The relationship between faults in a synthesized multilevel network and in its collapsed two-level network is analyzed. A program to select a proper set of faults in the collapsed two-level network from the synthesized multilevel network is implemented. The test for selected faults will detect all single stuck-at faults of the synthesized multilevel network. The number of generated tests is about 50% less than the number for the two-level complete test set.< >

An expert system to assist in the design of different classes of linear microwave amplifiers for microwave integrated circuits (MICs)/monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs) is presented. The principal stages in the design of such a circuit are outlined and the decision to implement the expert system justified. Two important aspects of the design process are addressed: the choice of optimum circuit topology for a given specification and the selection of a suitable FET or FETs for that topology. The overall structure of the expert system is described and its operation demonstrated using a typical amplifier design.< >

Discusses the synthesis of linearized conductance functions using GaAs MESFETs which have an approximately square-law drain current versus gate-source voltage characteristic. The functions for realization are derived and implemented in three basic circuit configurations: transconductance, self-conductance, and buffer function. The new circuits outperformed previous circuits in terms of chip area, power consumption, and efficiency. The alternative concept of voltage linearization is introduced. It was used to realize lossless buffer circuits. Optimization of FET gate widths to allow a verified realistic FET model was demonstrated.< >

A methodology to accurately design multirate switched-capacitor (SC) filters is derived. Multirate SC filter design is an effective means of minimizing silicon area for bandpass systems. The theory derived allows designs to achieve maximal area savings by employing sampling rates approaching the minimum allowed by sampling theory. designing filters to simultaneously operate at different sampling rates can require numerical optimization to correct for the effects of multirate operation, filtorX, a computer-aided filter design tool, was employed to design a CCITT V.22 high-band modem filter as a test of the derived design methodology. The result was an improvement of the uncorrected multirate filter, which had exceeded passband tolerances, to one which was within tolerances. The multirate filter, operating at sampling rates of 128 kHz and 8 kHz, required 70% less capacitor area than the equivalent single-rate filter operating at a sampling rate of 128 kHz.< >

The design of novel, differential input operational-transconductance-amplifier (OTA-C) integrators for realization in 0.5- mu m, 20-GHz GaAs MESFET technology is described. It is shown that due to certain unique features of the single-ended OTA, extension to a fully balanced differential form requires considerably less than doubling of the number of components. The circuits, which feature separate control of gain and cutoff frequency, are particularly suited to high-precision, very-high-Q filtering applications. The fully balanced integrator is very linear, and searching tests conducted over a wide range of transconductance and operating conditions reveal that the total harmonic distortion levels are low.< >

A recursion-adaptive nonlinear filter structure that is based on the linear combination of order statistics is developed, using the minimal mean square error (MSE) criterion and the unbiasedness condition, Two efficient methods to update the filter coefficients are presented. The proposed recursion algorithms can adapt well to a variety of noise probability distributions and are useful for real-time applications. The MSE estimation computed using the local statistics of the input signal and noise is considered. Simulation results on one-dimensional signals and real images are also presented.< >

The generation and propagation of noise in the electrical system in an accelerator system are examined. Some approaches to reducing or eliminating the effect of noise on the electronic circuits are discussed. Recommendations on design, wiring, and connections are made. The use of separate ground leads for digital and analog signals to eliminate the undesired coupling of signals via common ground leads is also covered. In mixed mode printed-circuit boards, the importance of physical separations between analog and digital circuits is emphasized. In general, for analog signal transmission, use of a differential mode to reduce common-mode noise and shielded twisted pairs to minimize noise pick-up is recommended. Optical coupling can be used to reduce noise transfer into electronic circuits. The ground conductor should be used only for grounding purposes. In three-phase systems care must be taken to reduce the amount of phase imbalance due to improper loading of different phases. A 6- or 12-pulse supply fed from a balanced three-phase system introduces less current harmonic back into the line than when it is fed from an imbalanced system.< >

The authors describe algorithms and techniques for the computer-aided design and analysis of optoelectronic circuits for microwave applications. Linear and nonlinear analysis methods for hierarchically structured multiport microwave circuits with arbitrary topology have been extended to include optoelectronic device models. Ideal control sources are often used in modeling optoelectronic and optical components, and sometimes introduce problems to nodal analysis and harmonic balance methods. The authors show how these difficulties can be overcome and how lightwave/microwave circuits can be efficiently analyzed. As an example, a novel lightwave/microwave transceiver module has been analyzed and optimized for large-signal operation at microwave frequencies.< >

A circuit partitioning and parallel processing approach is applied to optimum circuit designs to achieve a significant speed-up in computation time. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the approach and to estimate the speed-up factors which are contributed by the partitioning algorithm employed, the choice of subcircuit partitioning with regard to circuit design parameters, and the number of processors used. The application of circuit partitioning and parallel processing to optimum circuit design via the SPICE program is shown to yield three potential speed-up factors which can reduce the SPICE computation times. There is a speed-up factor due to the choice of subcircuit partitioning and the selection of which subcircuits are effected by design parameter optimization. Another factor is attributable to the partitioning of subcircuits which decomposes one large circuit equation into multiple, smaller subcircuit equations; the solution time for these subcircuit equations is much smaller than the time required to solve one large circuit equation. Finally, since the computations for each subcircuit and/or for each frequency (for AC analysis) are independent, they may be performed concurrently on multiple processors, giving a further potential speed-up factor.< >

Presents a novel algorithm for the computation of the two-dimensional discrete Fourier transform and discrete Hartley transform. By using the discrete Radon transform (DRT), the algorithm essentially converts the two-dimensional transforms into a number of one-dimensional ones. By totally eliminating all redundant operations during the computation of the DRT, the algorithm can give an average of 20% reduction in the number of additions as compared to previous approaches which are also based on the DRT. In fact, it has the same arithmetic complexity as the fastest algorithms which use the polynomial transform for their decompositions. However, the present approach has the advantage over the ones using the polynomial transform in that it can easily be realized.< >
