A challenge in data analysis and visualization is to build new-generation software tools and systems to truly accelerate scientific discoveries. The recent focus of Princeton's next-generation software project is to investigate how to develop new-generation data analysis and visualization capabilities for genomic scientists to analyze high-throughput genomic datasets. This paper describes the software tools we have recently developed to enable dynamic, large-scale data analysis and visualization of multiple datasets on large-scale, high-resolution display wall systems. Our initial experience with the deployed tools at Princeton's Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics is very encouraging. Scientists can effectively learn new knowledge from multiple datasets, find new insights, and generate new hypotheses that are not possible with current methods.

To compress the large amount of point cloud data is emerging as the dire need for the visualization of scientific simulation and for rendering biomedical information. This work proposes a novel technique for the compression of point cloud volumetric and surface data. It is based upon multistage vector quantization (MSVQ) which is improvised for its application over 3D data. The clustering or initial codebook is generated with the help of hybridizing k-means clustering and grow and learn algorithm. The number of codevectors is determined with rate distortion constraint. Conclusively rate distortion analysis is also conducted for critical analysis of the algorithm

To use heterogeneous and geographically distributed resources as a platform for parallel visualization is an intriguing topic of research. This is because of the immense potential impact of the work, and also because of its use of a full range of challenging technologies. In this work, we designed an execution environment for visualization of massive scientific datasets, using network functional units (NFU) for processing power, logistical networking for storage management and visualization cookbook library (vcblib) for visualization operations. This environment is based solely on computers distributed across the Internet that are owned and operated by independent institutions, while being openly shared for free. Those Internet computers are inherently of heterogeneous hardware configuration and running a variety of operating systems. Using 100 such processors, we have been able to obtain the same level of performance offered by a 64-node cluster of 2.2 GHz P4 processors, while processing a 75GBs subset of a cutting-edge simulation dataset. Due to its inherently shared nature, this execution environment for data-intensive visualization could provide a viable means of collaboration among geographically separated users.

This paper describes the first scalable implementation of a text processing engine used in visual analytics tools. These tools aid information analysts in interacting with and understanding large textual information content through visual interfaces. By developing a parallel implementation of the text processing engine, we enabled visual analytics tools to exploit cluster architectures and handle massive datasets. The paper describes key elements of our parallelization approach and demonstrates virtually linear scaling when processing multi-gigabyte data sets such as Pubmed. This approach enables interactive analysis of large datasets beyond capabilities of existing state-of-the art visual analytics tools.

The tree structure has received much interest as a versatile architecture for a large class of parallel processing applications. Spanning trees in particular are essential tools for some important communication problems such as broadcasting and personalized communications. When it refers to communications, it always involves two costs. Specifically, sending a Packet of b bytes along a link takes T-s + bT(c) time, where Ts is the time to initialize (or start-up) the communication link and T-c is the latency to transmit a byte. To optimize these costs, a spanning tree is constructed to solve one-to-all broadcasting problem in an (n, k-)-arrangement graph. Since the spanning tree has an optimal height, our algorithm achieves optimal start-up cost O(D(An,k))Ts and transmission cost [graphics] under the all-port model, and optimal transmission cost O(mTc) under the one-port model.

With the rapid development of information and communication technology and widely spreading of internet, digital landscape becomes a high topic recently. This paper presents a landscape modeling- and visualizationssystem. The first part of this paper focuses on the real time 3D-model- lingsprocess out of large point-clouds. Diverse experiments have been done on the reconstruction of various famous regions of Bavaria with tourist features. And the second part concentrates on the interactive online visualizationssystem for massive meshes. To enable an efficient interactive online visualization of these large meshes, we convert them firstly with a multi-resolution hierarchy, and then display them progressively. As a preprocessing for the inter-active rendering, we generate a hierarchical tree of bounding spheres from triangle meshes and write it to disk. It will be used for view frustum culling, backface culling and level-of-detail control. We use a recursive algorithm for display. And the traverse-depth in the tree is decided by the projected size of the current node on the screen. By an interactive rendering, once the user stops moving the mouse, the scene will be redrawn with successively smaller thresholds until a size of one pixel is reached.

The large size and thin layers of radomes often precludes the use of full wave analysis tools. A method is presented here for plane wave multilayer dielectric radome analysis using a field matching model. parallel rays are generated at the radiating aperture with the proper amplitude and phase. The rays intercept a locally planar model of the radome. Using plane wave analysis, the amplitude and phase shift of each ray is computed after passing through the radome. The resulting rays are used to create an equivalent aperture to project to the far field where parameters of interest are computed. data is presented visually on the radome surface.

jgViz uses standard grid technologies and Chromium cluster graphics software to schedule the best available distributed graphics pipeline. visualization of large data sets using computer graphics techniques has become a mainstream requirement for many scientists and engineers. However, achieving interactive performance when rendering a complex visualization often requires high-performance computing facilities. One solution is to exploit real-time graphics accelerators, which are used in the full range of computing devices from games consoles and set-top boxes to supercomputers and advanced training simulators. At the same time, the service infrastructure for distributed networks has produced the third generation of the connected world: the grid. jgViz, our Java-implemented grid visualization system, uses grid functionality to enable transparent access to reliable parallel graphics pipelines. Lightweight and highly portable, jgViz aims to be plug-and-play for the existing grid resource allocation mechanism
