The conditional normalized flow model can alleviate the ill-posed nature of super-resolution problems by learning the conditional distribution of the output for a given low-resolution input, which allows multiple predictions for a given low-resolution image. However, the model may generate confusing artifacts in the high-frequency region of the image. While giving a smaller reduction in temperature would solve this problem, it would also smooth out the model's output, which would lead to a decrease in perceptual quality. In this paper, we propose a novel conditional normalizing flow-based distribution adaptation strategy for image Super-Resolution. More specifically, we demonstrate that the part of the latent variable that differs significantly between the latent variables of HR and the Bicubic of LR, contains mainly high-frequency information of the image. We adopt a Bicubic image of LR and a continuous threshold function to evaluate different temperatures in different latent variables. In this way, We can further alleviate generation of confusing artifacts without reducing perceptual quality. Extensive experiments show that our model can outperform state-of-the-art methods and generate more visually favorable results. © 2022 ieee.

In communications systems Cognitive Radio applications CR are being applied, because CR will increase the utilization of spectrum. For example, spectrum of TV White Space TVWS that is allocated but are underutilized today and also that spectrum which will become free after digital switchover DSO. In this paper, for first time, investigate the spectrum utilization pattern in range from 470 MHz to 790 MHz (UHF) in 18 cities in Malaysia. Over the course of seven days, the signal intensity energy was monitored in a number of frequency ranges. This study investigates variations in TVWS depending on the significance of CR’s broadcast power and position. The analysis support reasonable opportunistic between cognitive radio devices and underutilize spectrum, and present the initial quantifiable study of accessibility of TVWS spectrum in Malaysia.

This paper describes a work on an acoustic user authentication system using smartphones. The system implements two-factor authentication for Windows workstations, where the authentication procedure, including locking and unlocking the workstation is transparent to the user. Since workstations and smartphones have built-in microphones and speakers, the system does not require additional hardware. The uniqueness of the solution is being based on acoustic signals. These signals are transmitted by the user's smartphone and received by the workstation microphone. The system is “pure play acoustic” since no wiring or radio transmission is used. The system configuration supports multiple users in the same area. Eavesdropping prevention is provided by sequentially generated random one-time keys. Acoustic communication can be applied either in the audible range or beyond the human hearing range depending on the sampling rate of the smartphone and the workstation.

Virtual Reality (VR) applications take users' Head-Mounted Display (HMD) and controller trajectories as inputs for an immersive experience. Leakage of these trajectories threatens user privacy in several aspects, including but not limited to their identities. Existing privacy-preserving approaches, however, overlook the temporal correlation of VR user trajectories, which could be leveraged by attackers. In this paper, we develop a disturber to perturb VR user trajectories in both temporal and spatial domains on the fly. Such trajectory perturbations could, unfortunately, lead to distorted rendered VR viewports. Thus, we develop a compensator to recover from such distortion using efficient image-warping algorithms. Our evaluation results show the merits of our proposed solution: (i) our disturber alone reduces at most 0.42 re-identification rate of VR users compared to the state-of-the-art approach, (ii) our disturber alone outperforms the state-of-the-art approach by 2.43 dB in PSNR, 0.13 in SSIM, and 8.15 in VMAF under the same privacy-preserving settings, and (iii) our compensator further boosts the visual quality of a VR application by at most 6.83 dB in PSNR, 0.45 in SSIM, and 34.57 in VMAF, compared to disturber-only solution.

visual Commonsense Reasoning (VCR) is a challenging task that requires a model to select the correct answer in the context of a given image and question, while also providing a reasonable explanation to justify the chosen answer. In this paper, we propose a novel dual-branch attention network model that effectively models dense intra-modal and inter-modal interactions. Our model utilizes a self-attention mechanism to attend to visual and textual information independently, while employing a bidirectional guided attention mechanism to facilitate effective interaction between different modalities, thus correlating visual information with textual information. By stacking multiple dual-branch attention modules (DBAs), our model is capable of deeply exploring data features and extracting more powerful and informative prior features. By achieving a common focus on visual and textual information, we enhance the subtlety of our understanding and significantly improve our ability to perform visual reasoning. Our comprehensive and qualitative assessments on the public VCR dataset illustrate that our methodology surpasses most models, providing a new solution for visual Commonsense Reasoning tasks.

In this paper, a image processing method called VRHI is developed to enhance single hazy images. More specifically, inspired by visual characteristics of haze, a haze density estimation model is designed to predict the haze distribution. According to this recognized haze distribution, a quadtree based recursive strategy is subsequently proposed to locate the atmospheric light. Finally, by combining a global-wise adjusting mechanism and atmospheric scattering model, the haze cover in an image can be easily excluded using the estimated parameters. It is worth mentioning that VRHI is based on whole image to search the unknown parameters, thereby avoiding some unfavorable phenomena, e.g., over-enhancement and color distortion. Extensive experiments on real-world images and well-known dehazing datasets show that VRHI outperforms state-of-the-art techniques in robustness and effectiveness.

With the fast advancement of the digital technology, the proper combination is essential for the modern models. Hence, this paper studies the intelligent construction of the aesthetic evaluation system based on the multi-camera automatic switching algorithm of director. The digital guidance system is a brand-new guidance system born with the development of digital technology, network and computer IP technology in response to the needs of radio services, which has changed the traditional guidance mode. The design of this system realizes the function of video soft guide under the frame of image scene recognition. The currently supported video coding is only limited to H. 264 video format, the system can realize the function of video director according to different distribution rules, and achieve good results in the smoothness and real-time of the video. Through the testing under the different scenarios, the proposed model is validated on the self-collected and public data sets. © 2022 ieee.

With increasing attention to underwater observation and utilization of marine resources, people's demand for underwater vision continues to increase. The processing of underwater images has received more and more attention. Underwater image quality evaluation plays a crucial role in underwater image processing technology and is also an important standard for underwater image enhancement. In this paper, we proposed a new no-reference underwater image quality evaluation method, which selects three indexes related to the human visual system: chroma, definition, and contrast. The chroma is calculated by saturation and the ratio of red channels to green and blue channels;the definition is calculated through the maximum gradient value and the detail content of the image;the contrast is calculated by the standard deviation of the image pixel value. The new underwater image evaluation index uses a linear combination of three attribute values. Experimental results show that this method can effectively evaluate the quality of underwater images based on the perception of human eyes. © 2021 ieee.

In today’s media landscape, the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in shaping societal perspectives and journalistic integrity is becoming increasingly apparent. This paper presents two case studies centred on Malta’s media market featuring technical novelty. Despite its relatively small scale, Malta offers invaluable insights applicable to both similar and broader media contexts. These two projects focus on media monitoring and present tools designed to analyse potential biases in news articles and television news segments. The first project uses Computer Vision and Natural Language processing techniques to analyse the coherence between images in news articles and their corresponding captions, headlines, and article bodies. The second project employs computer vision techniques to track individuals’ on-screen time or visual exposure in news videos, providing queryable data. These initiatives aim to contribute to society by providing both journalists and the public with the means to identify biases. Furthermore, we make these tools accessible to journalists to improve the trustworthiness of media outlets by offering robust tools for detecting and reducing bias.

Scientists run simulation ensembles to study the behavior of a phenomenon using varying initial conditions or input parameters. However, the I/O bottlenecks hinder performing large-scale multidimensional simulations. In situ visualization approaches address the variability of I/O performance by processing output data during simulation time and saving predetermined visualizations in image databases. This poster proposes a visual analytics approach to exploring and analyzing image-based simulation ensembles, taking advantage of semantic interaction, feature extraction, and deep learning techniques. Our approach uses deep learning and local feature techniques to learn image features and pass them along with the input parameters to the visualization pipeline for in-depth exploration and analysis of parameter and ensemble spaces simultaneously. © 2022 The Author(s) Eurographics Proceedings © 2022 The Eurographics Association.
