In digital image processing various filters are provided to enhance the quality of image. Visibility of some parts in images are enhanced while suppressing the information in some parts of it. Fei Kou et al had found that L 0 norm is a useful mathematical formula to enhance the quality of the image by amplifying the edges present in the detail layer. However in this the problem of suppressing the desired information is not taken into account. In this letter, we are presenting L 0 norm and ant colony optimisation based filter which not only enhance the quality of the image but also suppress the unwanted wrinkles from the human faces, thus using the image enhancement algorithm from both perspective i.e. to enhance the quality of the detail layer as well as to suppress the unwanted information. Simulation results shows that the signal quality is improved and mean square error is considerably reduced using this approach. Moreover histogram equalisation of the image also get improved.

The exponentially enlarging usability and mushrooming features in the portable hand-held devices such as cellphone appeal for the highly energy-efficient designs as the user cannot tolerate power famished devices rather can manage with tiny degraded quality. The multimedia applications such as image/video processing are compute-intensive and require efficient designs which can be achieved by approximate designs with the feeble accord in accuracy. As multiplication is the most frequently used and highly energy-consuming arithmetic operation, in this paper, a low power approximate multiplier architecture (AMA) is proposed that significantly improves the design metrics. We evaluate the proposed AMA with various quality metrics and design an AMA embedded Gaussian smoothing filter (GSF). The simulation results show that AMA reduces 81.5% power consumption over accurate and 19.17% energy over the well-known approximate multiplier architecture. Further, the AMA embedded GSF reduces 6.2% area and 7.53% power consumption over the best known approximate multiplier embedded GSF.

New technologies in lighting enable the design of illumination systems that autonomously meet the needs of occupants. In recent years, lighting design for both commercial and residential spaces has advanced beyond task performance, to a broader range of occupant needs including economic, energy and environmental constraints, architectural integration, human health, productivity, interpersonal communication, and aesthetic quality. Such systems require distributed sensing and control systems with sensory feedback to detect the lighting conditions in the space. Occupancy sensing and activity recognition are core components of this distributed sensor-based control system, and multisensor fusion of integrated sensors is viewed as a key attribute. This paper describes an expanded view of multisensor technologies, signal processing and pattern recognition algorithms that are being developed and evaluated for occupancy detection and activity recognition. This paper presents a multisensor testbed system that incorporates a sparse array of time-of-flight range sensors with pattern recognition algorithms for geometric form and motion detection of human occupants. Three levels of analysis are implemented: (1) Occupant detection and tracking, (2) Occupant pose classification (sitting, standing, and walking), (3) Occupant activity sequence recognition. These algorithms are dependent on statistical training of human pose and motion and implemented with a Bayesian formulation for detection, classification, and recognition. Evaluation of resulting performance in the testbed conference room demonstrates pose and activity recognition accuracy of greater than 97% for single occupants.

This paper presents an approach for the surface inspection of wire-type objects. The research aims to detect scratch defect of a wire rod. Scratch defect is caused by many reasons such as poor quality of raw material or malfunction of rolling process. The defects are very difficult to detect accurately due to the scale-covered background and uneven illumination. The inspection system is based on vision technology. image processing algorithms are applied for detecting scratch defects of wire rod. The detection algorithm is mainly divided into three steps. First, use wavelet transform to have texture analysis. In order to obtain more details, we take the approximation subimage at resolution level one as source image. Then, explain the Fast Line Segment Detector method and the detected results are illustrated using real defects from steel wire rods. But the complex backgrounds in images of wire rods inevitably result in false positive and false negative defects. Finally, apply postprocessing based on detection results. Compared with the classical methods, the results show that the applied algorithms have a good performance on scratch defect detection of wire rod. Moreover, it has an effective execution time proportional to the number of pixels in the image.

This paper presents a new algorithm for the detection and classification of real-time road traffic signs in the video. Our system is able to detect and classify triangular, circular, and octagonal signs of red and blue colors. The proposed system operates into two processing steps: (1) detection and (2) classification road signs. The system has detected candidate regions as Maximally Stable Extremal Regions (MSERs) in HSV color space with available robustness to variations in lighting conditions, especially red and blue. The detected candidate regions were then classified as method template matching, such as circular, octagonal, and triangular shapes. The proposed system is operating under a range of weather conditions and recognizes all classes of road traffic sign database. Results show a high success rate. In fact, the system maintains high performance for detection and classification steps whose F-measure are set to 0.95 and 0.92 respectively. We conclude, from these results, that the proposed system is invariant to rotation, translation, scale, even to partial occlusions. Moreover, results prove that the system is suitable and reliable for real-time processing.

Document image Analysis (DIA) systems become ever more advanced, but also more complex -- computationally, and logically. This increases the difficulty of integrating existing state-of-the-art approaches into new research or into practical workflows. The current approach to sharing software is publishing source code -- leaving the burden to the integrator -- or creating a Software Development Kit (SDK) which is often restricted to one programming language. We present DIVAServices a framework for sharing and accessing DIA methods within the research community and beyond. Using a RESTful web service architecture we provide access to the methods, leading to only one system on which the binaries of methods need to be maintained. All it takes for a developer to use an algorithm is a simple HTTP request with the image data and parameters for the method and they will receive the computed results in a format that allows for seamless integration into any kind of workflow or for further processing. Furthermore, DIVAServices is open-source, enabling other research groups or libraries to host their own instance in their environment. Using this framework, future DIA systems can be built on the shoulders of well tested algorithms, accessible to everyone.

In this paper a novel super-resolution wavefront extraction algorithm is introduced that merges the advantages of the efficiency correlation techniques based on [1] and super-resolution ability of DCM techniques [2]. The introduced ADCM algorithm is based on the correlation method DCM, but in contrast this algorithm uses a set of weighted differently shifted reference pulses. Due to the clustering of wavefronts the computational effort of the wavefront extraction is optimized. In the herein used set-up a low-cost, single chip radar operating from 57 GHz to 64 GHz is applied. The low-cost and low-weight radar is ideal for autonomous security robots where real-time conditions are necessary.

A fully-automatic ultrasound image processing system that can determine the needle entry site for epidural anesthesia (EA) in real time is presented in this paper. Neither the knowledge of anesthetists nor additional hardware is required to operate the system, which firstly directs the anesthetists to reach the desired insertion region in the longitudinal view, i.e., lumbar level L3-L4, and then locates the ideal puncture site by instructing the anesthetists to rotate and slightly adjust the position of ultrasound probe. In order to implement these functions, modules including image processing, panorama stitching, feature extraction/selection, template matching and support vector machine (SVM) classification are incorporated in this system. Additionally, a user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI), which displays the processing results and guides anesthetists intuitively, is further designed to conceal the intricacy of algorithms. Feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed system has been evaluated through a set of realtime tests on 53 volunteers from a local hospital.

The pulse wave signal contains a variety of noises and has strong nonlinear and non-stationary. According to the previous wavelet transformation method, this paper proposes a PPG signal de-noising algorithm based on dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DTCWT) and morphological filtering. With the advantage of simple construction, clear mathematical implications and low computational complexity, this method overcomes the shift sensitive and the frequency aliasing in the discrete wavelet transform. The simulation results show that this algorithm could remove the power line interference and EMG interference, and the quantitative index of SNR and mean square error is superior to the traditional threshold de-noising algorithm. Therefore, the DTCWT and morphological filtering de-noising algorithm would obtain a clear pulse wave signal.

image classification is one of the most multifaceted disciplines in image processing. There are quite a few approaches to categorize images and they offer good classification outcome but they not be up to snuff to provide acceptable classification upshots when the image comprises blurry content. The two chief techniques for image classification are supervised and unsupervised classification. Mutually each possess its own pros and cons. The foremost intent of literature survey is to present a concise outline about some of most widespread image classification schemes and comparison between them. At this point in a survey on diverse classification practices for images and moreover its application for diagnosis of scores of diseases is provided. A few of the unsurpassed processes for classification comprise Artificial Neural Network, Support Vector Machine, and Decision Tree. Their characteristics, upshots and certain vital issues have been judged against each other in order to ascertain the effectual algorithm. To conclude it has been shown that the proposed system Hybrid RGSA and Support Vector Machine Framework is the paramount one to classify images competently.
