With rapid development in mobile devices with high quality image and video processing capabilities, it is desirable or necessary to implement steganography technology within such devices in some applications such as source authentication. In this paper, we propose a method of implementing information hiding within a video with less processing time and memory requirement. The message to be secretly communicated is hidden in the video by modifying blocks of Discrete Wavelet Transform coefficients of feature regions. We choose corners as specific features. The localizable capability of both corner detection algorithm and the Discrete Wavelet Transform makes it possible for the entire embedding method to be localized. This makes the entire process of steganography computationally faster and memory efficient. Our simulations show that the proposed method has a processing time that is up to 2.6 times more efficient, in average, than other traditional methods without incurring memory overhead.

Texture synthesis is a fast growing technique in image processing, and has been widely used in real time processes. During this process a texture is taken as sample input and various methods and techniques are applied to synthesis that texture to produce a large synthesized texture with user defined size and similar texture characteristics. Methods and techniques used are tiling and synthesis based on patches, pixels and exemplar. Quality of the synthesized texture and synthesis time is one of the major concerns during the process. A survey is taken on various techniques used to improve the quality and synthesis time of the texture.

Unauthorized and unregistered sea going fishing vessels are being used for criminal activities in the coastal areas. The issue of piracy against merchant ships using illegal fishing vessels poses a significant threat to world shipping. Unfortunately counter piracy efforts and maritime security of our own and other nation enforcement often affects the innocent fishermen who conduct the trans-border fishing. Hence a proper vessel monitoring system is required to protect the maritime security without tampering the routine fishing activity of the sea going fishermen. This paper discusses about the feasibility of a system for the detection of registered marine fishing vessels comparing the satellite images and GPRS signal information. A review on various algorithms for identifying marine boats from satellite images is also conducted in this paper.

Tug-of-war lacunarity-A novel approach for estimating lacunarity

Modern instrumentation provides us with massive repositories of digital images that will likely only increase in the future. Therefore, it has become increasingly important to automatize the analysis of digital images, e.g., with methods from pattern recognition. These methods aim to quantify the visual appearance of captured textures with quantitative measures. As such, lacunarity is a useful multi-scale measure of texture's heterogeneity but demands high computational efforts. Here we investigate a novel approach based on the tug-of-war algorithm, which estimates lacunarity in a single pass over the image. We computed lacunarity for theoretical and real world sample images, and found that the investigated approach is able to estimate lacunarity with low uncertainties. We conclude that the proposed method combines low computational efforts with high accuracy, and that its application may have utility in the analysis of high-resolution images. (C) 2016 Author(s).

Dorsal hand recognition is a trending topic in biometrics and human computer interactive systems. The characteristic and unique shape of the dorsal side of users’ hands could be identified and discriminated for continuous authentication or could be tracked for second security option as a keyboard passwords. Therefore we propose a novel recognition system that deals with users’ hands on the keyboard using adaptive YCbCr color space. The images are extracted from a video recorded by a camera mounted on the monitor and the Cb and the Cr color intervals of the dorsal hands are identified and stored. In contrast with the common algorithms that deal with the static interval, we propose an adaptive system which initially identifies the Cb and Cr values of the users’ hands and subsequently recognize the dorsal hands throughout the frames of the video. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.

Aerial reconnaissance continues to be a vital tool for landscape-oriented archaeological research. Although a variety of remote sensing platforms operate within the earth's atmosphere, the majority of aerial archaeological information is still derived from oblique photographs collected during observer-directed reconnaissance flights, a prospection approach which has dominated archaeological aerial survey for the past century. The resulting highly biased imagery is generally catalogued in sub-optimal (spatial) databases, if at all, after which a small selection of images is orthorectified and interpreted. For decades, this has been the standard approach. Although many innovations, including digital cameras, inertial units, photogrammetry and computer vision algorithms, geographic(al) information systems and computing power have emerged, their potential has not yet been fully exploited in order to re-invent and highly optimise this crucial branch of landscape archaeology. The authors argue that a fundamental change is needed to transform the way aerial archaeologists approach data acquisition and image processing. By addressing the very core concepts of geographically biased aerial archaeological photographs and proposing new imaging technologies, data handling methods and processing procedures, this paper gives a personal opinion on how the methodological components of aerial archaeology, and specifically aerial archaeological photography, should evolve during the next decade if developing a more reliable record of our past is to be our central aim. In this paper, a possible practical solution is illustrated by outlining a turnkey aerial prospection system for total coverage survey together with a semi-automated back-end pipeline that takes care of photograph correction and image enhancement as well as the management and interpretative mapping of the resulting data products. In this way, the proposed system addresses one of many bias issues in archaeological research

In this paper, a single trial classification is introduced for the Electroencephalography (EEG) signals evoked by RGB colors. The effectiveness of a single trial classification is an important step towards online classification of EEG signals. Signals are analyzed by Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) technique, and the last decomposition is used in the feature extraction stage. We investigate different feature extraction methods in order to find out the best method which can be used with colors dataset. These methods are: Event-Related Spectral Perturbations (ERSP), Target mean, AutoRegressive and EMD residual. In addition, we propose a new feature selection algorithm, which focuses on selecting the best features by studying the behavior of EEG components that appear due to the introduced color. We introduced a comparison between the classification results of using all extracted features, the results of using the selected features by the proposed algorithm and the results of using the selected features by recursive feature elimination algorithm, which is used by similar study. The proposed algorithm is proved with all the investigated feature extraction methods as the classification accuracies are increased. Support Vector Machine (SVM) is used in the classification process. We found that the execution time of using color's stimulus is only 0.23s, which is much less than the time which was required by any other stimulus such as imagery and spelling word presented in the previous researches. The best feature extraction method that gives the highest classification accuracy and can be used with real time BCI systems are Target Mean and EMD residual, as their accuracies are high and the computation time is very low.

This paper presents an approach for constructing high quality Digital Elevation Maps (DEMs) from dense stereo data. As opposed to classical DEM creation algorithms, the proposed solution uses the sensor models of the stereovision sensor to correct the raw data. The direct and inverse sensor models are found from experiments. The algorithm decomposes the 2D cells containing vertical objects or object boundaries in order to model the objects more precisely. The approach distinguishes between 2 types of cells: cells containing horizontal and vertical objects. For the vertical object cells, connected components in the histogram of heights are found while in the horizontal object cells, the most representative height is determined using a mode-seeking approach similar to mean shift. The 3D reconstructed points are assigned to the cells around it by considering the probability of correspondence based on the 2D Gaussian component of the direct sensor model. In order to eliminate the noise, a similarity measure is computed between each 3D point and cell based on the calculated DEM cell descriptor and is discarded if the similarity score is smaller than a predefined threshold. The algorithm is implemented on the GPU in order to achieve a real-time execution speed and it is evaluated extensively in comparison with other DEM creation algorithms using the latest KITTI stereo benchmark data. The obtained DEM is denser, more accurate and the object boundaries are modeled more precisely.

Compare with the infra-ray light gaze tracking systems, the visible light gaze tracking (VLGT) design provides new applications to consumer electronics. However, the VLGT suffers from the technical difficulties of accommodating various illumination conditions and unstable image features. These system design issues lead to the problem of low accuracy in estimating iris center location and high computational complexity. Leveraging from our previous work, we further improve the algorithm of ellipse matching for the iris region and the mapping function, whereas the average angular errors are less than 0.45° for both horizontal and vertical directions.

Many parking garages and open parking spaces today are already equipped with surveillance cameras to increase the security of pedestrians or to record potentially illegal actions. An additional use case for such multi-camera surveillance systems is the automatic extraction of 3D-positions of objects and pedestrians. The safety of autonomous vehicles could benefit from this information in cases where the on-board sensors might be unable to detect potentially dangerous situations due to occlusion. Since the used cameras are installed statically, change detection is often employed as the first operation and all subsequent processing steps rely on its quality. Different scenarios impose specific challenges to the respective algorithms. In this paper we present an efficient algorithm for change detection which is tailored to the difficulties arising in an indoor surveillance scenario and demonstrate its applicability by adapting an existing pipeline and improving overall performance.
