In sensor network applications, data gathering mechanisms, which are based on multi-hop forwarding, can be expensive in terms of energy. This limitation challenges the use of sensor networks for applications that demand a predefined operational-lifetime. To avoid this problem, using of Mobile Element (ME) as a mechanical data carrier has emerged as a promising approach. However, practical considerations such as the ME speed and route planning, sensor buffer size and data frequency generation constraints impose limits on this approach. To address these issues, we propose a natural hybrid approach that combines two approaches of ME and multi-hop forwarding. We consider the problem of determining the path of the ME, in which the length of this path is bounded by predetermined length. This path will visit a subset of the nodes. These selected nodes will work as caching points and will aggregate the other nodes' data. The caching point nodes are selected with the aim of reducing the energy expenditures due to multi-hop forwarding. To address this problem, we present a heuristic-based solution and compare its performance against the optimal solution. We obtain the optimal solution by providing an Integer Linear Program for this problem.

This paper attempts to identify the reliability of detection of licensed primary transmission based on cooperative sensing in cognitive radio networks. With a parallel fusion network model, the correlation issue of the received signals between the nodes in the worst case is derived. Leveraging the property of false sensing data due to malfunctioning or malicious software, the optimizing strategy, namely Fault-Tolerant algorithm for Distributed Detection (FTDD) is proposed, and quantitative analysis of false alarm reliability and detection probability under the scheme is presented. In particular, the tradeoff between licensed transmissions and user cooperation among nodes is discussed. Simulation experiments are also used to evaluate the fusion performance under practical settings. The model and analytic results provide useful tools for reliability analysis for other wireless decentralization-based applications (e.g., those involving robust spectrum sensing).

In this paper we present FPGA implementation of Artificial Neural networks for image compression. Image compression is a process which minimizes the size of an image file to an unacceptable level without degrading the quality of the image. The main components of an artificial neuron are adders and multipliers. In order to implement neural network, large number of adders and multipliers are required. The main constraint in the implementation of neural network is the area occupied by the multipliers. In order to overcome this area we propose the use of constant coefficient multiplier like distributed arithmetic (DA) based multiplier. The area efficiency is obtained by use of adders and shifters in Distributed arithmetic based multiplier architecture. The distributed arithmetic based multiplier is made use to implement 4:4:2:2:4 and 16:16:8:8:16 artificial neural network architecture for image compression. These architectures are implemented on FPGA and area efficiency is obtained.

This work describes a parallel neural network emulator which uses standard DSPs and application-specific VLSI communication processors with an integrated hardware routing algorithm. The use of DSPs as programmable processing elements enables the emulation of different types of neurons including biologically inspired models with learnable synaptic weights and delays, variable neuron gain, and static and dynamic thresholding. Locally interconnected communication processors attached to each DSP can span up a 2D- or 3D-computing grid and thus form a highly parallelnetwork topology capable of global packet switched routing.
