MSPA design methodology has been developed with regular structure and systematic procedure. In this paper, programmable MSPA is proposed. It embeds not only MSPA architecture, but design procedure into silicon chips so that various applications can be performed with high speed.

nMOS pass-transistor logic is one of the most popular logic families for its exclusive usage of nMOS-FETs and simple form of 2-input multiplexer and exclusive-OR gate. The nMOS-only structure is also found speedy and simple for basic logic gates. In addition, Regenerative Pass-transistor Logic (RPL) is a dual-rail pass-transistor logic with various advantages including compact layout area and high operating speed. However, in combinational logic, there are many control logics with complex structures which are difficult to be implemented in conventional pass-transistor logics. In this paper, the general design procedure and the design automation algorithms for RPL circuits under speed-power performance consideration are studied.

Performance limitations and the required trade-offs in the design of single-ended log-domain filter circuits are analyzed. Second-order filters based on a new log-domain integrator circuit are adapted for use in a silicon cochlea. The results demonstrate that detailed simulations are essential for accurately predicting log-domain circuit performance. Analysis shows why instantaneous companding does not lead to high dynamic range in single-ended log-domain filters.

The design and generalization of Perfect-Reconstruction (PR) cosine-modulated filter banks (CMFB) have been studied extensively due to its low design and implementation complexity. In this paper, the theory and design of arbitrary-length biorthogonal CMFB is considered. This is a generalization of the method for designing arbitrary length orthogonal CMFB and has the advantage of simple design procedure. We also propose a systematic design method so that biorthogonal CMFB with longer length can be obtained.

The suboptimal designing algorithm of spectrum shaping filter vs surface acoustic wave technology is discussed, After resampling at interval of M, the original weighting function is decomposed into two weighting functions with less order by the zero-separating of Z-transform, then represented by interpolation derived from the signal reconstruction theory, and can be further suboptimized using the standard Remez optimization method and realized by SAW filter with multistrip coupler. The simulation results for a Blackman shaping filter confirm that this algorithm is very simple and effective.

A novel digital filter design approach based upon Neural Network Optimization (NNO) technique is proposed in the present paper. To demonstrate the feasibility of the NNO design approach; a Continuous Hopfield Neural Network (CHNN) model is chosen and the relation between the MSE criterion and the Lyapunov function is also established. The implementation of the NNO digital filter design is described together with some design guidelines. A few linear phase FIR filter design examples are given and the advantages of the NNO approach over conventional design techniques are illustrated.

A fuzzy expert system for power converter design is presented. This system helps inexperienced designers to design, simulate and optimize power converters. By applying fuzzy logic technique, an optimum topology of power converter is selected. Then the converter is simulated and optimized to meet the designer's requirements. The expert system uses readily available programs such as PSpice, MATLAB and Magnetics designer as building blocks to avoid "re-inventing the wheel". In this paper we present design methods for IIR filter banks. In the conventional works for IIR filter bank systems, the stable and causal systems which satisfy the condition of perfect reconstruction have not been well established yet. Most of these works do not satisfy both of these conditions (causality and perfect reconstruction). In this study, to design a two channel IIR filter bank system which satisfies the above two properties, we propose new design algorithms based on a Lagrange-multiplier method and Lagrange-Newton method. In this method the system achieves perfect reconstruction and has causality.

This paper presents two approaches to symbolic analysis of large analog integrated circuits via simplification during the generation of the symbolic expressions. Both techniques are examined from the point of view of matroid theory. Finally, a new approach which combines the positive features of both approaches is introduced.
