High-resolution range profile (HRRP) is one of the commonly used methods in radar automatic target recognition (RATR). Recently, obtaining HRRP under different modalities, such as frequency and polarization, to improve the RATR performance has become an important development direction. However, in practical applications, sensor failures or interference may lead to modality loss during the model testing phase, resulting in decreased performance or even causing the model to fail to function properly. This paper primarily addresses the scenario of frequency modality loss and specifically proposes a modality completion and recognition network with generative adversarial network-embedded (MCRN-GAN) model. The model first generates and completes the missing modality features using the frequency feature transformation loop (FFTL) based on GAN. Subsequently, it fuses multi-modal features based on spatial and channel attention mechanisms to obtain a joint representation of dual-frequency features. Finally, a fully connected layer is used to complete the classification. Experiments on Ku and W frequency modality datasets demonstrates that the proposed method can effectively handle missing modality data after sufficient training without significant performance loss. © 2024 ieee.

time Sensitive Networking (TSN) is a technology for deterministic networking that constantly gains momentum. Precise time synchronization is a prerequisite for TSN systems. This paper presents results of research on timestamping accuracy with 10BASE-T1L PHYs on their MII and RMII interfaces. Various sources for constant and dynamic time error superimpose in real systems, resulting in time stamp inaccuracies of several hundred nanoseconds in the worst case. Asymmetry and measured link delay may vary between successive link establishments. Measurements with existing 10BASE-T1L PHY components from two different vendors show that timestamping on the MAC-PHY interface with components available today is not sufficient to meet the requirements of ieee 802.1AS-2020 (gPTP). 10BASE-T1L is a very useful technology, but system designers should be aware of shown limitations in this paper. © 2023 ieee.

The exploratory survey embarks on the crossroads of neuroscience, virtual reality, and transportation research, exploring studies, located upon a systematic review, of the brain's cognitive processes, assessed by electroencephalography (EEG), within virtual reality (VR) based driving environments. In driving research, combining virtual reality with bio-physiological monitoring technology has recently opened up a revolutionary new field that promise never-before-seen insights into driving behaviors and cognitive processes and the creation of innovative technology that could significantly enhance road safety and driving experiences. The exploration found four major domains where the crucial link between human cognition and driving is studied. While most studies focused on driver fatigue detection, monitoring, and forecasting, studying the cognitive responses and brain dynamics in navigation, obstacle avoidance, and other distracting external stimuli are among the trends. Developing real-time advanced embedded monitoring systems technologies to guide future assisted and autonomous transportation technology was also noted. This survey aims to deepen our understanding of EEG applications in VR-based driving studies, unlock the potential for innovative interventions, and provide recommendations for prospective studies contributing to the evolution of intelligent transportation systems.

In the context of automotive systems, the end-toend latency of a sequence of tasks (a so-called cause-effect chain) is a common metric to ensure correct timing behavior. To control the end-to-end latency, proper task configuration is crucial. While the literature considers the configuration of task periods, optimization of task phases to minimize the end-to-end latency is only sparsely discussed. In this work, we examine the configuration of task phases to optimize the end-to-end latency of a cause-effect chain that communicates under the Logical Execution time (LET) paradigm. To that end, we develop a strategy for cause-effect chains with harmonic or semi-harmonic periods, which are very common in industrial applications. We prove that our strategy is optimal in the sense that it minimizes the end-to-end latency. Furthermore, our evaluation based on a real-world use-case and on synthetic automotive benchmarks shows that optimizing task phases can reduce end-to-end latencies significantly. Our approach takes at most $49 \mu ~\mathrm{s}$ to find the optimal phasing and compute the end-toend latency for cause-effect chains with 50 tasks, reducing the end-to-end latency by 28 % in median.

The convergence of vehicular networks and the Meta-verse, referred to as the Vehicular Edge Metaverse is set to revolutionize both transportation and in-car experiences. This paradigm shift envisions vehicles not only as modes of transport but also as immersive gateways to the Metaverse, offering passengers interactive and engaging experiences while on the move. The advent of 6G, with its ultra-fast speeds and minimal latency is crucial in enabling the real-time data synchronization and low-latency communication required for a seamless Vehicular Edge Metaverse experience. Additionally, blockchain technology can play a key role in ensuring secure and transparent data sharing and transactions within this ecosystem, fostering trust and enabling new business models. This paper explores the potential of this convergence, discussing the key enabling technologies such as 6G, edge computing, and blockchain, and their role in addressing the challenges of real-time synchronization, resource management, and security. Furthermore, we discuss the potential applications like augmented reality-enhanced driving assistance and immersive in-car entertainment, highlighting the transformative impact of the Vehicular Edge Metaverse on the future of transportation. © 2024 ieee.

Flexible ultrasound transducers (FUTs), capable of conforming to irregular surfaces, have become a research hotspot in the field of medical imaging. With these transducers, high-quality ultrasound images can be obtained only if strict design criteria are fulfilled. Moreover, the relative positions of array elements must be determined, which are important for ultrasound beamforming and image reconstruction. These two major characteristics present great challenges to the design and fabrication of FUTs compared to that for traditional rigid probes. In this study, an optical shape-sensing fiber was embedded into a 128-element flexible linear array transducer to acquire the real-time relative positions of array elements to produce high-quality ultrasound images. Minimum concave and convex bend diameters of approximately 20 and 25 mm, respectively, were achieved. The transducer was flexed 2000 times, and yet no obvious damage was observed. Stable electrical and acoustic responses confirmed its mechanical integrity. The developed FUT exhibited an average center frequency of 6.35 MHz, and average -6-dB bandwidth of 69.2%. The array profile and element positions measured by the optic shape-sensing system were instantly transferred to the imaging system. Phantom experiments for both spatial resolution and contrast-to-noise ratio proved that FUTs can maintain satisfactory imaging capability despite bending to sophisticated geometries. Finally, color Doppler images and Doppler spectra of the peripheral arteries of healthy volunteers were obtained in real time.

Asynchronous frameworks for distributed embedded systems, like ROS and MQTT, are increasingly used in safety-critical applications such as autonomous driving, where the cost of unintended behavior is high. The loose coordination between the components in these frameworks gives rise to nondeterminism, where factors such as communication timing can lead to arbitrary ordering in the handling of messages. In this paper, we show that this problem compromises safety and complicates system design in Autoware. Auto 1.0, a popular open-source autonomous driving framework based on ROS 2. We extend the Lingua Franca coordination language to support distributed execution, port *** to Lingua Franca, and show that our solution avoids the identified problems. We assess the performance of our federated runtime implementation and show that it is competitive for this application. We also compare our achievable throughput to ROS 2 and MQTT using microbenchmarks and find that we can match or exceed the throughput of those frameworks while preserving determinism.

The time-dependent responses of an angle-ply laminated plate with an embedded piezoelectric layer in cylindrical bending is investigated based on the state-space method. Both the interfacial diffusion and sliding are considered to simulate the interlaminar imperfect bonding. Besides, a matrix reduction technique is adopted to establish the global transfer relations of the elastic variables between the piezoelectric layer and the elastic strip. Then, the exact solutions are obtained by solving a set of differential equations with respect to time. The numerical investigation indicates that the coupling effects of the interfacial diffusion and sliding should be considered carefully for the analysis of an imperfectly laminated structures. © 2023 ieee.

The dynamic data driven simulation (DDDS) is a simulation paradigm where the simulation is continuously influenced by fresh data sampled from the real system for better analysis and prediction of the system under study. Traditional DDDS operates in the 'computation away from data' mode, which would incur long response time, high network bandwidth requirement, and critical information loss. This paper proposes a novel distributed dynamic data driven simulation paradigm. In this paradigm, each participated simulation models a portion of a system, while all the participants collectively model the whole system. Additionally, each simulation assimilates data collected locally to produce local state estimations, which are aggregated somehow to generate global state estimation. The proposed simulation paradigm is supposed to have properties such as shorter response time, lower network bandwidth requirement, and less information loss. Finally, a case is studied to illustrate the effectiveness of the novel simulation paradigm. © 2023 ieee.
