This study introduces a receiver architecture for dual-functional communication and radar (RadCom) base stations (BS), which exploits the spatial diversity between the received radar and communication signals, and performs interference cancellation (IC) to successfully separate these signals. In the RadCom system under consideration, both communication and radar systems employ orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) waveforms with overlapping subcarriers. Employing OFDM waveform allows the BS to simultaneously perform uplink channel estimation on the narrow-band subcarriers to efficiently obtain full channel state information (CSI) between the users (UEs) and the BS antenna elements. The estimated CSI matrix is then utilized to acquire uplink data streams from the UEs by suppressing the inter-user interference and radar signals which arrive at the BS through unknown channels. After acquiring the UEs' data, radar signals are extracted from the received complex baseband signals by performing interference cancellation. The proposed method has been analyzed mathematically and verified by simulations under various conditions including CSI mismatch and high radar interference. The results show that 16QAM modulated uplink is outstandingly robust against radar interference and that having a large number of antennas significantly improves the performance of both communication and radar subsystems, cooperatively. This study shows that it is possible to distinguish radar and communication signals by employing large-scale antenna arrays to successfully realize a RadCom receiver for future communication networks.

The performance of high-speed wireline and wireless subsystems highly depends on their clock quality. As data rates continue to scale aggressively, practical understanding of clocking design tradeoffs to optimize system power and area while achieving target bandwidth is crucial. In this short course, different aspects of clocking from circuit implementation to system architecture are discussed to provide insight into challenges and design choices for an optimum clocking solution. Clock generation techniques such as phase-locked loops (PLLs), delay-locked loops (DLLs) and injection-locked oscillators (ILOs) are also discussed. The design tradeoffs among various clock distribution techniques are presented. Clock recovery architectures and their impact on overall system performance are explained. To mitigate process variation, variation-tolerant circuits and clock calibration techniques are required. Energy-efficient clocking solutions can be achieved by active power minimization, amortization and aggressive power management methods. Examples of state-of-the-art clocking circuit and architecture solutions are presented.

Massive MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) is a sub-6 GHz wireless access technology, and it is one of the key enabling technologies for the next-generation wireless networks. Massive MIMO groups together antennas at both transmitter and the receiver and achieves high spectral and energy efficiency. Although massive MIMO offers immense benefits, it has to overcome some implementation challenges to make this system a reality. One of the fundamental issues in the massive MIMO system is the uplink signal detection, which becomes inefficient and computationally complex with a large number of antennas. In this paper, we propose an accelerated and preconditioned refinement of the Gauss-Seidel method for uplink signal detection in massive MIMO systems. We further increase the convergence rate of the proposed algorithm by applying Jacobi preconditioner and introducing a novel matrix initialization scheme. The simulations results show that the proposed algorithm achieves near-optimal Bit Error Rate (BER) performance, and it is computationally efficient, compared to conventional detection algorithms. Additionally, we also propose a novel hardware architecture for our proposed algorithm, which helps to identify the required physical components and their interrelationships.

The recently proposed orthogonal time frequency and space (OTFS) waveform promises significant performance advantages for high mobility users. OTFS is a pulse-shaped multicarrier scheme with Gabor (Weyl-Heisenberg) structure and additional time-frequency (TF) spreading. The spreading of the symbols over the TF domain is utilizing the symplectic Fourier transform (SFFT). For coherent communication OTFS requires proper channel information and the use of appropriated equalizers to exploit the full spreading gain. The doubly-dispersive channel is first estimated with pilot and guard symbols placed in the delay-Doppler (DD) domain. One-tap equalization, favored due to their lower complexity, is then performed in the TF domain. However, an accurate estimation of the self-interference power is necessary to exploit full diversity with such linear equalizer. To enable short-frame vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication, we propose to instantaneously estimate the self-interference power using pilot and guard symbols for tuning the minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizer. We evaluate this approach for vehicular channels generated by the geometric-statistical channel simulator Quadriga and with an OTFS transceiver architecture based on a polyphase implementation for orthogonalized Gaussian pulses. Comparing to a ieee 802.11p compliant design, we show that in such vehicular scenarios OTFS significantly outperforms cyclic-prefix based orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) when instantaneously tuning the equalizer. Our results also indicate that with such an approach the promised OTFS gains can indeed be obtained with a linear equalizer. © WSA 2020.

In this paper, we propose an intelligent building control system based on Browser/Server(B/S) architecture that allows intelligent control of construction equipment and integrate multiple subsystems. The system is compatible with three communication protocols and intellectualized control is realized by logic control based on Event-Condition-Action(ECA) rules. The system adopts Agilor distributed real-time database system to ensure high real-time performance. The design of distributed system ensures the stability of system by ensuring that the service failure in a single area of system does not affect normal operation of other areas. The system provides six kinds of interfaces, which makes system have strong integration. The research of system architecture provides a general model in the field of intelligent building for enabling communication and computing infrastructure for industrial Artificial I ntelligence(AI).

Hybrid beamforming architecture is a practical implementation in millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication systems with large-scale antenna arrays for future fifth-generation (5G) cellular networks, which offers a compromise between hardware complexity and system performance. Fully-connected and sub-connected are two popular connected structures in the hybrid beamforming architecture. However, the hardware complexity and the required number of phase shifters in the fully-connected structure is rather high when the number of RF chains increases. Sub-connected structure can effectively decrease the required number of phase shifters but at the expense of beamforming gain loss of each RF chain. In this paper, we consider an overlapped subarray structure between fully-connected and sub-connected structures and determine how many antenna elements should be connected for each RF chain. For the mmWave downlink multi-user multiple-input multiple-out (MIMO) communication, we design a two-stage hybrid beamforming algorithm based on the overlapped subarray structure. Simulation results indicate that there exists a best cost-effective overlapped subarray spacing associated with the required number of phase shifters for the sparse mmWave channel, which provides a guideline for the design of hybrid beamforming architecture.

Given a sparse matrix A, the selected inversion algorithm is an efficient method for computing certain selected elements of A-1. These selected elements correspond to all or some nonzero elements of the LU factors of A. In many ways, the types of matrix updates performed in the selected inversion algorithm are similar to those performed in the LU factorization, although the sequence of operations is different. In the context of LU factorization, it is known that the leftlooking and right-looking algorithms exhibit different memory access and data communication patterns, and hence different behavior on shared memory and distributed memory parallel machines. Corresponding to right-looking and left-looking LU factorization, the selected inversion algorithm can be organized as a left-looking or a right-looking algorithm. The parallel right-looking version of the algorithm has been developed in [9]. The sequence of operations performed in this version of the selected inversion algorithm is similar to those performed in a left-looking LU factorization algorithm. In this paper, we describe the left-looking variant of the selected inversion algorithm, and present an efficient implementation of the algorithm for shared memory machines using a task parallel method. We demonstrate that with the task scheduling features provided by OpenMP 4.0, the left-looking selected inversion algorithm can scale well both on the Intel Haswell multicore architecture and on the Intel Knights Landing (KNL) manycore architecture up to 16 and 64 cores, respectively. On the KNL architecture, we observe that the maximum parallel efficiency achieved by the left-looking selected inversion algorithm can be as high as 62% even when all 64 cores are used, despite the inherent asynchronous nature of the computation and communication patterns in sparse matrix operations. Compared to the right-looking selected inversion algorithm, the left-looking formulation facilitates efficient pipelining of operations

Universal Filtered Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (UF-OFDM) is considered one of the main waveform candidates to overcome the challenges facing the next generation of mobile communication systems. Due to its spectral properties it can support relaxed synchronization, low-latency communications and flexible time transmission interval. Nevertheless, the available recent literature addresses the potential of this waveform mainly from communication performance perspective, and sometimes presents a rough estimation of the complexity. Therefore, it becomes high of interest to seek efficient hardware implementations. In this paper, a reduced complexity pipelined architecture is proposed for UF-OFDM frequency domain transmitter. Using LTE parameters, the proposed UF-OFDM FDA architecture uses around 3.6 times less hardware ressources than the straightforward implementation.
