As computational science applications benefit from larger-scale, more heterogeneous high performance computing (HPC) systems, the process of studying their performance becomes increasingly complex. The performance data analysis library Hatchet provides some insights into this complexity, but is currently limited in its analysis capabilities. Missing capabilities include the handling of relational caller-callee data captured by HPC profilers. To address this shortcoming, we augment Hatchet with a Call Path Query Language that leverages relational data in the performance analysis of scientific applications. Specifically, our Query Language enables data reduction using call path pattern matching. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our Query Language in identifying performance bottlenecks and enhancing Hatchet's analysis capabilities through three case studies. In the first case study, we compare the performance of sequential and multi-threaded versions of the graph alignment application Fido. In doing so, we identify the existence of large memory inefficiencies in both versions. In the second case study, we examine the performance of MPI calls in the linear algebra mini-application AMG2013 when using MVAPICH and Spectrum-MPI. In doing so, we identify hidden performance losses in specific MPI functions. In the third case study, we illustrate the use of our Query Language in Hatchet's interactive visualization. In doing so, we show that our Query Language enables a simple and intuitive way to massively reduce profiling data.

Social interaction, and collaborative interaction in particular, is a core component of many games and other forms of play. While several forms of analysis exist to cover social aspects of play, many do not account for embodied components of collaboration during play. This paper presents our novel use of the creative sense-making (CSM) framework as a means of understanding embodied collaboration throughout the duration of dyadic, embodied, goal-oriented play. It describes the process of translating the framework, which had previously been used to study open-ended embodied collaboration, into a tool to analyze embodied collaboration in goal-oriented games. We detail key components of the analysis process, including codebook development, iterative coding to establish inter-rater reliability, and visualization methods to display trends across all play sessions with a game. This work demonstrates the utility of CSM as a tool for gameplay analysis as an addition or augmentation to existing techniques, and provides researchers and practitioners with a practical guide to applying CSM in games contexts.

The following achievements have been made: in the research of the operation image model of the large power grid, a real-time operation image model of the large power grid has been proposed. Corresponding solutions or technologies such as serviceability calculation have been proposed for typical difficult problems in dynamic measurement data and analysis calculation. Combined with the production needs of demonstration projects, the overall architecture design of the large power grid image model has been proposed, and the interface with simulation data and measurement data has been established to establish the large power grid image model. We have designed and implemented intelligent analysis and decision-making functions for the static safety and dynamic response characteristics of the power grid, as well as a laboratory validation plan for the effectiveness of response driven stability discrimination and control measures. In the analysis of the evolution of transient safety and stability characteristics in electromagnetically systems, a technical route for power grid image model 'prediction-planning-correction' state deduction has been proposed, providing basic materials for system state analysis under different operating conditions. We have established a provincial-level grid 10000 node point mixed simulation verification platform, which can be used to verify the effectiveness testing of prototypes in operating scenarios, and conducted research on demonstration project implementation plans. © 2025 ieee.

FixationNet: Forecasting Eye Fixations in Task-Oriented Virtual Environments

Human visual attention in immersive virtual reality (VR) is key for many important applications, such as content design, gaze-contingent rendering, or gaze-based interaction. However, prior works typically focused on free-viewing conditions that have limited relevance for practical applications. We first collect eye tracking data of 27 participants performing a visual search task in four immersive VR environments. Based on this dataset, we provide a comprehensive analysis of the collected data and reveal correlations between users' eye fixations and other factors, i.e. users' historical gaze positions, task-related objects, saliency information of the VR content, and users' head rotation velocities. Based on this analysis, we propose FixationNet - a novel learning-based model to forecast users' eye fixations in the near future in VR. We evaluate the performance of our model for free-viewing and task-oriented settings and show that it outperforms the state of the art by a large margin of 19.8% (from a mean error of 2.93 degrees to 2.35 degrees) in free-viewing and of 15.1% (from 2.05 degrees to 1.74 degrees) in task-oriented situations. As such, our work provides new insights into task-oriented attention in virtual environments and guides future work on this important topic in VR research.

The use of adaptive workflow management for in situ visualization and analysis has been a growing trend in large-scale scientific simulations. However, coordinating adaptive workflows with traditional procedural programming languages can be difficult because system flow is determined by unpredictable scientific phenomena, which often appear in an unknown order and can evade event handling. This makes the implementation of adaptive workflows tedious and error-prone. Recently, reactive and declarative programming paradigms have been recognized as well-suited solutions to similar problems in other domains. However, there is a dearth of research on adapting these approaches to in situ visualization and analysis. With this paper, we present a language design and runtime system for developing adaptive systems through a declarative and reactive programming paradigm. We illustrate how an adaptive workflow programming system is implemented using our approach and demonstrate it with a use case from a combustion simulation.

Climate change’s global impact calls for coordinated visualization efforts to enhance collaboration and communication among key partners such as domain experts, community members, and policy makers. We present a collaborative initiative, EcoViz, where visualization practitioners and key partners co-designed environmental data visualizations to illustrate impacts on ecosystems and the benefit of informed management and nature-based solutions. Our three use cases rely on unique processing pipelines to represent time-dependent natural phenomena by combining cinematic, scientific, and information visualization methods. Scientific out-puts are displayed through narrative data-driven animations, interactive geospatial web applications, and immersive Unreal Engine applications. Each field’s decision-making process is specific, driving design decisions about the best representation and medium for each use case. data-driven cinematic videos with simple charts and minimal annotations proved most effective for engaging large, diverse audiences. This flexible medium facilitates reuse, maintains critical details, and integrates well into broader narrative videos. The need for interdisciplinary visualizations highlights the importance of funding to integrate visualization practitioners throughout the scientific process to better translate data and knowledge into informed policy and practice.

In the field of high-speed train fault diagnosis, great achievements have been made in recent years. Although it has achieved considerable accuracy, most of them require a large amount of labeled training data, which is difficult to collect and obtain in actual industrial environment. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a fault diagnosis framework based on federated transfer learning. Under the premise of protecting data privacy and security, to create a model with excellent generalization capabilities which can diagnose the client without the need for data labels, two clients work together to train the model. Additionally, an enhanced multi-scale convolution fusion technique is employed to extract and fuse fault features at various sizes, so as to further improve diagnostic accuracy in local model training. By verifying the fault data of the bogie, a diagnostic accuracy of 92.51% has been achieved for railway bogie with unlabeled data. This provides an effective solution for safety zero-shot fault diagnosis of high-speed train bogie, especially in the current situation of "data island"in the railway industry. © 2023 ieee.

As an important high -energy -consuming industrial load, electrolytic magnesium can continuously adjust the power in a large range. It is of great significance to thoroughly tap the power regulation potential of electrolytic magnesium industrial load for improving the flexibility of power system and promoting the consumption of renewable energy. The assessment of power regulation potential depends on the construction of accurate load models. Thus, it is urgent to construct a delicate model for the active power characteristic of electrolytic magnesium industry. Based on analyzing the industrial process of electrolytic magnesium, this paper firstly combs the main electric equipment of electrolytic magnesium industry. Then based on the electrical characteristics of the main electric equipment, this paper constructed their external characteristic models of representing the relationship between active power and voltage, and constructed the active power characteristic model of electrolytic magnesium load by superimposing the power of above models. Finally, this paper used the measured PMU data of a magnesium factory to identify the key parameters of the model and verified the effectiveness of the model by comparing the measured active power curve with the model's output active power curve and calculating the simulation error.

Integrated Sensing And Communication (ISAC) forms a symbiosis between the human need for communication and the need for increasing productivity, by extracting environmental information leveraging the communication network. As multiple sensory already create a perception of the environment, an investigation into the advantages of ISAC compare to such modalities is required. Therefore, we introduce MaxRay, an ISAC framework allowing to simulate communication, sensing, and additional sensory jointly. Emphasizing the challenges for creating such sensing networks, we introduce the required propagation properties for sensing and how they are leveraged. To compare the performance of the different sensing techniques, we analyze four commonly used metrics used in different fields and evaluate their advantages and disadvantages for sensing. We depict that a metric based on prominence is suitable to cover most algorithms. Further we highlight the requirement of clutter removal algorithms, using two standard clutter removal techniques to detect a target in a typical industrial scenario. In general a versatile framework, allowing to create automatically labeled datasets to investigate a large variety of tasks is demonstrated.

We propose a visual query system for risky enterprises. Based on a small number of input samples of risky enterprises, users can interactively analyze and obtain SQL statements that express the query results, facilitating subsequent task operations and understanding risk criteria. Due to the diversity of enterprises and the complexity of economic indicators, understanding, evaluating, and querying risky enterprises is a challenging task for ordinary users. To solve this problem, our visual query system integrates multicriteria decision-making techniques and data mining through a visual analysis interface. The system facilitates efficient identification of risky enterprises, leveraging knowledge gained from a small number of known risk company samples. Our system includes an analytic hierarchy model to express domain knowledge, a query tree construction algorithm, and a well-designed visual interface. Two real cases demonstrate the effectiveness of our system.
