This paper discusses the architectures of the TM-66 swiFFT DSP chip, the algorithms that the swiFFT chip is optimized for, the design of the S2 vector processing node that uses it, and applications of the above. The architecture of the swiFFT chip is optimized for real-time DSP processing in general, and the FFT algorithm in particular. It uses twenty ieee 32-bit floating point adders and multipliers to sustain 680 MFLOPS during FFT processing and other algorithms, making it one of the fastest floating point DSP chips generally available. This paper discusses in detail the internal architecture, the tradeoffs between performance and generality, and the implementation of the FFT and other algorithms using this chip. In conclusion, some brief design overviews of a dual TM-66 board and an FFT building-block module are given to illustrate data flow through, and control of, the TM-66 swiFFT chip.

Over the past years, there has been a considerable amount of research in the field of QoS support for (distributed) multimedia systems, ie, multimedia processing in, for example, a (networked) workstation environment. QoS for multimedia systems is about media processing in software, using dynamically scalable functions, and trading resources for quality. Unlike QoS for mainstream multimedia systems, QoS support for high volume electronics (HVE) consumer terminals (CT), such as digital TV sets, digitally improved analog TV sets and STB (set-top boxes), has received little attention in the literature. This paper considers multimedia QoS for consumer terminals, with focus on the high-quality video domain.

as process geometries shrink, the Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) cost is increasing;the ability to make post-fabrication changes to System-on-Chip (SoC) is becoming more and more attractive. This ability can be realized by embedding a PLC (Programmable Logic Core) into a SoC. However, the design of PLC is a complex and daunting process;there are many issues to be addressed such as architecture, performance and flexibility. Most of these issues are related to design methodology. In this paper, a novel design method based on standard cells is proposed. With this method, not only bi-directional routing resources in the PLC fabric can be maintained which largely saves the area, but the semi-custom design approach can be adopted which greatly enhances design efficiency. In order to verify this method, a proof-of-concept PLC prototype has been designed and fabricated. Meanwhile, relevant CAD Tools have also been presented. The experimental results prove this design methodology. This paper also discusses the performance and the area of PLC designed with this method.

Remote Sensing Satellites orbit around the Earth around 600-900 kilometers in sun synchronous polar orbit. Each satellite transmits the image data in X-band and the data reception is carried out through a parabolic antenna along with the associated systems. The entire data acquisition system is complex and expensive as it has to meet the requirements of the fast orbiting remote sensing satellites. During the visibility of the satellite, the data is acquired at the acquisition systems, frame synchronized band separated and displayed in the monitor in real-time. The authors of this Paper used the concept of archiving the RAW data directly to Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (RAID) in Real-time and also to provide on the fly Sub-sampled video image display using generic PC Based Linux Servers available in the industry. Handling of high speed image data from satellite involves de-randomization, decryption and decompression in real time. Innovative multiplexing techniques are used for digital correlation to increase the operating speed. Effective system design strategies rely on appropriate matching of systems hardware, software and environment. This needs the proper evaluation of the system environment. Schedulers for a realtime system are concerned with maximizing resource utilization subject to meeting system timing constraints. Priority-driven presumptive schedulers used in realtime systems require predictable cache performance. The design involved shared memory concepts, cache memory handling, Image data handling and transfer to RAID while each system handles the data of around 500 GB per day. The paper deals with a generalized design of such system using a common platform as a part of Indian Remote Sensing Satellite Program and supplied to many users around the world. The DSN is the communication gateway to NASA's Earth Orbiting and planetary spacecraft. The DSN is unique among space communication systems in that it is link configurable. For each pass of a spacecraft, there is a set of antennas, receivers. transmitters, and other signalprocessing subsystems which can be combined to complete a tracking cycle. In the past, when the number of orbiting satellites and planetary spacecraft were fairly small, manual control of this complex tracking system was manageable. However, with the growth in planned missions for Mars, Venus, the sun. outer planets. comet flybys. and asteroid encounters. it is becoming increasingly clear that the complex tasks associated with antenna control/coordination and telemetry capture will eventually overwhelm existing tracking crews. Mistakes in data entry/retrieval can result in loss of valuable science data as well as spacecraft control blackout.
