Considering the functionality of situational awareness in safety-critical automation systems, the perception of risk in driving scenes and its explainability is of particular importance for autonomous and cooperative driving. Toward this goal, this paper proposes a new research direction of joint risk localization in driving scenes and its risk explanation as a natural language description. Due to the lack of standard benchmarks, we collected a large-scale dataset, DRAMA (Driving Risk Assessment Mechanism with A captioning module), which consists of 17,785 interactive driving scenarios collected in Tokyo, Japan. Our DRAMA dataset accommodates video- and object-level questions on driving risks with associated important objects to achieve the goal of visual captioning as a free-form language description utilizing closed and open-ended responses for multi-level questions, which can be used to evaluate a range of visual captioning capabilities in driving scenarios. We make this data available to the community for further research. Using DRAMA, we explore multiple facets of joint risk localization and captioning in interactive driving scenarios. In particular, we benchmark various multi-task prediction architectures and provide a detailed analysis of joint risk localization and risk captioning. The data set is available at https://***/drama

In this work, we present an advanced implementation of the full resolution Parallel Small BAseline Subset (P-SBAS) DInSAR processing chain, aimed to effectively and automatically generate DInSAR products (displacement time series and corresponding velocity maps) related to single buildings and infrastructures over the whole Italian territory. The proposed full resolution P-SBAS pipeline exploits innovative hardware and software parallel technologies based on GPUs, which are able to efficiently process large amounts of full resolution DInSAR data stacks in reasonable time frames and with high scalability. The presented results, achieved by processing very large archives of full resolution X-band first and second generation COSMO-SkyMed data and C-band Sentinel-1 images, demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed solution in terms of computing time and computational efficiency.

Multimodal large Language Models (MLLMs) have remarkably progressed in analyzing and understanding images. Despite these advancements, accurately regressing values in charts remains an underexplored area for MLLMs. For visualization, how do MLLMs perform when applied to graphical perception tasks? Our paper investigates this question by reproducing Cleveland and McGill’s seminal 1984 experiment and comparing it against human task performance. Our study primarily evaluates fine-tuned and pretrained models and zero-shot prompting to determine if they closely match human graphical perception. Our findings highlight that MLLMs outperform human task performance in some cases but not in others. We highlight the results of all experiments to foster an understanding of where MLLMs succeed and fail when applied to data visualization.

Multimodal large Language Models (MLLMs) have enhanced the interpretability of disease diagnosis, leading to more accurate outcomes and improved patient understanding. A key advancement is visual grounding, linking textual information with medical images like chest x-rays (CXRs) for deeper analysis. This approach combines visual details with expert medical language, enabling MLLMs to detect patterns and disease indicators effectively. However, challenges persist, particularly in multi-category classification and precise visual grounding in CXRs. To address this, we introduce MedVisioChat, an MLLM with visual grounding capabilities for seamless integration of medical images and diagnoses. Pre-trained on large datasets and fine-tuned with specific GPT-4 Turbo instructions, MedVisioChat aims to provide accurate, interactive diagnostics, demonstrating superiority over existing models and promising an inter-pretable visual medical diagnosis. © 2025 ieee.

In this work, we present ICEBOAT an interactive tool that enables automotive UX experts to explore howusers interact with In-Vehicle Information Systems (IVISs). Based on large naturalistic driving data continuously collected from production line vehicles, ICEBOAT visualizes drivers' interactions and driving behavior on diferent levels of detail. Hence, it allows to easily compare diferent user fows based on performance- and safety-related metrics.

Trace data is crucial for system observability and maintainability within microservices architectures, and many operation algorithms depend heavily on trace data, including anomaly detection, root cause analysis, etc. However, the actual performance of these algorithms might be unsatisfactory due to the absence of high-quality labeled datasets for effective training and evaluation. Since billions of traces could be generated daily for large-scale microservices, labeling overhead is the main hurdle to obtaining high-quality trace *** this paper, we propose LabelEase, a novel semi-Automatic trace labeling tool, which uses active learning techniques to achieve efficient and accurate trace labeling. For anomaly trace labeling, LabelEase clusters similar traces with a graph-based trace representation technique and selects a few representative traces for human labeling, avoiding labeling most of the traces. For root cause labeling, LabelEase aggregates the labeled anomalous traces and identifies the service's failures for operators to label. Our systematic experiments on two large-scale datasets show that LabelEase achieves over 0.98 F1-score in anomaly trace labeling and 0.89 precision of failure detection in root cause labeling, LabelEase can reduce operators' labeling overhead by more than 99.9%. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to propose a semi-Automatic trace labeling tool capable of achieving efficient and accurate trace labeling. © 2024 ieee.

The evolution of decentralized microservice-based systems is challenging. These challenges are classified into static and dynamic categories. Regarding the static perspective, documenting and visualizing the fluid application topology is something few have been able to accomplish. Building an architecture map of services design is a complicated task in its interpretation rather than construction. Therefore, the system-centric and up-to-date view became essential for such distributed systems. The dynamic perspective considers the process of investigation and service path detection. Therefore performing root cause analysis is a burdening task;such that tracing data is needed to be put in the right context to facilitate the investigation. Moreover, visualizing these traces over the traditional visualization techniques couldn't be feasible with the large number of microservices involved in the system. This paper proposes a visualization concept for microservices-based systems using the Augmented Reality (AR) technique, which merges these static and dynamic behaviors into a single centric view. In addition, we challenge the difficulty related to tracing and debugging an issue in such distributed systems. This concept is designed to work as a dynamic documentation and traceability platform for these systems. A proof of concept and a research study are implemented to show the viability and success of this proposal.

Teaching supply chain management requires a significant level of abstraction and theory. Some critical challenges are to illustrate incentive conflicts in supply chains and systems dynamics as they materialize in the bullwhip effect. An insightful solution to that end is Jay Forrester's beer game. While its board game versions suffer from lengthy instructions, counting, and bookkeeping exercises, online versions suffer less immersion. In our project, we seek to combine the best of both worlds by creating a digital beer game version in VR as a serious simulation. Pursuing a significant degree of hardware independence, we first implemented and tested a version in WebXR. Due to performance issues in a classroom trial, we implemented a Unity simulation. To feature the multiplayer setting and provide data for subsequent classroom discussion and analysis, we store all data on a web server. Students who cannot access the simulation via VR, for instance, due to motion sickness, can still participate using a standard web interface. While a comprehensive test is outstanding, we present first impressions and discuss the next steps.

In the oil and gas industry, the reliability and performance of induction motors are critical for operations such as pumps, compressors, and drilling equipment. Traditional condition monitoring techniques like vibration analysis and thermography often fall short in providing early warning signals and accurate predictions. This study investigates the application of machine learning, particularly deep learning, to enhance fault diagnosis and Remaining Useful Life (RUL) prediction of large induction motors. By utilizing winding temperature data, the research develops and evaluates hybrid deep learning models that integrate Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, alongside a Transformer model. The Transformer model demonstrates superior performance in prediction accuracy compared to the hybrid CNN-LSTM model. The proposed models show significant improvements in early fault detection and RUL prediction, offering potential benefits in maintenance strategies, cost savings, and system reliability. The study highlights that incorporating additional parameters such as power consumption, bearing vibration, and ambient temperature could further enhance the robustness of the models. Future research should focus on addressing data quality, model generalization, and real-time application challenges to optimize maintenance schedules and extend motor lifespan in the oil and gas industry. © 2024 ieee.

This study focuses on improving an existing technique of securing multimedia data transmission in a wireless network using a secret key. The proposed secret key generation algorithm extracts the key using localization information of the nodes participating in the communication in presence of an eavesdropper in which legitimate nodes could agree on a synchronized secret key, while eavesdroppers can only overhear limited information through the channel. Theoretical analysis of maximum secret key generation rate (MSR) for chain and hybrid topology has been done to evaluate the performance of the algorithm. Mathematical simulation has been done for MSR in terms of signal to noise ratio (SNR) and wireless network size which provides better insight to the localization based key extraction process. Results of simulations for small-scale and large-scale wireless models including an eavesdropper under Gaussian noise confirm the feasibility of the proposed algorithm, which can further be applied to multiple node mobile wireless network. © 2023 ieee.
