Protecting privacy in remote-patient monitoring

Audio-video-based remote-patient monitoring via the Internet raises privacy issues that only clearly defined confidentiality and authentication requirements for secure Internet communication can address. MPEG compression technologies can transmit high-quality audio-video via the Internet so that a family member can use an office PC or wireless mobile terminal to monitor a bedridden patient's image and vital signs while a caregiver runs errands. However, such systems raise privacy concerns. Transmitting unprotected audio-visual signals, compressed in a standard format, over the Internet carries the risk that someone can monitor these transmissions, accidentally or intentionally. For medical and healthcare applications, security issues in the Internet's transport and network layers cause the most concern. Although encryption can protect data, using such technology for remote-patient monitoring should not compromise Internet accessibility and performance. Patient-monitoring applications require excellent performance and quality of service to provide accurate live information to the monitoring side. Thus, the performance of the end-to-end Internet infrastructure itself must be the subject of future study.

Compressive Sensing (CS) based imaging (CSI) method can recover N pixel information from only M measurements with N >> M, if the source information is sparse in some domain. With help of CSI mechanism an imaging system could capture information directly, meanwhile, the confidentiality could be also supported with some configuration due to the random projection, i.e., CSI method integrates sensing, compression and encryption in one step. However, image should he also protected against tampering and forgery, which could be realized by providing the origin and integrity. Since CSI method captures measurements instead of pixel information, the authenticity should he provided in an unconventional but semantic way. This paper introduces an Authenticated Encrypted Compressive Sensing based Imaging (AE-CSI) mechanism, which is constructed by the existed CSMAC and improved CSI mechanism, such that the system provides the origin, integrity and confidentiality of the target image while the sensing process.

In this paper, an image transmission system utilizing chaos-based watermarking technique for copyright protection of the image transmission system is demonstrated experimentally. This system assures when pirated image is found, the illegal user can be traced. The user's message after chaotic encryption as watermark can be embedded into image. Experimental results show our system which is used for a web-based image transmission is effective and robust. Especially, user's message can also be extracted from the watermark image under diverse attacks such as some image-processing operations and Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) compression.

This paper presents SecretPixel, a steganographic tool that integrates random embedding techniques and advanced encryption to securely hide data within images. SecretPixel ensures confidentiality and integrity of the embedded data using AES-2S6 and RSA-4096 encryption algorithms. The Pixel Scattered Embedding (PSE) method hides encrypted information across image pixels, using a seeded random generator, enhancing resistance against steganalysis detection. This combination of two-tiered encryption, efficient compression and embedding strategies makes SecretPixel an effective solution for data concealment in digital communication. © 2024 IEEE.

All kinds of information should be compressed before being sent over the web to save time & expense. The primary goal of this article is to create and construct a systematic and safe technique for encryption data that can be utilized to carry out a crisp compacting steganography technique. The approach may be used to reduce the volume of data sent with each transfer, allowing for faster delivery when utilizing sluggish web or taking up less space on a drive. The study offers a densification with steno approach that may be utilized to hide information with substantial privacy and complete invisible by combining RSA encryption technique with steganography expertise such as RLE (Run-length encoding), Huffman coding, DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform) with LSB cryptographic technology. The very first process is based on RSA's ability to decode and encode private texts. The next process is compressing, which will include Huffman encoding based approaches to compress confidential stuff using efficient steganography technologies, RLE, which is a traditional approach to encrypt information, or DWT based on hatchbacks covering imagery by loss encryption in order to decrease the covering picture's size. The encrypted information will be implanted in the compressed cover picture using LSB (Least Significant Bit). When compared to various developed countries (Chen et al., 2021;Lakshmanan, 2020;Song et al., 2011;Yang et al., 2021;Ali et al., 2020) of the architecture that uses simulation results, this technique has a good ranking efficiency and a methodical system. © 2021

Recently, some image retrieval systems have begun to move away from histogram techniques and begun to make use of segmentation to extract and index features. The representative color or region color descriptor is more compact and can be easily incorporated with spatial features. However, the spatial feature is less investigated and confined to some simple geometric properties, such as centroid, area, etc. In this paper, we present a novel and efficient scheme for extracting, indexing, and retrieving color images. The scheme is built upon a region-based image retrieval and is based on the observed fact that a small number of colors are usually enough to characterize the color information in an image. First, we propose a color clustering method to better capture color properties of the image, Then, we will present a new method to characterize the spatial feature by using spatial histograms. The proposed method computes image features automatically from a given image and they can be used to retrieve images. The experiments were conducted to establish the retrieval capabilities of our approach. The retrieval quality is measured by the retrieval rate. Experimental results are reported indicating that our approach performs very well and gives very good retrieval efficiency.

The increasing use of digital medical images in healthcare has raised significant concerns regarding their security, privacy, and integrity during transmission and storage. Unauthorized access, tampering, and image manipulation pose severe risks, potentially leading to compromised diagnoses and patient safety issues. This paper presents a novel asymmetric image encryption and watermarking scheme aimed at securing medical images. The proposed scheme integrates cryptographic encryption and digital watermarking to protect sensitive patient information and ensure the authenticity and integrity of medical images. Specifically, the scheme encrypts patient data using asymmetric encryption and embeds the encrypted data into the medical image as a QR code watermark. This watermark is securely embedded into the least significant bits of the image pixels using a clustering algorithm, ensuring resilience against common image distortions, such as noise, rotation, and compression. Experimental results demonstrate the robustness of the proposed scheme, as evidenced by high PSNR and SSIM values, indicating minimal impact on image quality while ensuring strong security. The proposed method offers an efficient solution for enhancing the security of medical images in healthcare systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Block truncation coding (BTC) is an efficient lossy image compression technique, which has the advantage of being easy to implement compared to other block based compression techniques such as transform coding and vector quantization. The principle of the original BTC method is to preserve the block mean and the block standard deviation. Lema and Mitchell present absolute moment BTC (AMBTC) that preserves the higher mean and the lower mean and minimizes the MSE value among the BTC variants that use the mean value as the quantization threshold. However, the bit rate achieved with the original BTC algorithm or the AMBTC algorithm is 2bits/pixel. In this paper, we introduce two simple look-up-table algorithms to code the higher mean and the lower mean of AMBTC, one can reduce the bit rate without any extra distortion, and the other can reduce more bit rate with a little extra distortion. The main idea of the two proposed algorithms is to encode the higher mean and the lower mean together as a mean pair. These two algorithms can be combined with the prediction and interpolation techniques that are used to code the bit plane of BTC to further reduce the total bit rate of AMBTC. We denote the two algorithms as LUTBTC-1 and LUTBTC-2. These two algorithms are used to encode 256-gray images including remote-sensed images. Test results show that the LUTBTC-1 algorithm has the same PSNR as the AMBTC algorithm but has lower bit rate compared to the AMBTC algorithm. The LUTBTC-2 algorithm has a little extra degradation in image quality but has lower bit rate than the AMBTC algorithm and the LUTBTC-1 algorithm. Both LUTBTC-1 and LUTBTC-2 have higher encoding quality than BTC-VQ (the algorithm that uses vector quantization (VQ) to code the mean pairs without using VQ to code the bit plane), and LUTBTC-2 also has lower bit rate than BTC-VQ for ordinary images (not for remote sensed images).

Nowadays, multimedia technology is developing rapidly. However, there is need to provide security and copyright protection to digital image. There are many security algorithms like blowfish, data encryption standards, advanced encryption standard, RSA,RC5,Cast-128, triple data encryption standard, IDEA, etc. The copyright protection can be provided to image by using digital image watermarking techniques. These techniques broadly classified into two broad categories i.e. transform domain technique and spatial domain technique. In this research work, combination of transform domain technique i.e. combined discrete cosine transform with singular value decomposition used for digital image watermarking and 256 bit key advanced encryption algorithm for security of digital image against various attacks, like Gaussian, cropping, salt pepper noise, median attack,jpeg compression attack, etc is discussed. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

This paper unfolds the development of an HDL model on the ASIC platform for the quicker and safer transmission of image data. Secure image encoding was facilitated by the DWT through image compression and AES through encryption. The DWT computation based on lifting scheme algorithm was developed and implemented on ASIC platform. An algorithm that can compute multi-level sub bands using 2D-DWT was developed. Based on compression ratio and data recovery, appropriate sub bands were chosen to reduce the computation time of the AES encryption. The DWT architecture was developed to facilitate high throughput and latency. The HDL model of the DWT architecture and the AES algorithm were developed and validated on the ASIC platform to identify the area, timing and power performance. The ASIC implementation was carried out using 56nm CMOS technology. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2020.
