In this paper we have proposed an image crypto-compression system that guarantees a secure storage and transfer while preserving the performance of the used compression method. Regarding compression, we have chosen to use the discrete cosine transformation (DCT), Huffman coding and RLE because of their efficiency and their use in most current crypto-compression systems. As for encryption, we have made the choice to use the chaos for its good cryptographic properties. Experimental results confirm that our system is efficient, secure and greatly improve the compression ratio of the image while maintaining the performance of the encryption algorithm.

This paper discusses the constructing method of a general integer wavelet transform algorithm. Coupling such an algorithm with subblock differential pulse code modulation (DPCM), an encoding scheme for near-lossless imagecompression is obtained for remote sensing images. This method possesses the following features: (1) real-time processing is possible;(2) hardware implementation is easy;(3) the algorithm is of parallel structure;(4) only addition, subtraction and bit-shift are involved in the processing. Experiments illustrate that our algorithm is an effective encoding scheme to compress remote sensing images.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is widely deployed in monitoring of some physical activity and/or environmental conditions. Data gathered from WSN is transmitted via network to a central location for further processing. Numerous applications of WSN can be found in smart homes, intelligent buildings, health care, energy efficient smart grids and industrial control systems. In recent years, computer scientists has focused towards findings more applications of WSN in multimedia technologies, i.e. audio, video and digital images. Due to bulky nature of multimedia data, WSN process a large volume of multimedia data which significantly increases computational complexity and hence reduces battery time. With respect to battery life constraints, imagecompression in addition with secure transmission over a wide ranged sensor network is an emerging and challenging task in Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks. Due to the open nature of the Internet, transmission of data must be secure through a process known as encryption. As a result, there is an intensive demand for such schemes that is energy efficient as well as highly secure since decades. In this paper, discrete wavelet-based partial imageencryption scheme using hashing algorithm, chaotic maps and Hussain's S-Box is reported. The plaintext image is compressed via discrete wavelet transform and then the image is shuffled column-wise and row wise-wise via Piece-wise Linear Chaotic Map (PWLCM) and Nonlinear Chaotic Algorithm, respectively. To get higher security, initial conditions for PWLCM are made dependent on hash function. The permuted image is bitwise XORed with random matrix generated from Intertwining Logistic map. To enhance the security further, final ciphertext is obtained after substituting all elements with Hussain's substitution box. Experimental and statistical results confirm the strength of the anticipated scheme.

However, this constraint has limited the fractal encoder to exploit the self-similarity of the original image. In order to overcome the shortcoming, a novel scheme using same sized range and domain blocks is proposed in the letter. With an ever increase usage of multi-media content, such audio, image and video across networks, imagecompression and security of content has become almost a need to users who would want to transmit over such networks. Transmitting over such networks, especially with images, may result in some information in an image being lost. For that reason good and efficient encryption methods are needed to store and transmit images while preserving the best imaginable quality features enhanced with security. This paper suggests or develops an efficient imagecompression-encryption scheme based on Discrete wavelet decomposition, SPIHT and Qi hyper-chaos. Pseudo-random numbers generated from Qi hyper chaos and which are in line with the Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) were used in this study. The random numbers were used to change the image characteristics and in essence to hide the visual information related to image. To achieve the selective compression-encryption, the 2-D wavelet transform was used to decompose the image into details and approximation components, Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Tree compression method was used to compress the decomposed LL2 image before being encrypted with the bits stream key generated from the Qi hyper-chaos using exclusive or operation. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme is good for data compression and encryption.

For telecommunication systems, various compression and encryption techniques are proposed to satisfy a fast and secure transmission. However these two techniques have been studied separately. In this paper we propose a method combining encryption and compression based on Independent Component Analysis (ICA) and Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT). For encryption, target images are covered with an insignificant image to hide them and their mixtures to be transmitted are obtained. The receiver reconstructs the original images applying some ICA algorithm to the mixed images. In compression process, using DCT and simple low pass filter, the size of transmission can be reduced. Throughout several computer simulations, the performance of the proposed method is confirmed.
