then be sought. This set of representations can then be utilized for aggregation to help reach a final whole group consensus.

Value-based decision is very complicated since many parties involved. Where a number of stakeholders are involved in choosing a single alternative from a set of solution alternatives, there are different concern caused by differing preferences, experiences, and background. Therefore, a negotiation is required to enable each stakeholder to evaluate and rank the solution alternatives before engaging into negotiation with the other stakeholders. decision techniques applied to determine the relative value of the alternative solutions for performing the function. The results demonstrate a comparison of aggregation and coalition formation in a multi criteria group decision and negotiation. It further emphasizes the importance of performance evaluation in the design process and value-based decision.

Linear bilevel programming has been studied for many years and applied in different domains such as transportation, economics, engineering, environment, and telecommunications. However, there is lack of attention of the impacts on dynamic decision making with abrupt or unusual events caused by unpredictable natural environment or human activities (e.g. Tsunami, earthquake, and malicious or terrorist attacks). In reality these events could happens more often and have more significant impacts on decision making in an increasingly complex and dynamic world. This paper addresses this unique problem by introducing a concept of Virtual Follower (VF). An extended model of bilevel multi-follower programming with a virtual follower (BLMFP-VF) is defined and the kth-best algorithm for solving this problem is proposed. An example is given to illustrate the working of the extended model and approach.

Information filtering is an important component in warning systems. This paper proposes a two-level information filtering model for generating warning information. In this model, information is represented by n-tuple, whose elements are values of information features. The features of information are divided into critical and uncritical features. Within this model, the collected information is filtered in two stages by users at different levels. At the first stage, exceptions are separated from normal information. And at the second stage, critical exceptions are separated from uncritical information. To illustration the proposed model, an example is discussed.

A visual interactive multi-criteria decision-making method for partitioning a portfolio of assets into mutually exclusive categories is presented. The two principal decision categories are hold and sell-portfolio assets in the sell category are considered as potential sale prospects, and the other assets in the portfolio are considered as potential retention prospects. The problem may be mathematically formulated as a multi-criteria 0/1 knapsack problem with multiple constraints. The decision-making method centers on the utilization of several coupled 2-D projections of the portfolio in the multi-dimensional criterion space. The decision-maker interacts with these projections in a variety of ways to express and record multi-category (hold, hold-bias, sell-bias, and sell) set partitioning preferences. The decision-maker may also set an aggregated preference threshold that is utilized for partitioning the portfolio into the two principal hold and sell categories. The decision-maker may further fine-tune their preferences and threshold settings so as to achieve a multitude of financial targets.

It is well established that making decisions from defined data according to various criteria requires the use of multicriteria decision Aiding or Analysis (MCDA) methods. However the necessary input data for these approaches are often ill-known especially when the data are a priori estimated. The common MCDA approaches consider these data as singular/scalar values. This paper deals with the consideration of more realistic, values by studying the impact of imprecision on a classical "precise" ranking established with ACUTA, a method based on additive utilities. We propose a generic approach to establish the concordance of pairwise relations of preference despite interval-based imprecision by complementing ACUTA with a computation of Kendall's index of concordance and of a threshold for maintaining this concordance. The methodology is applied to an industrial case subjected to Sustainable Development problems.

A multidisciplinary design an optimization framework based on the use of multi-objective evolutionary algorithms, together with decision making and robustness strategies, was used to optimize the polymer extrusion process. This methodology was applied with the aim to select the best solutions from the Pareto set in a multi-objective environment. The application to a complex polymer extrusion case study demonstrated the validity and usefulness of the approach. © 2014 ieee.

This paper introduces an effective computational environment for multi-objective decision-making, optimization and identification. The paper adopts multi-objective vector identification methodology and performance assessment provided by the Parameter Space Investigation method (PSI). The main feature of this methodology is in the fact that various design objectives are taken into consideration in their natural form without reducing dimensionality of the problem and therefore without distorting its nature. Therefore, there is no need for artificial convolution and weighting of multiple criteria. Moreover, the design alternatives are assessed explicitly versus multiple given requirements. The main practical purpose of this work is of twofold. First, we introduce an optimization framework and technique that allows to determine feasible and Pareto sets of the numerous uncertainties inherent for real-world engineering systems. This framework tightly couples principal advantages of MatLab/Simulink simulation engine with the unique properties of the multi-objective PSI method. Second, we show key benefits of the MatLab/PSI bundle on the example of identification of the principal aerodynamic characteristics and apparent masses of the controllable circular parachute.

A model of interactions between goals based on fuzzy relations for multiple goal decision making (attribute decision making) is presented. In contrast to other approaches, the interactive structure of goals for each decision situation is calculated explicitly based on fuzzy types of interaction. No preference relation defined on the power set of the decision alternatives is required. This helps not only to work with less complex initial information about the decision situation but also provides for a more efficient representation of the decision knowledge and for more efficient decision making procedures. Several real world applications based on the model are used in industry and finance.

The goal of the First ieee symposium of computational intelligence in multicriteria decision making (MCDM 2007) is to provide a cornmon forum for three scientific cornmunities that have addressed different aspects of the MCDM problem and provided complementary approaches to its solution. The first approach is the search process over the space of possible solutions. We must perform efficient searches in multi- (or sometimes many-) dimensional spaces to identify the non-dominated solutions that compose the Pareto set. This search is driven by the solution evaluations, which might be probabilistic, stochastic, or imprecise, rather than deterministic. The second approach is the preference tradeoff process. We need to elicit, represent, evaluate, and aggregate the decision-maker's preferences to select a single solution (or a small subset of solutions) from the Pareto set. These preferences may be HI defined, and state or time-dependent rather than constant values. The aggregation mechanism may be as simple as a linear combination or as complex as a knowledge-driven model. The third approach is the interactive visualization process, which enables progressive decisions. We often want to embed the decision-maker in the solution refinement and selection loop. To this end, we need to show the impacts that intermediate tradeoffs in one sub-space could have in the other ones, while allowing him/her to retract or modify any intermediate steps to strike appropriate tradeoff balances. Given this perspective, we believe that MCDM resides in the intersections of these approaches.
