This study analyzes the impact of validator behavior on investor rewards in proof-of-stake (PoS) based blockchain networks and proposes a visualization system to assist investors in selecting appropriate validators. This system enables personalized evaluations through five adjustable indicators tailored to the investor's preferences. By utilizing similarity-based circular visualizations and radar charts, it facilitates the selection and comparison of validators. Additionally, it provides time-series data-based line graphs and raw data-based table views to support detailed comparative analysis among validators. The introduction of such a multifaceted evaluation methodology in staking investments is expected to contribute to the formation of user-customized portfolios and the establishment of optimized investment strategies.

There has been a very large growth in interest in big data analytics to discover patterns and insights. A major challenge in this domain is the need to combine domain knowledge - what the data means (semantics) and what it is used for - with advanced data analytics and visualization techniques to mine and communicate important information from the huge volumes of raw data. Many data analytics tools have been developed for both research and practice to assist in specifying, integrating and deploying data analytics applications. However, delivering such big data analytics applications requires a capable team with different skillsets including data scientists, software engineers and domain experts. Such teams and skillsets usually take a long time to build and have high running costs. An alternative is to provide domain experts and data scientists - the end users - with tools they can use to create and deploy complex data analytics application solutions directly with less technical skills required. In this paper we present a survey and analysis of several current research and practice approaches to supporting data analytics for end-users, identifying key strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for future research.

With the growing complexity in architecture and the size of large-scale computing systems, monitoring and analyzing system behavior and events has become daunting. Monitoring data amounting to terabytes per day are collected by sensors housed in these massive systems at multiple fidelity levels and varying temporal resolutions. In this work, we develop an incremental version of multiresolution dynamic mode decomposition (mrDMD), which converts high-dimensional data to spatial-temporal patterns at varied frequency ranges. Our incremental implementation of the mrDMD algorithm (I-mrDMD) promptly reveals valuable information in the massive environment log dataset, which is then visually aligned with the processed hardware and job log datasets through our generalizable rack visualization using D3 visualization integrated into the Jupyter Notebook interface. We demonstrate the efficacy of our approach with two use scenarios on a real-world dataset from a Cray XC40 supercomputer, Theta. © 2024 ieee.

Spatial information understanding is fundamental to visual perception in Metaverse. Beyond the stereoscopic visual cues naturally carried in Metaverse, the human vision system may use other auxiliary information provided by any shadow casting or motion parallax available to perceive the 3D virtual world. However, the combined use of shadows and motion parallax to improve 3D perception have not been fully studied. In particular, when visualizing the combination of volumetric data and associated skeleton models in VR, how to provide the auxiliary visual cues to enhance observers' perception of the structural information is a key yet underexplored topic. This problem is particularly challenging for visualization of data in biomedical research. In this paper, we focus on immersive analytics in neurobiology where the structural information includes the relative position of objects (nuclei / cell body) in the 3D space and the spatial measurement and connectivity of segments (axons and dendrites) in a model. We present a perceptual experiment designed for understanding the consequence of shadow casting and motion parallax in the neuron structures observation and the feedback and analysis of the experiment are reported and discussed.

The collective behaviors of various organisms exhibit complex patterns and statistical characteristics, especially evident within large populations. The complexity of these behaviors necessitates in-depth analysis of extensive trajectory data to reveal underlying dynamics and patterns. Current methods fall short in quantitative analysis and multi-angle assessment of collective behaviors, particularly in terms of the limitations of macroscopic indicators and the singularity of evaluation methods. This study introduces Droflysim, an efficient computational platform for analyzing and assessing large-scale trajectory data of collective behavior. Droflysim enhances data processing speed through parallel processing technology and integrates a variety of simulation models and multi-angle evaluation methods, overcoming the limitations of traditional tools. Notably, Droflysim emphasizes the statistical analysis of trajectories under environmental disturbances, providing a new perspective and deeper understanding of the complexity of collective behavior by establishing a trajectory fitting model. The design of Droflysim includes an intuitive interactive interface, modular architecture, and parallel processing capabilities, enhancing the efficiency and scalability of data analysis. By quantitatively analyzing trajectories, Droflysim lays the foundation for precise model calibration and authentic reproduction of behavior, offering a powerful tool for the study of collective behavior. © 2024 ieee.

Geodetic electromagnetic methods have wide applications in geophysical exploration, but there are still some challenges for large-scale and complex geodetic electromagnetic data processing and interpretation. This paper introduces a Python-based open-source software library, resistics, which achieves significant optimization of the data processing effect through its application in geodetic electromagnetic data processing. There are many limitations in the traditional methods of geodetic electromagnetic data processing, including problems of data import, correction, noise suppression and model matching. The main functions and features of the resistics library, i.e., multi-threaded processing, efficient data import and pre-processing, and automated parameter optimization, can optimize data processing. These features make the resistics library perform well in large-scale geodetic electromagnetic data processing, and can significantly improve data processing efficiency and accuracy. In order to verify the advantages of the resistics library in geodetic electromagnetic data processing, we selected the geodetic electromagnetic data from the Xian Shui River area for experiments, and processed the data using the resistics library. The results show that, compared with the traditional method, the resistics library can process the data and model matching more quickly and accurately, and improve the accuracy of the data and obtain more reliable results. Not only that, in the process of using the resistics library to process data, it also realizes the visualization of data processing, and can be adjusted and optimized for the measured bad data to get more reliable data. In the processing of the Xian Shui river data, the use of the resistics library can effectively suppress the noise, extract the effective signals, and accurately restore the underground structure. © 2024 ieee.

Learning to Answer Visual Questions From Web Videos

Recent methods for visual question answering rely on large-scale annotated datasets. Manual annotation of questions and answers for videos, however, is tedious, expensive and prevents scalability. In this work, we propose to avoid manual annotation and generate a large-scale training dataset for video question answering making use of automatic cross-modal supervision. We leverage a question generation transformer trained on text data and use it to generate question-answer pairs from transcribed video narrations. Given narrated videos, we then automatically generate the HowToVQA69M dataset with 69M video-question-answer triplets. To handle the open vocabulary of diverse answers in this dataset, we propose a training procedure based on a contrastive loss between a video-question multi-modal transformer and an answer transformer. We introduce the zero-shot VideoQA task and the VideoQA feature probe evaluation setting and show excellent results, in particular for rare answers. Furthermore, our method achieves competitive results on MSRVTT-QA, ActivityNet-QA, MSVD-QA and How2QA datasets. We also show that our VideoQA dataset generation approach generalizes to another source of web video and text data. We use our method to generate the WebVidVQA3M dataset from the WebVid dataset, i.e., videos with alt-text annotations, and show its benefits for training VideoQA models. Finally, for a detailed evaluation we introduce iVQA, a new VideoQA dataset with reduced language bias and high-quality manual annotations. In research aimed at determining the level of interest of high school students in enrolling in colleges, predictive analysis models and comparisons are rarely applied during the classification and processing of various data. All of this leads to significant fluctuations in college admissions, where certain schools are unable to admit a large number of students who show interest in a specific field. On the other hand, high school students lose interest in certain schools, leading to the discontinuation of specific directions essential for today's job market needs. Institutions largely fail to conduct a comparison and linkage of teaching and non-teaching activities when analyzing the talents and interests of high school students from different fields. The goal of this paper is to use programming language classifiers to predict student enrollments in colleges based on the results students demonstrate during regular attendance in high schools through participation in innovation fairs.

An RGB Color Image Steganography Scheme by Binary Lower Triangular Matrix

Steganography is an area where researchers focus on how to develop novel hiding techniques that are aided by the mathematical or computational model. In order to conceal the secret bits in a cover image, the imperceptible property and embedding payload capacity must be maintained. In most of the developed methods, some selective least significant bits (LSBs) of each pixel of the cover image is modified to hide the data which may lead to substantial distortion in the stego-image especially when the payload size is large. Therefore, to attain the trade-off between payload capacity and image quality, the authors have devised a binary lower triangular matrix-based secret message embedding process in which data can be hidden in the color pixel. In this secret message embedding process, the secret data is embedded aided by the binary lower triangular matrix. The formulated mathematical model for the secret message embedding process has ensured a secure embedding technique with reduced aberration on the stego-image. The proposed steganography scheme is preserving significant visual quality while emphasizing the security aspect by adopting an indirect data-hiding mechanism in contrast to the conventional mechanism. Furthermore, for the betterment of the visual properties of the stego-image, we have generically extended the formulation and tested it to check the visual quality. The empirical results of the proposed steganography scheme depict outcomes satisfactorily for the RGB color images. Researchers can explore and apply this novel data-hiding scheme in different data communication applications.

Vision systems that see and reason about the compositional nature of visual scenes are fundamental to understanding our world. The complex relations between objects and their locations, ambiguities, and variations in the real-world environment can be better described in human language, naturally governed by grammatical rules and other modalities such as audio and depth. The models learned to bridge the gap between such modalities and large-scale training data facilitate contextual reasoning, generalization, and prompt capabilities at test time. These models are referred to as foundation models. The output of such models can be modified through human-provided prompts without retraining, e.g., segmenting a particular object by providing a bounding box, having interactive dialogues by asking questions about an image or video scene or manipulating the robot's behavior through language instructions. In this survey, we provide a comprehensive review of such emerging foundation models, including typical architecture designs to combine different modalities (vision, text, audio, etc.), training objectives (contrastive, generative), pre-training datasets, fine-tuning mechanisms, and the common prompting patterns;textual, visual, and heterogeneous. We discuss the open challenges and research directions for foundation models in computer vision, including difficulties in their evaluations and benchmarking, gaps in their real-world understanding, limitations of contextual understanding, biases, vulnerability to adversarial attacks, and interpretability issues. We review recent developments in this field, covering a wide range of applications of foundation models systematically and comprehensively.
