Point cloud video is an effective method to represent moving objects for metaverse applications. real-time streaming of point cloud video can offer truly immersive experiments for metaverse users. However, point cloud videos have an extremely high data rate and demand significant processing resources for compression and rendering at the user device. To address the above challenges, this paper presents a novel server-driven view-aware point cloud video streaming system that can effectively reduce bandwidth requirements by combining hidden point removal and video-based point cloud encoding. Experiment results show that the proposed method can reduce the bandwidth requirement by up to 24% compared to the baseline method. © 2024 ieee.

Elastic scheduling is a framework to reduce task utilizations (often by increasing periods) in response to system overload. This paper extends elastic scheduling to uniprocessor scheduling of implicit-deadline task sets for which periods must remain harmonic. We argue that for tasks with periods constrained to continuous intervals, the problem of selecting harmonic periods from those intervals is unlikely to have a polynomial time solution. However, we outline an approach that is pseudo-polynomial in the range of acceptable periods. We then show that the problem of elastic scheduling is NP-hard with harmonic constraints. Nonetheless, if a total order is imposed on task periods (a natural restriction in many applications with execution pipelines that synchronize input data sources), the problem can be reduced offline to a lookup table, enabling polynomial-time online adaptation if available CPU bandwidth changes. We implement the proposed algorithm in two real-world applications: the Fast Integrated Mobility Spectrometer (FIMS) and ORB-SLAM3. We demonstrate that elastic scheduling allows FIMS to adjust its execution to avoid missing deadlines on a SWaP-constrained computational platform, and that it improves ORB-SLAM3's localization results by as much as lO.4x when available CPU bandwidth changes dynamically during runtime.

Ultra-wideband (UWB) positioning has emerged as a low-cost and dependable localization solution for multiple use cases, from mobile robots to asset tracking within the Industrial IoT. The technology is mature and the scientific literature contains multiple datasets and methods for localization based on fixed UWB nodes. At the same time, research in UWB-based relative localization and infrastructure-free localization is gaining traction, further domains. tools and datasets in this domain are scarce. Therefore, we introduce in this paper a novel dataset for benchmarking infrastructure-free relative localization targeting the domain of multi-robot systems. Compared to previous datasets, we analyze the performance of different relative localization approaches for a much wider variety of scenarios with varying numbers of fixed and mobile nodes. A motion capture system provides ground truth data, are multi-modal and include inertial or odometry measurements for benchmarking sensor fusion methods. Additionally, the dataset contains measurements of ranging accuracy based on the relative orientation of antennas and a comprehensive set of measurements for ranging between a single pair of nodes. Our experimental analysis shows that mean accuracies of 10-20 cm are achievable with relatively simple methods;however, the positioning error can easily increase by an order of magnitude in degenerate scenarios, for which we provide different examples.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) based angiography (OCTA) is a non-invasive imaging methodology that can extract the microvasculature networks within the tissue. real-time OCTA projection can provide a number of advantages for OCTA imaging, e.g., real-time diagnosis, and image-guided treatment/surgery. However, the high computational cost required for real-time OCTA projection is a huge challenge, as the traditional OCTA projection requires Fourier transform and 3D OCTA reconstruction. This study introduces a novel technique, Fast OCTA Projection (FOCTAP), designed to facilitate the creation of en face OCTA projections swiftly and more efficiently. FOCTAP bypasses the need for FFT by directly using the sum of raw OCT interference signals to create en face structural projections, from which the OCTA projection can be extracted using eigen-decomposition. The application of FOCTAP to human palm skin, using a swept-source OCT system, demonstrated significant computational time reduction (at least 16 times) compared to traditional methods. For a conventional data size, FOCTAP took 0.45 seconds to generate one en-face OCTA projection result, substantially quicker than traditional methods using aED (12.48 seconds), bED (7.14 seconds), or wED (1123.38 seconds), on an Intel i9-12900K CPU. FOCTAP maintains processing times under 0.5 seconds, thereby demonstrating a promising potential for real-time OCTA projection. © 2023 ieee.

In the autonomous driving (AD) system, complex data dependencies exist between tasks with different activation rates, making it very hard to analyze systems’ real-time behaviors. This paper formulates the AD system as a multi-rate DAG and proposes an integrated framework to co-analyze the schedulability of individual tasks and the end-to-end latency of task chains in the multi-rate DAG. Integer linear programming (ILP) techniques are developed to guide how to drop redundant workload to increase the chance that timing requirements can be met. This paper proposed one analysis framework which enables an automated process in which designs of the AD system are created, analyzed and refined in an iterative way, i.e., the analysis result in the last iteration provides valuable guidance to redesign the AD system in the next iteration. Experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of our analysis method.

Digital Twin (DT) is a virtual replica of a physical system that is constantly receiving information from different data sources, enhancing its operations and processes through data analytics, predictions and simulations. The development of DTs relies on advancements in cutting-edge technologies namely IoT, Big data, Cloud computing and Artificial Intelligence;and although it was initially conceived in manufacturing, it is currently contributing to the digital transformation of several fields including aeronautics, healthcare, urban planning and agriculture. The existing body of research suggests that it will be expanded in the next few years with the implementation of sophisticated applications, therefore different proposals to achieve collective work between DTs have been investigated. Nevertheless, much research is needed to develop and validate appropriate mechanisms to ensure its successful deployment in complex real-world cases that require collaboration among individual systems. A Federated Digital Twin (FDT) has been identified as a promising solution for this approach, since it allows the interconnection among autonomous DTs in the virtual space, leveraging their advantages and enabling interaction, collaboration and shared learning. Additionally, since a FDT is envisaged as a network of cooperative DTs, cognitive principles can be applied to assist the overall operations through knowledge acquisition and reasoning, leading to an informed and intelligent decision making. This study aims to expand the FDT concept, develop mechanisms for coordination and synchronization based on well-defined FDT goals and connectionism theory. Furthermore, four architectural styles are provided to enable the integration of collaborative DTs within a federated environment, aiming to improve the operations in complex real-world systems. © 2023 ieee.

Aiming at the problems that QT-based real-time process applications in embedded Operating System operating system are slow to load Qt dynamic library and slow to parse Chinese fonts, which affect the startup speed of the program, this paper proposes a method to optimize the startup speed of real-time process applications. This method implements font pre-rendering and independent romfs loading on the basis of the resource pre-caching method. The experimental results show that the proposed method significantly improves the startup speed of the applications.

Scalable video coding (SVC) associated with adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) has provided an excellent solution for transmitting real-time videos. However, some users have bad channel conditions with the base station (BS) and need help getting a good quality of service (QoS). With the fifth generation (5G) of the cellular network, these users can also receive most of the data by device-to-device (D2D) transmissions. In this paper, we focus on live video delivery scenarios. We adopt the multicast Multi-Hop D2D and reuse spectrum spatially to help broadcast the scalable videos. We aim to maximize all users' average quality of service (QoS) by jointly optimizing D2D cluster heads (CHs) selection and channel reuse. The problem is an integer non-linear programming problem, and we decompose the problem into two subproblems: the D2D cluster formation problem and the resource allocation problem. To solve the first subproblem, we propose a greedy algorithm to form D2D clusters that can broadcast more efficiently. We convert the second subproblem to a combination of two partial graph coloring problems in two conflict graphs. An algorithm similar to the recursive largest first (RLF) algorithm but considering the conflicts in both graphs is provided for the second subproblem. We execute numerical simulations to validate the performance of our proposal. © 2024 ieee.

A wireless communications system with a carrier frequency of 245 GHz and a data rate of 30 gigabits per second (Gbps) at a 1.2 m distance is demonstrated. The system consists of low-complexity and real-time baseband modules to provide the high-speed wideband signal processing capability. Multi-channel base-band signals are combined and converted to 15.65±6.25 GHz wideband intermediate frequency (IF) signals. The semiconductor-based THz front-end modules, including mixers and amplifiers, are applied for signal up-and down-conversion and transmission at 245 GHz. A 50 Gbps wireless communication system is currently development, and the technical progress will be presented at the conference. The new wireless communication technology will find great potential for future high-speed communications beyond 5G technology, especially, for space applications, such as intersatellite communication where atmospheric attenuation is negligible. © 2023 ieee.

In recent years, multiple data copies become popular in heterogeneous computing architectures. They enable parallel data transfer among diverse processing units. Tasks executed on such heterogeneous architectures often exhibit heightened re-source competitions and intricate task dependencies, posing challenges in meeting strict timing constraints. Due to the dominant roles of data copies in the heterogeneous architecture, effective scheduling and tight response time analysis could contribute to the timing performance of the entire heterogeneous computing system. In this work, we introduce MATCH, which offers realtime scheduling and end-to-end response time analysis for the multiple parallel data copies that are popular in mainstream heterogeneous architectures. We first identify the aggravated resource competition and task dependency from multiple data copies and comprehensive task execution patterns. Then, we provide a real-time scheduling strategy and cross-granularity schedulability analysis to deal with resource competition and task dependency. Extensive evaluation demonstrates that efficient scheduling and analysis on multiple parallel data copies can significantly improve the schedulability by 55.5%-144.4%. Additionally, experiments conducted on various scales of heterogeneous systems demonstrate that MATCH can significantly reduce pessimism in response time analysis by up to 22.8%-57.5%. Importantly, the proposed approach is compatible with existing scheduling approaches that do not consider multiple parallel data copies and are readily applied to off-the-shelf heterogeneous computing systems.
