Bit-level plane image encryption based on coupled map lattice with time-varying delay

Most of the existing image encryption algorithms had two basic properties: confusion and diffusion in a pixel-level plane based on various chaotic systems. Actually, permutation in a pixel-level plane could not change the statistical characteristics of an image, and many of the existing color image encryption schemes utilized the same method to encrypt R, G and B components, which means that the three color components of a color image are processed three times independently. Additionally, dynamical performance of a single chaotic system degrades greatly with finite precisions in computer simulations. In this paper, a novel coupled map lattice with time-varying delay therefore is applied in color images bit-level plane encryption to solve the above issues. Spatiotemporal chaotic system with both much longer period in digitalization and much excellent performances in cryptography is recommended. Time-varying delay embedded in coupled map lattice enhances dynamical behaviors of the system. Bit-level plane image encryption algorithm has greatly reduced the statistical characteristics of an image through the scrambling processing. The R, G and B components cross and mix with one another, which reduces the correlation among the three components. Finally, simulations are carried out and all the experimental results illustrate that the proposed image encryption algorithm is highly secure, and at the same time, also demonstrates superior performance.

Quality Assessment of Perceptual Crosstalk on Two-View Auto-Stereoscopic Displays

Crosstalk is one of the most severe factors affecting the perceived quality of stereoscopic 3D images. It arises from a leakage of light intensity between multiple views, as in auto-stereoscopic displays. Well-known determinants of crosstalk include the co-location contrast and disparity of the left and right images, which have been dealt with in prior studies. However, when a natural stereo image that contains complex naturalistic spatial characteristics is viewed on an auto-stereoscopic display, other factors may also play an important role in the perception of crosstalk. Here, we describe a new way of predicting the perceived severity of crosstalk, which we call the Binocular Perceptual Crosstalk Predictor (BPCP). BPCP uses measurements of three complementary 3D image properties (texture, structural duplication, and binocular summation) in combination with two well-known factors (co-location contrast and disparity) to make predictions of crosstalk on two-view auto-stereoscopic displays. The new BPCP model includes two masking algorithms and a binocular pooling method. We explore a new masking phenomenon that we call duplicated structure masking, which arises from structural correlations between the original and distorted objects. We also utilize an advanced binocular summation model to develop a binocular pooling algorithm. Our experimental results indicate that BPCP achieves high correlations against subjective test results, improving upon those delivered by previous crosstalk prediction models.

FIMTrack: An open source tracking and locomotion analysis software for small animals

Imaging and analyzing the locomotion behavior of small animals such as Drosophila larvae or C. elegans worms has become an integral subject of biological research. In the past we have introduced FIM, a novel imaging system feasible to extract high contrast images. This system in combination with the associated tracking software FIMTrack is already used by many groups all over the world. However, so far there has not been an in-depth discussion of the technical aspects. Here we elaborate on the implementation details of FIMTrack and give an in-depth explanation of the used algorithms. Among others, the software offers several tracking strategies to cover a wide range of different model organisms, locomotion types, and camera properties. Furthermore, the software facilitates stimuli-based analysis in combination with built-in manual tracking and correction functionalities. All features are integrated in an easy-to-use graphical user interface. To demonstrate the potential of FIMTrack we provide an evaluation of its accuracy using manually labeled data. Thinning of fingerprint ridges plays a vital role in fingerprint identification systems as it simplifies the subsequent processing steps like fingerprint classification and feature extraction. In this paper, we analyze some of the parallel thinning algorithms and have proposed a methodology for skeletonization of fingerprint ridges directly on gray scale images as significant amount of information and features are lost during the binarization process. This algorithm is based on conditionally eroding the gray level ridges iteratively until a one pixel thick ridge is obtained. Refinement procedures have also been proposed to improve the quality of ridge skeleton. Experiments conducted on sample fingerprint images collected using an optical fingerprint Reader exhibit desirable features of the proposed approach.

Color is a powerful feature for image analysis but it is usually not used in image classification schemes. We propose a method to combine fuzzy color information with the result obtained from a One-Versus-All classifier (OVA) trained with Bag-of-features. This method consists in weighting the outputs of the OVA classifier based on the distances between the new image to be classified and the classes. Experimental results show that our approach improves OVA classifier performance.

This paper presents a camera orientation estimation method based on 3-line RANSAC using motion vector in a driving straight ahead vehicle. The proposed method consists of three steps: i) motion vector and z-axis vanishing point estimation using feature extraction and matching, ii) line detection and classification using 3-line RANSAC algorithm, and iii) camera orientation estimation with vanishing points using classified lines. The experimental result shows proposed method effectively estimate camera orientation parameter. Therefore, the proposed method can be applied in vehicle systems for automatic driving assistance system.

The digital image watermarking technology is widely used to protect intellectual property and to authenticate digital contents in the network environment. The aim of the paper is to invoke the improved Laplacian Pyramid transform to develop a new image watermarking scheme. Specifically, the host image is decomposed and reconstructed by using the improved Laplacian Pyramid transform. Then, the mid frequency subband data with the appropriate level and strength factor are chosen to embed the watermark. Finally, we conduct experiments to investigate the invisibility and robustness of the proposed algorithm. To measure the invisibility and the robustness of the algorithms, we use the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and normalized correlation (NC) as performance metrics. Experimental results demonstrate that invisibility and robustness are guaranteed. The proposed algorithm outperforms one based on curvelets for the lossy JPEG compression attack in terms of invisibility and robustness. © 2017 IEEE.

The paper deals with a machine vision for a recognition and identification of manufactured parts. The inspection line has been constructed. Stepper motors, direct current motors and electromagnetic coils have been used as actuators. Printed circuit boards have been designed and made for a power supplying and signal level conversion. A feedback is acquired by two-position switches. For the practical realization, various construction components have been used, for example buffers for objects prepared for the inspection and inspected objects, manipulation arms and manipulation platform. The main control unit is a compact programmable logical controller, which controls hardware parts during the inspection cycle. The image capturing has been done with a common web camera. algorithms for the image processing has been programmed in MATLAB Simulink. Data between the control system and the image processing system are exchanged via a mutual communication protocol.

Large amount of data is one of the most obvious features in satellite based remote sensing systems, which is also a burden for data processing and transmission. The theory of compressive sensing(CS) has been proposed for almost a decade, and massive experiments show that CS has favorable performance in data compression and recovery, so we apply CS theory to remote sensing images acquisition. In CS, the construction of classical sensing matrix for all sparse signals has to satisfy the Restricted Isometry Property (RIP) strictly, which limits applying CS in practical in image compression. While for remote sensing images, we know some inherent characteristics such as non-negative, smoothness and etc.. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to present a novel measurement matrix that breaks RIP. The new sensing matrix consists of two parts: the standard Nyquist sampling matrix for thumbnails and the conventional CS sampling matrix. Since most of sun-synchronous based satellites fly around the earth 90 minutes and the revisit cycle is also short, lots of previously captured remote sensing images of the same place are available in advance. This drives us to reconstruct remote sensing images through a deep learning approach with those measurements from the new framework. Therefore, we propose a novel deep convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture which takes in undersampsing measurements as input and outputs an intermediate reconstruction image. It is well known that the training procedure to the network costs long time, luckily, the training step can be done only once, which makes the approach attractive for a host of sparse recovery problems.

Context. Planetary systems hold the imprint of the formation and of the evolution of planets especially at young ages, and in particular at the stage when the gas has dissipated leaving mostly secondary dust grains. The dynamical perturbation of planets in the dust distribution can be revealed with high-contrast imaging in a variety of structures. Aims. SPHERE, the high-contrast imaging device installed at the VLT, was designed to search for young giant planets in long period, but is also able to resolve fine details of planetary systems at the scale of astronomical units in the scattered-light regime. As a young and nearby star, NZ Lup was observed in the course of the SPHERE survey. A debris disk had been formerly identified with HST/NICMOS. Methods. We observed this system in the near-infrared with the camera in narrow and broad band filters and with the integral field spectrograph. High contrasts are achieved by the mean of pupil tracking combined with angular differential imaging algorithms. Results. The high angular resolution provided by SPHERE allows us to reveal a new feature in the disk which is interpreted as a superimposition of two belts of planetesimals located at stellocentric distances of similar to 85 and similar to 115 au, and with a mutual inclination of about 5 degrees. Despite the very high inclination of the disk with respect to the line of sight, we conclude that the presence of a gap, that is, a void in the dust distribution between the belts, is likely. Conclusions. We discuss the implication of the existence of two belts and their relative inclination with respect to the presence of planets.
