Among the promising advantages of photonic computing over conventional computing architectures is the potential to increase computing efficiency through massive parallelism by using the many degrees of freedom provided by photonics. Here, we numerically demonstrate the simultaneous use of time and frequency (equivalently wavelength) multiplexing to solve three independent tasks at the same time on the same photonic circuit. In particular, we consider a microring-based time-delay reservoir computing (TDRC) scheme that simultaneously solves three tasks: Time-series prediction, classification, and wireless channel equalization. The scheme relies on time-division multiplexing to avoid the necessity of multiple physical nonlinear nodes, while the tasks are parallelized using wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). The input data modulated on each optical channel is mapped to a higher dimensional space by the nonlinear dynamics of the silicon microring cavity. The carrier wavelength and input power assigned to each optical channel have a high influence on the performance of its respective task. When all tasks operate under the same wavelength/power conditions, our results show that the computing nature of each task is the deciding factor of the level of performance achievable. However, it is possible to achieve good performance for all tasks simultaneously by optimizing the parameters of each optical channel. The variety of applications covered by the tasks shows the versatility of the proposed photonic TDRC scheme. Overall, this work provides insight into the potential of WDM-based schemes for improving the computing capabilities of reservoir computing schemes.

Digital Twin (DT) has been proposed as a key enabling technology to produce a digital clone of the physical world and facilitate the convergence of the physical and virtual worlds for building a real-world Metaverse. For physical-virtual synchronization, crowdsensing is applied to employ Internet of Things (IoT) devices to sense physical objects and collect status information for timely updating the associated DTs. However, an incentive mechanism is necessitated to stimulate the devices to perform sensing tasks while meeting task requirements such as Age of Information (AoI) requirements. Thus, we adopt a contract theoretic approach to design an incentive mechanism for the devices that are classified into several types and the type parameters are unknown to others. The contract consists of a set of contract items with each contract item representing a device type, which specifies the required data updating frequency and monetary reward. We formulate an optimal contract design problem subject to feasible constraints including the average AoI requirement for each device type. Furthermore, we solve the problem by transforming it into a convex optimization problem that can be directly tackled by the existing methods. Finally, we provide numerical results to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our scheme. © ifip international Federation for Information Processing 2025.

To maintain dependable and effective operation, especially in islanded microgrid situations, integrating Distributed Generation (DG) units and renewable energy sources into electrical grids has required sophisticated control systems. In the present work a parallel connected DG integrates with solar PV, wind, and Ideal DC Voltage for an islanded microgrid with droop control technique has been proposed. This work used the improved droop control method for parallel-connected DG systems in islanded mode to ensure stable voltage and frequency of the system. The droop control technique, which has been around for a while in AC microgrid load sharing, has been improved to handle the issues of isolated network voltage and frequency stability. Droop coefficients are optimized as part of the proposed approach to improve dynamic responsiveness and reduce circulating currents between parallel inverters. The droop control technique controls voltage and frequency. A model of the proposed system has been modelled in MATLAB/ Simulink and results are verified under shifting load conditions and sources. © 2024 IEEE.

To solve the problem of high time cost in power flow calculation of urban rail transit traction power supply network, research on using an acceleration algorithm to reduce calculation time was carried out. As the complexity and scale of urban rail transit traction power supply network systems continue to increase, traditional serial calculation methods can no longer meet actual needs. Using parallel algorithms for optimization has become an important solution to improve the speed and efficiency of power flow calculations. In this optimization algorithm, the traction power supply network data in the database is read in batches, and based on the train's running time, the MapReduce model and process pool are used to process and calculate the fragmented data in parallel. Finally, the results are merged and output. Such an optimization algorithm can make full use of the performance of parallel computing devices, such as multi-core CPUs while reducing the time of data transmission and processing, thereby effectively improving the speed and efficiency of power flow calculations. Experimental results show that the optimization effect of using this parallel algorithm is closely related to the number of parallel processes and CPU cores. The more cores are, the more obvious the optimization effect is. In the experiments of this article, the acceleration effect is optimal when the number of CPU cores is equal to the number of processes. The calculation time required after optimization is about 1/6 of that before optimization. © 2024 IEEE.

Specific road works in specific areas or management units often do not have as diverse characteristic data as general decision-making studies in the allocation and use of actual maintenance funds for decision-making. The data that can be used in specific decisions are usually mainly monitoring data reflecting the pavement condition, and the most practical decision trees often need to be manually adjusted by experienced engineers in conjunction with actual conditions. To solve this problem, a neural network model is proposed to construct a decision tree update method suitable for a specific project scope;to construct a current maintenance and repair decision implementation scheme based on 3-year maintenance planning limited by funds for the problem of limited pavement maintenance. © 2024 ACM.

Multicore platforms play an important role in parallel computing systems. To balance energy consumption and high-performance computing, Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS) is a popular technology as it adjusts the voltage/frequency of the processor during the task execution process according to the workload. However, considering task real-time and relevance constraints, how to allocate tasks to processors and dynamically adjust voltage/frequency becomes a challenge, especially by using a low computation complexity method. In this paper, we propose a dynamic scheduling algorithm based on deep reinforcement learning. It combines Actor and Critic with graph attention neural networks (GAT) that can directly process graph-structured data introduced by task dependency. Moreover, an effective task graph feature embedding method was designed to improve energy efficiency. Finally, the performance of the proposed method is evaluated by comparison with the optimal method in different simulation settings. The results show that our has a much less computing time but only with 10% performance loss.

Low-rate-Denial-of-Service (LDoS) attack poses a significant threat to network service quality and even has the potential to cause network paralysis. Therefore, it is urgent to conduct research on LDoS. However, the deployment of extension modules for online attack detection in traditional networks is a formidable undertaking due to the limited flexibility and scalability inherent in conventional network equipment. Software-Defined networking (SDN) offers a viable solution to this challenge. SDN represents an innovative network architecture that delivers both flexibility and programmability by segregating the network Control Plane from the Data forwarding Plane, thereby enabling real-time detection of LDoS attack. In this paper, we implemented a real-time LDoS attack detection system on SDN, with Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) serving as the primary method for identifying LDoS attack. Furthermore, we employed RYU as the SDN controller, utilized the Mininet simulation software to create network topologies, and employed attack code to simulate a real LDoS attack environment. The XGBoost classifier is applied to detect LDoS attack in the real-time network traffic collected by the OpenFlow protocol, and its performance is compared with that of several other classifiers. Experimental results conclusively demonstrated that XGBoost exhibited the most optimal detection performance, achieving accuracy and F1 scores of 97.43% and 98.37%,respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

network delay is a crucial indicator for realizing delay-sensitive task offloading, network management, and optimization in B5G/6G edge computing networks. However, the delay prediction for edge networks becomes complicated due to diverse access strategies and heterogeneous services' storage, computing, and communication resource requirements. Current GNN-based delay prediction models such as RouteNet and PLNet lack the ability to express the complex associations between links and paths, so the predicted delay is not accurate. In this paper, we propose a novel end-to-end delay prediction model named MixerNet for edge computing, which is based on the mixed multi-layer perceptron (MLP). In this model, a mixed MLP architecture is applied to represent the association between links in the network topology and various paths. Observing that each link may have different effects on various paths, a weight matrix is then defined and multiplied by the path matrix to express it. Thus, a complete mapping frame from network characteristics (e.g., traffic intensity and routing schemes) to delay indicator is constructed. Finally, we perform extensive experiments on NSFNET and GEANT2 datasets and regard RouteNet as the baseline model. Experimental results show that MixerNet can accurately predict end-to-end delay results on various network topologies and the mean absolute error is merely about 0.36%. MixerNet also outperforms the baseline model in most evaluation indicators, especially the mean square error has a 3-fold decrease in NSFNET.

Docker image storage systems, like Docker registry, often employ deduplication to reduce storage overhead. Existing deduplication methods for these systems detect redundancy at either layer or file level, each with its own advantages and limitations. Layer-level deduplication offers much faster restoration but lower deduplication ratio, as it eliminates duplicate layers while ignoring duplicate files across layers. Conversely, file-level deduplication offers a higher deduplication ratio but slower restoration, as removing duplicate files scatters the files of a layer, leading to multiple disk read I/O during restoration. Our analysis reveals that the slow restoration in file-level deduplication partly stems from ignoring file-layer relationships. In this paper, we propose MiDedup, a new Docker deduplication method. MiDedup detects redundancy at file-level and organizes files into a restore-friendly layout by considering file-layer relationships to enhance restore speed. Our studies also show that duplicated files of one layer are not uniformly distributed across different layers. MiDedup uses this insight to skip deduplicating scattered files to further optimize the file layout for faster restoration. Evaluations indicate that MiDedup achieves restore speeds that are 8–19× faster than file-level deduplication (slightly slower than layer-level one), while maintaining 9–47% higher deduplication ratios than layer-level deduplication. © ifip international Federation for Information Processing 2025.

The allreduce operation is the most commonly used collective operation in distributed or parallel applications. It aggregates data collected from distributed hosts and broadcasts the aggregated result back to them. In-network computing can accelerate allreduce by offloading this operation into network devices. However, existing in-network solutions face the challenge of high throughput, performance of aggregating large message and producing repeatable results. In this work, we propose a simple and effective router microarchitecture for in-network allreduce, which uses an RDMA protocol to improve its throughput. We further discuss strategies to tackle the aforementioned challenges. Our approach not only shows advantages in comparison with the state-of-the-art in-network solutions, but also accelerates allreduce at a near-optimal level compared to host-based algorithms, as demonstrated through experiments.
